Jeff You are truly an artist, with your pictures and words, or the words of others. Thank you.
  2. I wish I knew Cincinnati better. I'm ashamed to say my only experience with it is from I-75 on the way to Florida as a kid. With West Coast prices being what they are, this former San Fransican is looking for a cool place I could afford. Could Cincinnati fit the bill?

California Dreamin' - The Beach Boys (I know, this is a sate song) Better known as a Mamas and Papas Song, definitely about SoCal: "I'd be safe and warm, if I was (sic) in L.A." Also Warm San Franciscan Nights Are You Going to San Francisco? Joni Mitchell "Song to a Seagull" Whole Album Tim Weisberg "Listen to the City" no word tribute to LA

Fool for the City You Belong to the City Downtown Sweet City Woman (Showing my age again)
  5. I want I 90 removed, and my childhood neighborhood around West Tech reunited with Lorain Ave.
  6. ColDayMan, Some day, somehow, I'm going to make it home to my native state (preferably when outrage makes it properly blue again) and buy you a drink. You made my day. You too, Jeff. Inkaelin, are you old enough to drink ? Oh yeah. Damn deer. Almost hit one yesterday. In town. Coming home from from church (me, not the deer) ...

Wonderful! Good to see crowd scenes, like Bonjour's historical Toledo shots ... but quite a different crowd ... Yay Jeff! Yay Dayton! Different strokes, for different folks ... and folks is folks ...
  8. Depends on the drug.
  9. We're aware of the difficulties Main Street faces and are sensitive to them. It doesn't help if Main Street slides as we focus on Vine Street or Washington Park." GODDAMMIT!!! Why does it always have to be an either/or proposition? Exactly, Grasscat. Why does one street's revival depend on the decline of another?

Jeff: What a tease. I was prepared to settle in for one of your informative tours, and it ended! There are a lot of great urban photographers on this site, but your photos and commentary are my favorites. Great photos (of course), keep up the good work ...
  11. Don't you love the crowd scenes in the historic shots? Looks like the streetscapes could use a little work, particularly Jefferson. Anything happening with the Fiberglass Tower?
  12. Is there any retail in the mini downtown? Any clubs, bars restaurants? Thanks for educating me on a city I have passed through hundreds of times.
  13. I've always enjoyed Toledo, though I have never spent more than a few hours there. Thanks for the tour. Welcome to the forum ... looking forward to future contributions ...
  14. At least the clouds came in to rescue the day!
  15. You are my kind of folks. Great site. Thanks.
  16. I meant Detroit/Shoreway ... These names are all new to me ...
  17. Thank God for that. Burning River recalls a time in Cleveland history most of us who lived through it would like to forget!
  18. Cincinnnati is 12 years older than Cleveland, but it became a major city much earlier, Cleveland did not take off until much later. I would agree with Coldayman on the age issue. And like Dayton, many Cleveland neighborhood boundaries are much more arbitrary, because of the lack of natural boundaries (i.e west side of W. 85th = Cudell, east side = Detroit/Edgewater)
  19. Three generations of my family called Cudell home, but we always called it the West Side. I was born in Ohio City, but again, back in the old days, we just called it the West Side. An elderly cousin who recently passed away lived 80 years on W. 81st St,, and never realized she lived in Detroit-Edgewater, she like the rest of my ignorant family, thought she lived on the West Side.
  20. MLK Blvd. used to be Liberty Blvd.
  21. Riverviewer, I haven't been to Cleveland in ten years, I currently live outside of Memphis, TN. But I am a restless spirit who likes to move to totally new places. I am a United Methodist minister, and southwest Ohio is a hotbed of our denomination. I'd love to serve a church (other than St. Awesome's in Rivage) in an urban setting. If any of you know any Methodists, I'd be interested to talk about the state of the church in your area. Daffodils in Cincinnati while snow falls in Cleveland gives Cincinnati bonus points over the great gray city to the north!
  22. Riverview-- I was born in Cleveland, and as much as I love it, 20 years in California and the Mid South has thinned my blood. Besides, I am looking for a new place(new to me, that is). Cincinnati just may be the ticket ...
  23. I guess I'm the nobody you're talking about. I think I could learn to love Cincinnati...
  24. Haven't been to my namesake alley in many years (Conover Ct. runs from W 85th to W 89th behind the buildings on the south side of Madison) my family lived on W. 87th from 1915 till 1993. Sorry to hear things are so bad in Cudell.
