  1. I haven't heard anything at all. (This is a subject I keep half an eye on). Flyertalk has nothing in its CLE thread either and it tends to be the early warning for Hopkins related news - This thread is a good discussion: http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/united-mileageplus-consolidated/1080953-doesnt-sound-good-cle-63.html Just a couple of weeks ago the sentiment was this:
  2. There is fresh orange spray paint this morning marking the cable lines as well as some small (by hand) digging along the strip of land North of Father Caruso Drive from W73rd to W 70th. Maybe finally getting ready to move that sewer as part of the 73rd st. underpass?
  3. http://www.cleveland.com/metro/index.ssf/2012/11/metroparks_close_to_lakefront.html Closer and closer :)
  4. Article this morning on potential model for the Acacia property: http://www.cleveland.com/metro/index.ssf/2012/10/post_58.html
  5. Good thinking, Clevelander17 http://www.cleveland.com/business/index.ssf/2012/09/cleveland_metroparks_could_acc.html Cleveland Metroparks could accept donation of Acacia Country Club from the Conservation Fund
  6. OK -- thought I should find some links since I'm throwing numbers around loosely: http://www.nps.gov/ncrc/programs/lwcf/lwcf_case_studies.pdf http://www.ohiodnr.com/Coastal_Main_Menu/PublicAccess/Ot_NBI_SP/tabid/22619/Default.aspx
  7. +1 - That's what happened on North Bass. (I'm not an expert on on the NBI deal, but my understanding was $6mil put up for purchasing the property by the Conservation Fund, then an agreement with the State of Ohio to turn it into a State Park. The Acacia site if sold to the Conservation Fund (and my shareholder friend just hit balls yesterday....said it looks like a done deal ......members are going around offerring to help employees find new jobs) they woulld look for some governmental partner. It ain't gonna be Lyndhurst with current leadership. Maybe the County (ala Wendy Park) or the Metroparks?
  8. http://www.bizjournals.com/columbus/morning_call/2012/08/lyndhurst-tries-to-outbid-conservation.html The Mayor of Lyndhurst wants this developed soooooooo badly. A bidding war now on to try to push out the Conservation Fund. Not scientific, but a personal friend and Acacia member says the majority of members are leaning towards a green space offer rather than development despite the lower $$ on the table. As for rumors of potential nefarious goals of the conservation fund.....no way. This is the same group that yanked North Bass Island from the plans of development...... and it is a true green, zero development, park project now.
  9. Heh -- we got called out for being overly risky moving in at 69th and Fr. Caruso .....in 1998. Neighborhood just keeps getting better!..... Welcome to it!!
  10. See y'all down there for Krusty's today....... to ummmm...... scout out the plan footprint?
  11. Dan T. Moore certainly got over on everyone in that deal. By playing the County against the City in their squabble over port management, he got to sell the land while still keeping the marina and the bar/tavern plus getting the park that he'd always wanted all at the same time. Not to mention most of the citizen groups and park users think he's a hero for saving WHiskey Island. Not bad. It was interesting to watch over the years (i've had my boat down there since 2001).
  12. Dan Moore's granting of the land to the County was meant to prevent *exactly* that from happening. The City of Cleveland was looking into moving port facilities into the Whiskey Island area. Environmental interests and the WIM ownership got together and eventually did a quicky deal with the county (with part of the deal being that the land must remain a park in perpetuity and that the marina would be leased back to Mr. Moore's group) before Cleveland could pull eminent domain. The City sued the County and it became a big a democratic party p*ssing match, but eventually it ended.
  13. A mixed bag from the NOACA meeting today: http://www.cleveland.com/metro/index.ssf/2012/07/cleveland_to_get_15_million_fo.html
  14. A bit of cross-posting from Transportation -- but I think this applies to both http://www.cleveland.com/metro/index.ssf/2012/06/post_34.html

  17. Hope the local/regional funding comes through. http://www.dot.state.oh.us/trac/TRAC%20List/2013-2016%20Major%20New%20Construction%20Program.pdf Today's TRAC has ODOT stalling on W.73rd project until 2022 :(
  18. *looks to post above* Finally a bit of good news. Hope the fundingg comes.
  19. Tremont Taphouse probably the closest fit.
  20. Not very happy news out of ODOT on projects: http://www.ideastream.org/news/feature/47118 ODOT Announces Plans To Solve Financial Problems "It’s not news that the Ohio Department of Transportation is in financial trouble. But when ODOT Director Jerry Wray goes over the numbers, they may not be new, but they can be surprising. WRAY: “There is a $1.6 billion funding shortfall for construction projects – those are projects that have been vetted through the process, ready to go to construction, and we don’t have enough money to build them. Plus, there’s another $10 billion worth of projects, future projects that are in the development process for which there is no money.” And Wray says that means some of these projects will be delayed years or decades if the situation doesn’t change." Wray also closes the door on any new tax revenue. Not a Shoreway-specific article, but just another piece that darkens my hopefulness.
  21. Good bye Detroit theatre (Photos by Jim O'Bryan @ The Lakewood Observer): edit - These photos from the Lakewood Observer http://www.lakewoodobserver.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=10956 edit edit - mods already provided citation One slightly positive note: Mickey Krivosh of Around the Corner is claiming the marquis
  22. I would much prefer the "urban hipster" grocer of a Constantinos to the "earthy granola" of a Nauture's Bin.....but beggars can't be chosers.
  23. Well. Tomorrow is the grand re-opening for the Sunset Grille. I was down at the park earlier this week. They are putting in a patio where the tables used to sit on the lawn NW of the bar building. They also look to have been doing some nice beautification around the park. I am crossing my fingers for good food, tolerable music, and a fun but family friendly ( or at least not family-hostile ;) ) environment down at WIM this year.
  24. I didn't have to listen to today's discussion on WCPN because I heard it 5 years ago. http://www.ideastream.org/soi/entry/4437 At least downtown is getting some population bump since then, but the scarification of Lorain county has only accelerated :(
  25. Sounds good! ( I'd prefer Constantino's near-West grocery for my own personal use, but your idea would be just fine too :) )
