  1. All about that arcade and theater before the first renovation. Good times there in the 90s.
  2. Now that is a kick to the gut. The Feagler report was something my parents and I watched together weekly for years. Cleveland's Royko.
  3. Gotta give Brooks Brothers kudos. They really are committed after all these... transitioning years.
  4. Reddit is reporting layoffs at American Greerings today: "My friends are in for a rough day at American Greetings as the new owners sent everyone an email this morning explaining how some of them will be laid off today. Individuals are being called into private meetings and then shortly later escorted out the door. At least a few people have taken part in that parade already. Seems like a weird day of the week to do such a thing and also a fairly humiliating way to do it..."
  5. This whole thing is so laughable. It sucks that buses run through Superior, but that battle was fought, lost, and now the mayor's OBVIOUS retaliation are ugly barricades or ludicrously expensive bollards. Spend that money on security in the area instead Frank. It gets way too thorny around the casino, people throw their shit everywhere (do we NOT have littering laws?), and the place is like a holiday inn for homeless/panhandlers at night.
  6. It's as much a burger and fries place as Jeni's is just an ice cream shop. Shake Shacks usually have a charm to them, with higher quality meat (and veggie options), really good shakes, higher caliber clientele and customer service alike, the workers paid quite a bit more than generic fast food places, some unique sauces i.e. Shake Sauce. The place just has a good vibe.

I read Stephen King's dull, rushed, forgettable Bill Hodges trilogy and now, halfway through the book, I see one of the major characters is also a protagonist in the Outsider. Damnit!! The mildly engaging book took a turn for the boring almost the moment the character was re-introduced. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME PEOPLE. Better to read the Prey series which does a good job reinventing itself and introducing new major characters.
  8. I didn't mean to come across as hating west siders, just making the point that they will likely be receiving benefits alone, and their time savings isn't even that significant. People and businesses just aren't going to flock to that area, which begs the question why are we spending $350 million in the first place.
  9. I do. It's a waste of money. An utter waste. Beautified roads that bisect ghettos so often do nothing and have almost never benefited the local and regional communities. West siders will shave off a few minutes from university circle at best

    Well, all righty then!
  11. I don't get it. The culture of Cleveland is African American (what does that even mean?) and because of that, we need to be cautious of introducing new people with different cultures? Diversity is key to a city's momentum and future, and its encouragement shouldn't be limited to predominantly white areas. Frankly, the city's residents as a whole are just not cutting it on their own. Cleveland desperately needs an infusion of new people: Asians, Indians, African nationals, Arabs, Latinos, gays, artists, hipsters, educated Millenials, etc. Gift them city-owned/bank-owned houses, vacant lots, streets, neighborhoods, and so on.
  12. I think it is more than just poor leadership. There just seems to be a stigma that hasn't been shaken. All that brain drain from suburban schools - 10 percent return from college/grad school? 20? - along with aging populations along with far too many shitty neighborhoods just overwhelm any signs of progress. I really don't know the answer save for gifting entire neighborhoods to non criminal refugees and legal/illegal immigrants. It's just really sad overall.
  13. What a downer about Cleveland's population loss. Nothing seems to be working. Not really. But Columbus...wow. That's something else.
  14. It's a bit tense immediately outside the casino at night.
  15. A friend of mine used to babysit and housewatch her place in Cleveland or Shaker Heights, and they got along well. ...that's all I got.
  16. There really is something exciting about census releases; hard to explain why, but I'm absolutely fascinated by everything to do with population growth, stagnation, depletion, demographic changes, etc.
  17. Good god I love supertalls.
  18. Regarding the traffic signal fiasco, wasn't there some higher-up business or Cleveland Clinic leader(s) preventing the technology from being implemented. I could have sworn I heard something to that effect.
  19. I forgot about traffic signal priority. Still waiting on that fantasy.
  20. Isn't there something funky about that hospital, like they won't accept any insurance?
  21. My understanding is Cleveland got a particularly egregious deal with the new deal, with a host of shenanigans perpetuated by the NFL, Fred Nance, Michael White, and others. That one reporter - was it for the CleveScene? PD? - had some excellent write-ups on the funding, leasing, parking, merchandising, and other arrangements in which the city got majorly F-D compared to other cities in like situations.
  22. Morale can be theoretically monetized so yes, I'd say team performance has some relevance.

What is with Frank and dirt bike riders. Is it because he has that "troubled" nephew who's into the scene?
  24. If they're not behind prison bars by then, Dee and her husband can go pay for a f'ing stadium on their own if they want something shiny and with a roof. The city got screwed by the prior stadium deal in so many ways that it's laughable and insulting to even approach this topic at this point, especially with how this expansion team has performed.
