  1. So I was partially right and wrong in my last post. Olivet Nazarene Univeristy of Illinois and Mount Vernon Nazarene University of Ohio are looking to find two additional partnering schools to create a new education center called GREENE UNIVERSITY. While the school would have two religious affiliations, they would be merely able to offer specialized courses and adult training at the institution. In the 1880's thru 1910 there was a sprawl of new colleges known as template universities that were constructed by various surrounding educational institutions. Once the school was up and running on its own, they would owe the founding colleges until their initial investments plus interest are paid off. Many of these colleges are still in existance and some have eventually evolved into specialty colleges and state branch campuses. GREENE UNIVERSITY is only in the early planning stages, and if they can secure the funding, the college could be purchased very soon! Both Nazarene schools could offer professorships and minor enrollment assistance to help get the college off the ground. They have been rumored to be talking with Kenyon College of Gambier Ohio, Marietta College and a few others to see if anyone will assist. The new college would have elected officials representing each founding college for the first term of the university which is 16 years. The first president would be selected from one of the founding colleges, etc.
  2. Mount Vernon Nazarene University (Mount Vernon Ohio) and Olivet Nazarene University (Kanakakee Ill) have been talking about purchasing the college to turn it into a new Nazarene school that will focus soley on education, business and science. They have been working on building a partnership between the two schools and a few other private schools in the state to work together to make it happen. GREENE NAZARENE UNIVERSITY
  3. yeah...across from the CH. Its a beautiful building and could really make money if someone would do something with it. See pictures of the interior by clicking on the attachment link.
  4. oh...and i forgot to tell you...ITS HAUNTED!!!!
  5. Most people may not even know the building exists. I had the opportunity to tour the Lima Metropolitan Building. Constructed in 1887 to house Metropolitan Bank during the oil rush, the building had hundreds of employees. Then after Met Bank merged with Elida Federal, they constructed a much larger and more efficient building at Elizabeth Street. The building was then converted into an office complex where photographers, doctors and lawyers called the building home. For a short while, it served as the "exploratory health" center for the hospital where they would try new techniques such as electro-shock therapy and other grusome medical procedures that were and still are illegal. Many people died and the place got a bad reputation. It then served as the headquarters for a few oil companies and lawyers until the mid 50's when majority of the building was abandoned. Today, it houses a few quaint shops on the main floor, but the upper four levels are dark and interesting. The owners want to sell the building to a developer who would turn the upstairs into offices and loft apartments. They have had great offers, but everyone wants to destroy the building or tear it down. They are waiting for someone to purchase it who will try to restore a majority of the building to its original look. Window replacements alone will be in the ballpark of 1.5 million. However they want to sell the building, and are only asking 200-400K for it. The only requirement is to restore it to as close as possible as it was built. I had the opportunity to take some pictures and wanted to share them with you.
  6. Mohican is truly one of Ohio's hidden gems. Most people dont even know it exists!
  7. I agree...Bobby Jindal for President 2012
  8. thanks for the welcome! I grew up during my high school years about 10 minutes from there, so i used to be a reasearh junkie about the area. Gann/Brinkhaven is so scenic and beautiful, its amazing how much of it still exists. If you ever get the chance, check out the Mowhawk Dam just north of Walhounding! Thats a beauty. We used to take picnic trips with the family and sit on the grated bridge overtop the river, it was so awesome!
  9. Where you found those railroad boosters there was once not one but two tracks in that area. Just 10 minutes south is the tiny village of Gann with about 200 current residents. The community used to have near 4,000 residents until the terrible 1913 flood. Records indicate that over five rail lines ran thru the village on a daily basis. If you walk around the community you can still find many sidewalks, house foundations and even in the hillsides there are multiple railroad tracks that have been abandoned. The one you found is the former CLA Line which ran from Coshocton to Loudonville. Brinkhaven is a gem in the whole area in the fact that there are so many unknown artifacts that still exist. I was exploring about 3 months ago and found the base of an old station that stood over 15 feet off the ground in the air. It had a rail-track that ran next to it and serviced the cross track at the top of Cut Hill.
