  1. Does new construction really indicate population growth?
  2. Aren't 2015 estimates coming out in a few weeks?
  3. There is always huge turnover with restaurants in prominent and gritty areas alike. I hate to see the restaurant closing, but I wouldn't lose to much sleep over it unless I'm an investor.

Amazing game, series, and season. And that's the last I'll say about baseball for a few months. I am beyond burnt out.
  5. UGGGGG, I WANT TO MOVE THERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! A friend of mine just retired and bought a mansion along Lake Washington. Maybe I can be his kids' manny.
  6. Yesterday was exhausting, emotionally draining, and an overall letdown. What, does Davis have to steal home for us to score?? But to win at home, well, I think tomorrow I'll be jumping up and down again come evening.
  7. This is just crazy. Whatever the World Series outcome, MLB needs to investigate the umpires: https://twitter.com/bottlegate/status/792229684276625408
  8. Boy I sure am hyped for the Browns tomorrow???
  9. YEAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  10. http://www.seattletimes.com/business/real-estate/seattle-skyline-is-tops-in-construction-cranes-more-than-any-other-us-city/ Seattle skyline is tops in construction cranes — more than any other U.S. city One of America's finest cities.
  11. I feel like I'm reading a lot about West 130th lately, all for the wrong reasons.
  12. All right Hoynsie, debt paid http://www.cleveland.com/tribe/index.ssf/2016/10/baseball_writer_takes_chilly_d.html Baseball writer takes chilly dip after Cleveland Indians reach World Series
  13. If anyone needs a place to stay in Wrigleyville (specifically Addison/Southport), let me know and we'll figure something out. The best Indians bar is a mile south (Field House), but the Wrigleyville atmosphere is going be a lot of fun, with tons of Ohio transplants braving the Cubs fans.
  14. Well today is a lot more fun so far (Coco!! Merritt!!)
  15. The poor Sunny Patel execution (and his dad's reaction that's gone viral) has got to be the most heartbreaking thing I've seen...since Jim Brennan. The murderer should be euthanized.
  16. Friday cannot come soon enough!!! Sucks that Saturday's game is during the day. Playoffs should happen in the evening.

I don't understand the comment about "devastating federal taxes." First, everyone has to pay federal taxes (theoretically) so what difference does it make if you're a W2 or 1099. And second, on the top of my head, Uber/Lyft drivers can write off maintenance, standard mileage rate, cleaning and car washes, cell phone and wireless plan, car insurance, rental or leasing payments or depreciations if you own, etc. And I don't know how many bartenders can make $50-$60k if not higher (probably helps if you're an attractive girl in certain cities), but there's no way pizza drivers hit those numbers, even if they pocket all tips.

A friend of mine was hitting $1000- $1250 a week driving Lyft. It paid better than when he managed a bar, and with much more flexible hours
  19. I go to City Targets relatively often; they aren't really geared just for millenials but rather everyone i.e. tourists, white and blue collar workforces, inner city populations, etc. Now a Wal-Mart grocery store is more specific to the millenial market.
  20. I have been perusing yahoo.com/mlb all day and the Indians were not discussed. Not once. This is getting ridiculous. No exaggeration - go right now (3:24PM CST) and you won't see s-hit about the Indians. The headlines are currently: Dodgers announce Clayton Kershaw will start must-win Game 4 3h Tebow making his Arizona Fall League debut on Tuesday 4h Justin Verlander apologizes for ‘All Lives Matter’ tweet 12h Giants stay alive with thrilling walk-off win over Cubs 13h David Ortiz's fantastic career deserved a better ending TEBOW is a headline but the Indians sweep isn't? Unreal. I'm surprised Manziel isn't discussed either. And if you look at the left of the screen and scroll down, there are about 20 articles and hyperlinks (a combo of articles and advertising), and guess who isn't mentioned once.

I've been marathoning The New Girl. It's pretty charming fluff. I've also been watching (really listening) to the Morton Downey Show at work. Sort of a blend of Fox News and Jerry Springer - highly entertaining.
  22. http://www.chicagotribune.com/business/ct-englewood-starbucks-opening-0928-biz-20160927-story.html So this is an interesting investment. For those who don't know, Englewood is among the most dangerous neighborhoods in Chicago, if not country, and is as economically depressed and violent as you can imagine. So will this be a success or failure? Appropriate inside and parking lot security are key (we obviously don't want another Steelyard Wal-Mart). Adaptability is also essential (example: the University Heights Whole Foods had to close the Cedar Road doors to counteract liquor theft). There is a fantastic independent coffee shop nearby (Kusayana coffee), so good neighborhood-supported businesses can survive the area. It's kind of exciting (though to be frank, I'm awfully cynical). The area won't gentrify solely due to Whole Foods of course, but the word gets thrown out a lot here -- and I had to put this post somewhere :-o :-o :-o

South Park has already hit it out of the park this season. Unbelievable how good the show continues to be.
  24. You could make that exact same claim about dozens of cities that are (arguably) fiscally healthier and growing populations. Cleveland's issues include but certainly go beyond blaming local and state leaders and public transportation. Look at the population increases in the Carolinas and Texas; for the most part, their transit systems are more outdated than ours. What helps is good weather (I know it gets hot in Houston, but clearly that isn't an issue for the now 2+ million residents), a lack of legacy costs, outdated tax structures, and probably a lack of Rust Belt stigma as well. Just to be incredibly broad (and of course these areas have diverse economies), Texas has energy; Vegas has gambling and tourism; New York has finance and...well...really every industry. DC (I'm shocked the population has fallen) has government; LA has Hollywood and weather; San Francisco has Silicon Valley; Seattle and Denver have everything (big businesses, pot, mountains, low crime, a relaxed culture); Boston has great universities; Charlotte has banks; Chicago---is complicated (and losing population). Jobs are all that matter when we're talking about population growth. And really big companies (or government) who hire lots of people and ancillary employment make the most difference. For whatever reason, Cleveland lacks the former and the latter isn't enough to balance job losses.
