I gotta admit Dave, you definitely have a fun to read writing style.

Hah, whatever happened to that guy. I remember when he would respond to cleveland.com posters. Always a bad idea Kenny boy.

Yeah, I'm sure a bunch of us are also perennial drunk drivers and convicted embezzlers, No biggy, we all err. Why should we have moral standards for our city leader.

Johnson is just another Kwame Kilpatrick. And Reed is even worse since he doesn't seem to mind putting people's lives at risk with his drunk driving. Frankly both men deserve lives of scorn and ridcule, not viable mayorship candidacies. Frank at least appears to be a moral person. These other two scumbags could drown for all I care.

Chicago by address, but I'm in Cleveland about a week a month.

Just sort or a stream of consciousness rant. So much S**t happens daily on public transportation and it's unbelievably frustrating that anti-social characters have carte blanche to terorrize people in these confined spaces. Local, city, state, federal - any work for me.

There really needs to be a federalized/uniform code of conduct on all public transportation. Far too many people behave HORRIBLY time and time again without any real consequence. It probably isn't realistic to have a list similar to Do Not Fly, so the next solution is draconian penalties to those who abuse the system and frankly terrorize passengers with impunity. Threatening, harassing, outright fighting, antagonizing, panhandling, even playing loud music should be treated severely. Deputizing all drivers and qualified passengers is a start to enforcement. We don't permit this S**t on planes or airports, I don't understand why we've let this in trains and buses go on for so long.
  8. Same with NYSE. DOW about 50 points from intraday high. Good private payroll/job numbers.

I'm fascinated with American city developments in general and enjoy perusing sites like urbanohio.com, forum.skyscraperpage.com, and skyrisecities.com, in particular the photos sections. Google Earth/Google Maps Satellite are also enjoyable time-wasters. I think I found MayDay's sets somewhere in 06 or 07, and have been a fan of the site since.

My cousin lives in Euclid and has some really interesting stories to tell about her neighbors and overall life there. The most recent gem was that some teen thug was banging on her door and got several kicks in. My cousin has 6 guns in the house by doors and windows, all loaded, and she grabbed one (a 38, I think) and started yelling at him to get out. The kid ran away, she called the police, an officer arrived in 20 minutes (not horrible response time), and unbelievably he found the person quickly after and arrested the miscreant. A little later, the same officer was back at the house taking a report and checking her gun licenses, and all of the sudden there's another commotion at her door. It's an out-of-control woman screaming and threatening my cousin for having called the police. The officer orders her to leave, that she's trespassing and disturbing the peace, she won't listen and continues screaming how my cousin is a racist and her son is innocent, and the cop threatens to arrest her. And so the woman goes into the street and continues bellowing for a few minutes and making unintelligible threats before storming off. So that was Memorial Day for my cousin, who is also a vet. What a country...

The owner's name should be Receivership.
  14. My gut suspicion is that a commercial real estate crash, of which perhaps we're already in, will put a multi-year damper on the rally. It won't be as severe as the 2008 mortgage foreclosure crash, but if you look at all the accelerating list of empty storefronts and dead businesses nationwide, institutions that used to eat up a lot of real estate in malls and streets, you know something has to give.
  15. Amazon blazing to a 1000 pts. Time for a 7-for-1 stock split. Let the non-institutional investors have a little fun with it. You too Google. Since Apple's 2014 7-1 split and Netflix's 2015 7-1 split, both are up 53 and 63 percent, respectively.

^^It isn't just yuppies who use Uber but people who live in low income neighborhoods that now have an alternative means of getting from x to y. And what the heck do you mean by an army of yuppies? Ridiculous. Hell, I'd guess that the majority of Uber consumers are millennials who by and large are not making yuppy money, especially when compared to their massive debts. White collar business types, those who can write off the crazy fees, are still the main consumers for cabs, and a lot of those people are "yuppies." If anything, Uber is for the non-yuppy. And as for the company's low pay, well, it's up to the driver to decide if the numbers work for him/her. And if we start challenging Uber's low costs and insisting the company shuts down, shouldn't we do the same for all service-based jobs that tend to pay on a lower scale and can be seen as exploitive. Better to fix the problem from within and incorporate tipping into the software as opposed to shutting down a highly used and depended upon service.

Absolutely not. Uber/rideshare is a major part of people's lives, including those who live in areas with limited public transportation and prohibitive taxi fees. It has some growth issues and rates do need to increase reasonably, but I can't oversell how much a gamechanger rideshare is. Especially compared to loud, smelly, hostile and corrupt taxi agents who are only recently being called out for the unethical and anti-consumer business practices now that a viable industry has emerged. F**k taxis; God bless rideshare.
  18. Great topic. Regardless of a company including a 401k matching program or not, everyone should have a Roth IRA of which you can, and should, contribute up to $5500 annually. As for what to invest in, you don't get more undervalued than Netflix and Apple. My hunch is Chipotle will be returning to its 700pt'ish highs as well.
  19. Can't wait for the rumored expansion of the 606/Bloomington trail in Chicago. It's a more restrained version of the High line and not centralized downtown but still a pleasant amenity.
  20. Nothing says productivity like commute times, interoffice tensions, and employee relocation costs.

This whole conversation and controversy is bizarre. Frank pandering to a bunch of criminals does not better his chances of being mayor. Frank insulting that drunk idiot by calling him a pimp is beneath his usual polite and refined standards. It's all very strange.
  22. I vaguely vaguely vaguely remember there was something disingenuous about the award too.
  23. TBideon replied to a post in a topic in Ohio Politics
I think the mayor, really any political leader, should be held to a higher standard than the average Joe, which means those with proclivities for driving drunk and endangering countless people and those convicted of EXTORTION probably have no business representing a mid size American city.
  24. TBideon replied to a post in a topic in Ohio Politics
I criticize the hell out of Frank... but better him than any felon running. As it is, I'm not sure if a mayor is much more than a figurehead for a city, and while they can do a lot of damage, there are limits on how they can actually benefit a place. Better we have an ethical but somewhat ineffective person than parasites like Johnson and Reed. Cleveland doesn't need a Kilpatrick.
  25. To each his own, but I enjoyed Nashville when I visited and could see myself living there. The music scene, the parks, the affordable prices, the weather... it's a very appealing city Better barbeque than Texas too.
