Blade Runner 2049 was REALLY good, and now I'm interested in seeing the original. An almost 3 hour film that doesn't feel anywhere that long, even with some slow scenes.
  4. Ahhhhhh. Feels right! Thanks ColDayMan.

There was a pretty good storyline about three or four years ago between Melissa/Muscular Joe and Teresa/Fat Joe (Muscular Joe and Teresa are siblings). Fake or not, lightly scripted or improvised, clearly there was massive, legit venom between the two families, and it made for fun TV. I remember the feud capping off where the four went to a hotel to bond... and the two Joes started fighting because Muscular Joe is temperamental while Fat Joe is a drunk and responsible for both him and his wife going to prison for fraud, among other charges. Teresa ran outside as the fight broke out (guess she needed some cardio), and Melissa tried to break up the fight. Kudos to her, and to hell with her sister-in-law and her criminal husband. Better than golf!
  6. Just a few interesting projects and commentary: https://chicago.curbed.com/2017/10/6/16435710/old-post-office-development-landmark-tax-incentive In a perfect world, this would be a massive indoor amusement park, water park, or casino. That said, it's going to be one hell of a success story after the renovation, with or without Amazon. The location is incredible (right by the Metra and Amtrack at Union station, the expressway, the blue line and the brown line), and it has a very visible, dominating prescense. http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/local/breaking/ct-michael-reese-redevelopment-met-0603-20170602-story.html This project, again whether it's for another Amazon headquarters or not, can both redefine the neighborhood. Bronzeville has unbelievable potential and could effectively connect downtown/south loop to Kenwood/Hyde Park. A fifty+ block "safe" stretch of the Loop going south to the southern edge of Hyde Park would really do much for the Southside's reputation as a whole. This one project could be a significant piece in changing the narrative. http://skyrisecities.com/forum/threads/chicago-wolf-point-290m-66s-magellan-development-pelli-clarke-pelli.22087/page-4 The second of three glass towers (the first was already built) downtown where the river begins going north-south. Once all three buildings are complete, this area will be absolutely beautiful and the skyline will alter. https://chicago.curbed.com/2017/3/13/14907004/merchandise-mart-chicago-lighting-public-art I don't know how realistic this is, but my god would it be fun. I'm surprised more buildings haven't had those kinds of projections; it would make for a really fun evening and a huge draw for locals and tourists. Additionally, it would rejuvenate the last block of the recently rebuilt Riverwalk where the city ran out of money, and it looks like shit as a result. People would clamor all over that section to watch projections across the river at Merchandise Mart. And last but not least, https://www.timeout.com/chicago/blog/the-312-riverrun-project-will-install-elevated-paths-along-the-chicago-river-100517 Good lord... I can't wait to check this out!
  7. The Dairy Queen turned LoanMax and empty South Euclid Library mansion are particularly heartbreaking. And just thinking how much Greenview, Memorial and especially Brush have collapsed in the last twenty years. It's all such a shame.
  8. One ugly wall separating the parking lot from the businesses next door. Coffee Phix got slammed from all that construction, and things haven't improved since. I do like that strange standalone salon there; it's gotta be a front for something.
  9. Lol, and then the rest of the game happened

F, I'm eating entire tubs of hummus now for lunch (they're down to $2.50/each for both Sabra and Cedar at Marianos). The Sabra container is 10 servings, the Cedar container 20 servings; I can inhale the Sabra and finish most of the Cedar, just one of either per meal. Every day I've been doing this, and it keeps me filled all day and through the evening. I've also been frantically reading online how bad/good that is for you. Will I gain weight? Is this unhealthy? Very unhealthy? Nominally unhealthy? I'm just eating it plain with some hot sauce, no pita or veggies. Who the f gets obsessed with hummus anyhow???
  11. It was a day game today? ARGGGGGGG
  12. True. Annexing is at best a mirage. Thriving cities and those with steady population growth do so by becoming more attractive to residents and businesses, and vice versa, not by artificially expanding borders.
  13. Ahhhhh. 2.90, my new favorite number

Good god was getting from La Guardia to midtown Manhattan awful. A city with under 9 million people, obviously a much larger region, and a half a trillion+ GDP -- and shuttles to the Roosevelt subway are the only way out??? Cab drivers must be eating well. Also, seeing Manhattan was a shock for good reasons. Almost no panhandlers except for the occasional gutterpunk and homeless. No visible gangbangers or hoodrats from 79th down to Brooklyn past the bridge. No one screaming on cell phones or at their kids. Some but not too many obese/overweight people. Overall, no real tensions. And the biggest change of all - there were so many Asian people. At times they seemed the plurality, and I'm not including Chinatown/Little Italy. The subway was also a little underwhelming (every trip felt slow). And the garbage bags stacked in front of trendy and expensive stores was an amusing juxtaposition. Never take alleys for granted.
  15. The death of middle class America in one article.
  16. Hmm, interesting. I was misinformed. Thanks.
  17. All major cities have annexed nearby townships and villages; hell, Cleveland even had skirmishes with Ohio City due to the Columbus St bridge and fears of annexation (which happened 15-20 years later). Brooklyn wasn't part of NYC until 1898 (and that also wasn't a bloodless affair). Annexation is nothing new. Frankly I've never really bought that as a compelling argument to why there is population gain and loss. At best a nominal effect. Look at the prosperous cities with ongoing momentum; there are evident factors for their success, the least of which is their expanding boundaries.
  18. You guys are fighting over... airline flights? Man, pick your battles.
  19. Wait, the stats counted? How does that work if the game restarted? At least in a no-decision someone is eventually getting the win or loss, so it's a real game.
  20. Holy shit!!!!!!
  21. Even though the article abided by the rule that all positive articles must have at minimum several pot shots against Cleveland, this was overall a pleasant read: http://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/mlb/as-indians-stack-wins-in-record-streak-a-new-label-emerges-americas-team/ar-AArTQUM?li=BBnb7Kz As Indians stack wins in record streak, a new label emerges: America's Team
  22. She looks like she belongs there! Cranes are great for morale.
  23. Undeniably the Cy Young frontrunner!!!
  24. ^^^Plenty of cities have massive open space they could feasibly gift to Amazon. For example: http://www.chicagotribune.com/business/ct-62-downtown-acres-0512-biz-20160511-story.html It's just sitting there doing NOTHING. 62 vacant acres in Chicago's South Loop extending from Roosevelt to Chinatown.
