Cleveland: HealthLine / Euclid Corridor
They have impossible, highly stressed, low pay, and at times dangerous jobs; I'd cut them a lot of slack.

Chicago: Transit News
Early 2031. And I am very doubtful this thing kicks off even with initial funding locked in. There are far more impactful, potential, needed CTA and Metra projects; this one, IMO, is not one of those.

Brook Park: New Cleveland Browns Stadium
The survey results are irrelevant and won't lead to subsidies, which is the only issue that matters. A true, non-biased referendum on the financing of the stadium, highway, future maintenance, and revenue sharing is the only meaningful survey. I can't believe I wasted 90 seconds on this s**t yesterday. And the survey has been pulled. Better luck next time grifters.

The Future of America and Its Cities
Do you really think California is embarrassed about a lack of new construction? It has the 5th largest economy in the world, and there are booming smaller cities like Folsom, Vernon, Dublin, Nathrop, etc. I imagine they're seeing their share of smaller constructions. These days skyscrapers seem to be an enormous hassle, especially for legacy regions, so perhaps California's lack of construction is in itself forward thinking. Why build what you can't fill. Vancouver is a beautiful city, but a lot of those constructions are prompted by sketchy foreign investments and are very empty. Outside of Granville, much of downtown feels very sterile and empty when the sun goes down.

Cleveland: Downtown: Huntington Bank Field
Damn, Guardians are in Pittsburgh that weekend. I always like it when there are concurrent games downtown. First day of NBA playoffs, however, is that day, and the Cavs are certainly on their way to start the series at home. Should be a fun weekend!

Greater Cleveland RTA News & Discussion
I can understand not having a closer station but not even a path? That seems very short sighted and an obvious minor investment if this fantasy has a chance of taking off.

Brook Park: New Cleveland Browns Stadium
I think they're using the word "lease" to represent a guarantee the Browns would stay in Brookpark for 30 years.

Brook Park: New Cleveland Browns Stadium
Bibb and Ronayne need to lay out the facts, really financials, and gauge what the public wants. We already know they don't want this albatross. Maybe I'm wrong and Cleveland/County would be supportive, in which case we move forward and start determining subsidies and favorable contractual terms. Or begin winding down and evaluating stadium costs going forward. Whatever it takes to end this saga.

MLB: General News & Discussion
A shame Tampa can't play there for a few years until the stadium is built. Sure would be better for them and MLB than their playing at the Yankees spring training park. Absolutely bollocks that Tampa is paying tens of millions to fix up Tropicana when it's scheduled for demolition in 2028 anyway. Does that region have Saudi money to burn?

Brook Park: New Cleveland Browns Stadium
It's time Bibb and Ronayne have a joint press conference and talk to Cleveland/Cuyahoga taxpayers openly. They need to be blunt: the Browns are leaving downtown Cleveland and these lawsuits, pleas for continued play in Browns stadium, and Burke fantasies are a waste of time and resources. Both should lay out realistic financials - none of the bulls**t $1.2 billion subsidies either - and give Cleveland/Cuyahoga a binding referendum to decide if this privatized development should be subsidized. If a majority are willing to pay, then we begin discussing loans and bonds and commit to subsidy and Brookpark. And if it goes the other direction, then the matter is closed, even with the threat of interstate relocation. Whatever it takes to be DONE with this distraction.

Brook Park: New Cleveland Browns Stadium
"With that said, he did say some of those highway on and off ramps may have to be expanded to avoid a massive traffic jam. “There will be some changes. Would they be major changes? I wouldn’t call them major changes,” says Mayor Orcutt. Highway ramp rebuilds seem pretty significant to me, but what do I know. Maybe Orcutt is still a little foggy headed from those meetings with the Browns around 130th/Brookpark Rd.

Cleveland: Lakefront Development and News
A Browns stadium was never going to Burke, not with Jimmy owning the team and wanting to see and enjoy whatever is built. The guy doesn't want a dome in Burke when/if he's 85; he wants to see his investment while some good years remain - and that means 2029. Wherever it ends up. And yes the lakefront is dogs**t for the most part, but look at all the lame commentary - wah wah TBideon, you must be a carcentric fool with your terrible idea - when I suggested a hypothetical project grounded in reality to improve access to one of the very few lakefront attractions. I swear people would rather live in fantasy and pretend some pie-in-the-sky project will magically appear and reverse the city and region's trajectory rather than acknowledge reality and work with what we already have.

Brook Park: New Cleveland Browns Stadium
$1.2 billion is just the tip of the iceberg. It's multiples of that when you factor in reconfiguring the highway and ancillary costs, utilities, decades of stadium repairs and maintenance, Jimmy's cut for non-Browns events at the stadium, and lost revenue from cannibalized shows, housing, restaurants, and hotels. Well into the billions off the public teat. Not happening.

Cleveland: Lakefront Development and News
Because Wendy Park/Whiskey Island is incredibly underutilized and hard to find and access. The pedestrian bridge is wonderful, but if it were rebuilt to allow cars, that area would really take off as a full year destination. IMO.
-
Cleveland: Lakefront Development and News
Expanding the Wendy Park bridge for traffic would be huge.
-
Cleveland: Lakefront Development and News
Why is Burke's shutdown so important to lakefront development? There are plenty of underutilized lakefront parcels downtown, the neighborhoods, and east/west counties. Why not start small - like better access to Whiskey Island, which people actually use. Another 400+ acres of barren land along the lake would require mind-boggling costs for remediation, expanding Richmond Hts airport, fines, etc, never mind the utter lack of consumer, tenant and developer demand. We can't even fill most of the Flats despite that land being far more available and usable. All realistic lakefront development plans shouldn't even breathe the words Browns or Burke.

You're telling me Taylor Swift won't have a concert residency in Brookpark the next thirty years?

Whatcha Reading?
Jeremy Robert Johnson's "The Loop" is a fun read. I also started the "Three Body Problem" trilogy. I'm liking it better than the Netflix adaptation.

Ohio LGBTQ+ News
I don't know... you read about the evolution of anti-Jewish legislations in 1930s Germany, and there are some parallels to how conservatives are combating transgender people. Half the country wants them gone or dead, and much of the other half is ambivalent.

Ohio LGBTQ+ News
I'd say Rogan's obsession with trans women athletes really started the right wing's obsession and vilification. Pre-Covid, I don't recall MAGA giving a fart. Then Rogan started talking about it in early 2020, and the deplorables were off to the races. And I doubt the anti-trans movement relates to Russian involvement. Right wingers always need a scapegoat - women, minorities, Jews, Muslims, immigrants, homosexuals - and trans people are just the latest victims. Americans don't need Russia to be awful human beings.

Cleveland: Crime & Safety Discussion
Problem, among many others, is there are a lot of crime realities that will never be properly addressed due to racial implications, and so many cities are stuck in holding patterns silently hoping for demographic changes, which in turn would lower crime rates, improve schools, etc. What can you do.

Brook Park: New Cleveland Browns Stadium
Not a fan of DeWine, but I don't think it'll be that simple. Blue and purple/blue regional fundings will be reduced a great deal the next four years, and a lot of capital investments such as the brookpark fantasy are DOA. Better for State to save that money for anti-transgender investments and prosecuting women for suspect miscarriages, I suppose. Plus what's a few hundred million dollars from State even if Jimmy's cashiers check comes through? Pennies to the billions needed for this albatross.

Ohio LGBTQ+ News
A lot of the left has joined the anti-trans hate train as well unfortunately.

Cleveland: Cleveland-Cliffs
Not for the originally offered $55 a share, or $15 billion, that's for sure. Nucor may start bidding again if that amount falls, especially given Cleveland Cliffs 2024 struggles. Maybe even Steel Dynamics. They've done well this year and have a history of buying steel companies.
