  1. From what I've heard, the University has owned that property between McMillan and Calhoun for something like 30 years and were just sitting on it.
  2. Here's some pics of the rowhouses that used to sit between Calhoun and McMillan. The ones on the Calhoun side were vacant, so I was able to get inside. The ones on McMillan were occupied right up until they were demolished. I believe these pics are from spring of 2003. In the second pic you can see they haven't even begun construction of UPA yet, so you can see Shoemaker in the background
  3. Maybe it's just a generational thing having to do with the demographics of twitter users, but it seems like Cincinnati's twitter-universe is overwhelmingly in favor of the streetcar. (And aren't these the types of people the city should be trying to retain -- you know, the "young professional" types?)
  4. Now that's an idea.
  5. I've found the buses to be a very reliable way of getting around when it snows here. I live in uptown (Clifton/gaslight) and work in Over-the-Rhine, and always take the bus to work when the roads are bad. So much easier than dealing with the icy hills.
  6. ^ this. It's why I've continued to live there.
  7. The IGA in Northside turned into a Sav a Lot or something. Could be the future of Keller's. Seems like the state would benefit by urging Keller's to apply for bankruptcy. If the Clifton IGA becomes a sav-a-lot, that'd be a sad day for the Ludlow business district.
  8. I think it would help a lot if the Freedom Center had more artifacts and exhibits. The most striking thing about that place when I've been there is just how empty it is. It feels like a large majority of the floor space in the building is completely underutilized. The exhibits feel crammed into small areas on the sides while the center of the building is a vast, empty circulation space.
  9. I'd love for there to be a special Skyline location there, that served an expanded menu -- and possibly even Cincinnati beer. Probably not possible, but I can at least dream :)
  10. Wow, a lot has changed in the warehouse district since I lived in Toledo 10 years ago. All due to the stadium relocating downtown, for sure. I'm gonna have to go to that new Tony Packo's the next time I'm up there visiting family!
  11. There's a Holy Grail up in Corryville, just off Short Vine. Lots of college kids, naturally.
  12. From the plan in that article, it looks like they're replacing that large industrial development that sits to the south of the Target/Meijer, across the street from the megachurch, not displacing any residential development. Is that industrial complex occupied, even partially? I'm generally opposed to suburban-style development as well, but if that site is sitting relatively unused, then any productive use would be an improvement.
  13. I hope they're turning Weilert's into a bar and biergarten, like it used to be. It'd be a shame if that infamous saloon was turned into a couple loft apartments or something.
  14. That depends on what kind of professional world you're talking about. Most "creative" professions use them exclusively, like graphic designers, photographers, web designers, even an increasing percentage of developers, since OSX is a Unix system and plays well in the LAMP development world. I work at an advertising agency and everyone there, including "non-creatives" like account execs and project managers have macs.
  15. Also remember, competition and variety is a good thing. There's still the Moerlein Lager House, so think about it this way, that's potentially less people waiting in line for the biergarten :)
