Songs about States, Cities, Places, etc.
One of my favorite pop songs from last summer: Ohio (Come back to Texas) even though it tries to rhyme Cleveland and Leland... by Bowling for Soup

Ohio - a divided state? North vs. South?
I was born in Cleveland, grew up in Michigan, and have lived all over the United States. I know Cleveland, Toledo, and Columbus very well, but have only viewed Cincinnati and Dayton from I-75. Before I joined this forum, I knew next to nothing about those cities, and never associated them with my home state. How provincial we can be!

Hollywood name drops Cincinnati
Maryanne, the heroine of the "Tales of the City" series moved to San Francisco from Cleveland. Scooter moves to Cleveland in "Muppets Take Manhattan" Cincinnati skyline was used behind credits in old soap opera "Edge of Night" (produced by P and G -- literally a soap opera!)

East or West Side of Cleveland
When my family moved to Avon Lake, we were still West Siders. (West Side, two words, not one), My cousins, who grew up in Parma Hts. (off W. 130th St.) were also West Siders. Now that my cousins have moved to Grafton, they still consider themselves West Siders. I guess it's a state of mind thing ... I, like the Pope, am too lazy even to do a seaech. Is there a good East vs. West Cincinnati thread, or is it time to start one?

I'm a third generation OhioCity/West Side native. We went to the East Side for culture, but everything else was available to us the West Side. I always heard the boundary between the East and the Midwest ran through Public Square ...

Hamilton! - Gallery 8 - The Southeast Neigborhood
I think you may be too close to Hamilton, and a local person's perspective/bias to see how wonderful this neighborhood looks to an outsider. No disclaimer needed. Thanks for showing me around a city I formerly knew as just a name on the map.

Cleveland Metroparks: The Emerald Necklace
I have many happy chidhood memories from the park across the street fom my cousin's house on Big Creek Pkwy. in Parma Hts. Dead Man's Cave supposedly has noxious fumes that would kill you if you went in too deep(!), and the big vines were wonderfully placed to swing from bluff to bluff... 8-)

General Roads & Highway Discussion (History, etc)
The backwards Southern state I live in has a speed trap law. If any town receives over a certain percentage of its income from traffic tickets, they lose the right to patrol the highway. In an adjoining state, a city must have three freeway exits in order to patrol the interstate. It seems to me that Linndale was originally a settlement for African American railroad workers. In the 60s, it was rare to see Black people on the West Side, so I suspect racism may have had something to do with it not being annexed by Cleveland or Brooklyn. Just a guess ...
