Cincinnati: Downtown: Queen City Square
It is called the "tiara"...it was insipired by Princess Diana's Tiara, that doesn't mean that's not what it is called? :wtf:

I'm just glad Cincinnati is even getting another building over 500'+. As for the design I agree with Scrabble this building is so "Cincinnati" style. You won't see anything like this building in any other city. I think that's what Obata was going for. :yap:

The first piece of the Tiara went up today!

Cincinnati: Downtown: The Banks
Ok, that area where they are building things looked like a giant empty lot nor too long ago. It was an eyesore and it's a good thing they are building on it. The lines were not hard to draw, but I wanted to use this picture instead of something else because this is what it actually looks like now. P.S. My SN came from a picture I saw in the GAT@ QCS thread when they were first building it. The site looked like one giant "dirty sand pit", with all the trucks and stuff. Just reminded me of when I was kid.

I wasn't referring to the bridge, but you guys answered my question: "Brooklyn Bridge Park".

Cincinnati: Downtown: The Banks
I got a question. This may sound stupid because I haven't been following this thread for long but: Isn't the banks going to consist of all of the area between PBS and GABP? I only see contruction on the GABP side. From the looks of things this was the worst side for development. So were they just getting this side (site) prep for development and then they were going to prep the other side? I'm sure these are going to be built in phases.

Where is this located? That kindof looks like a future Cincinnati, like when they replace the bridges.

Awesome, so the tower's hull will be complete by the end of July? Will they take down the crane then?

I'm glad they seem to be keeping up the pace with the curtainwall installation. Only 6 more levels to go. Bravo! They have done so much work since the start of the vertical construction over a year ago.

I agree...the name will be Great American Tower, because the little QCSI is called "Key Bank" Right? Well at least it has the logo of Key Bank on it?

I thought that was what those pieces were lying on top of the garage. I'm wondering if maybe they're just waiting for all the piece to show up to get started.

I predict they will be done with the curtainwall by the end of May. If they keep up with the current pace. This is awesome.

The tiara will not be that tall lol! Most likely it will be a little over half that. Remember the crane is about 725'.

Ok, technically the building is roughly 575' tall including the concrete core. But the height of the floors which Sherman is referring is around 560' or so. If you look at the webcam you'll see what looks like 1.5 levels of concrete core sticking out past the top (41st) floor . This is the current unofficial height of the building IMO. Since the total height of the building is 665', I just subtracted that height from the current height and that's where the 90' came from. The concrete core will be inside the tiara so it won't add or subtract to the overall height of the building once it's built. So the tiara from the top of the 41st floor to it's peak will be around 100' or so extra. Hope I didn't confuse you. I believe the actual height of the building changed from 660' to 665'? Many articles suggests 665': "At 563 feet above Third Street, the tower's current height surpasses downtown's 495-foot tall PNC Tower and 468-foot Scripps Center. It will remain the building's peak height until work begins in March on a grand 400-ton tiara that will top off the tower, crowning it at 665 feet." My math: (13' Floors x 41) + 20' Lobby + 10' Mezzanine = 563'. The height of the building + Tiara 102' = 665'. So it will be 91' taller than Carew Tower excluding the flagpole.

Forgive my ignorance your grace, but I'm wondering why does it take a month to "Start" construction not complete the construction. Or maybe I missunderstood what "installation" means? When you start construction it means you begin all the work involved with putting it together, and what I understood was they were'nt going to do anything until the end of April? "Am I wrong?"

So are they just focusing on the interior now instead of the outside? Why not finish up the curtainwall and then fucus on the interior? They only have seven more floors left. Which would probably take about another 6 weeks to complete. Anyway, I wonder why it's taking a month to start on the Tiara?

From what I can tell the Crane was lifted 120ft extra. The Tiara is going to add an extra 90 Ft. So this could be close to what the final building will look like when completed which actually looks really tall!

Holy sh!t! That crane is tall! Nice! I would love to see the view from the crane!!! We need pics Sherman!

Cincinnati: Downtown: Queen City Square
I've thought about that millions of times, they are however joined at the hip! lol If they were combined this would be an 800+ footer we're looking at today and the second tallest building in Ohio. Man the prestige Cincy would have had.

I know it looks just as bad as the renders put it. But just think we won't be able to remember the way Cincinnati looked when it wasn't there. This Building is having a huge impact on the skyline!

What work did they do? Usually when they work on the crane it involves a jump or some kind.
