OK -- screwed up my last attempt -- so here goes again More new construction at BP posted from their facebook page.

That's good. The wine bar is nice, but just by naming it a "wine bar" they spook off a good number of CLE's joe six-pick crowd. "Brew Pub" can bring in more traffic.

fify! :)

Cleveland: Edgewater Park
Makes sense that Edgewater would go to the Metroparks at the same time as Wendy Park at Whiskey goes.

Cleveland: Edgewater Park
Well now, that's the best of both worlds for us 69th and Father Caruso-ites. :)

Cleveland: Edgewater Park
Yeah-- I don't think that there has ever been any notion that Edgewater park would be "developed" in any significant manner as part of the Shoreway Boulevard project. Now that the "boulevard" part is pretty much out of the picture (at least in the short/mid term), any thought of development along this stretch of road is simply wishful thinking. It will simply be a simply slightly nicer looking stretch with bettter access for cars, pedestrians, and bikes with some trail thrown in. That's it.

Cleveland: Shoreway Boulevard Conversion
I tend to agree. I also have a hard envisioning the political environment where "selling off one of our most cherished lakefront gems to greedy developers" (as it would be framed by opponents) wouldn't be met with a huge amount of resistance. Selling unutilized/abandoned/degraded land is one thing, selling a nice state park is another. But, then again, it is State property so maybe Kasich would be willing to dump it cheap to give out some tax breaks!

Cleveland: Shoreway Boulevard Conversion
I think the fact that they've decided to go with ramp instead of intersections in addition to the bike trail to the South pretty much puts the nail in the coffin of any development there. I'm trying to visualize where there will be enough square footage to put any buildings in that scenario of significant size and just can't do it.....unless you're talking about taking chunks of the current park on the North side.

Cleveland: Shoreway Boulevard Conversion
Now I'm getting into fuzzy memory zone, so don't quote me ..... but I think that I recall from one of the public forums (summer/fall 2010) a DOT official that the speed limit would stay at 50mph with the new on-ram/off-ramp design. That they hoped sometime in the future, finances dependent, to make the boulevard project full, but that wasn't yet funded so that for the time being people could work under the assumption that ramps at 50mph was as far as it was going to go for now.

Cleveland: Detroit-Shoreway: Battery Park
Ooops- my poor grammar making my post unclear Scrapped ideas: a) 90 intersections b) Stop lights c) 35 MPH (although I hear there are some vocal advocates of this still pushing for it) Kept Ideas: a) Tunnel under the RR tracks at W. 73rd for vehicular access to Shoreway/Edgewater Park from DS neighborhood

Cleveland: Shoreway Boulevard Conversion
Yes. Father Caruso will end at 70th. My understanding is that you will be able to walk over on a walkway South of the RR tracks, but no vehicles. As a residentat 69th and Fr. Caruso I say "bring it on". Currently people drive very fast to/from BP area using the long strech of Fr Caruso to haul a**. I am more than happy to see traffic cut down. When I do go to Battery Park it is on foot anyway. And if I *were* to drive, then going up to Detroit and over wouldn't be too onerous. Yes, it will be a little PITA getting on/off Shoreway, but I find that acceptable. It's like getting a little cul-de-sac.

Both nicer tunnels *and* connections to the Shoreway. What was altered from the original plan is the idea of making the intersections come in at 90 degree angles with stoplights and altering the speed to 35MPH. 73rd will still tunnel under the tracks, but will have on/ramp instead of a stoplight. http://www.dot.state.oh.us/projects/ClevelandUrbanCoreProjects/LakefrontWest/Documents/Projectupdate_022310_FINAL.pdf please see this thread for regular updates : ) http://www.urbanohio.com/forum2/index.php/topic,4526.360.html

NEORSD is out this morning staking the sewer line along the RR tracks from W70th to just past 73rd. Hope its the first step in the process of "move the sewer - dig the tunnel- run W73rd to the Shoreway" :)

Cleveland: Restaurant News & Info
dergon darkhelm replied to blinker12's post in a topic in Restaurants, Local Events, & EntertainmentCropicana opened up last night in the old Sunset Grille space at Whiskey Island Marina. They had only a limited Cinqo de Mayo menu of chile-lime popcorn, chorizo-stuffed Cherry Bombs, chicken enchiladas, chorizo tacos, and $5 margaritas and Crop Punch. People seemd to like the food..........when they could get it. We tried to order at around 7:30 but ......they had already run out of tortillas. *shrugs* Not sure if they just got overwhelmed by the initial crowd (every table was taken both indoors and outside) or if the operational clusterf*ckery that has been the hallmark of every restaurant down there has already taken hold. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt for now since it seems that the rain has prevented some early Spring work on the outdoor kitchen. So hopefully this is a one off. The interior of the bar/restaurant looks essentially unchanged except for a fresh coat of paint and some new framed pictures. The big change is outside where the pavillion now sports a long (probably 50ft) bar. It was easier to get drinks than it was food if you went to the bar. I think that Cropicana will certainly be popular this Summer. Whether that is actually due to quality food, drink and service or simply due to its location remains to be seen.

Re:XYZ --- not every place can be "hipsters only" . A little classic rock and some acid washed denim does not make it a failure. Food has been good, service *very* friendly and good. Re: Moving to DS --- Bought my place in Casa Belvedere (69th and Fr. Caruso) in 1998 and am quite happy about the decision long term. I work East, but you can certainly bike downtown. I often take an easy ride to the WSM in nice weather. Tremont a bit further, but doable.

First dinner at XYZ the Tavern last night. Place was full at 8pm but we got the last two stools at the bar. :) 25 craft beers on tap, I had a few Smuttynose IPAs, with an equally broad bourbon selection, Mrs_Dergon had a Jackson's manhattan. Wide menu with additional specials on the board. We had buffalo tempura shrimp, udon noodles, and a walleye sandwich....all tasty. Wait staff very friendly and attentive. By the time we left around 10:30 the place was again packed, with patrons leaning in between us to get in drink orders. Looks like a DS hit! :)

My father worked for Cleveland Trust from the 50's on and used to visit that building for business early in his career. He remarks about how sad it is that it is abandoned every time we go out to dinner in Ohio Ciy....glad to see a restoration coming.

I take drunk boating more seriously than some a**holes publically urinating. If you're boating while drunk you deserve what the USCG gives ya' As for fighting....It's not like there's been stabbings or anything, but I witnessed "high drama pushing and shoving" that had to broken up by security a couple of times last summer in addition to one personally witnessed alcohol related EMS call. (( Oh -- and this *excludes* Krusty's btw ...that's a whole 'nuther thing )) In the long run, I think that having the Metroparks, who have long experience with public use areas and the abuse thereof, will be a good thing. The County has little to no desire to actively manage Wendy Park and just want out as soon as possible.
-
Cleveland: Downtown: Wendy Park
As a guy who keeps his boat at WIM *and* also regularly uses the park with dogs, friends etc I wholly support tightening the alcohol policy. Liquor should only be at the bar/restaurant within license area. Beyond that area, treat it as a metropark, not an anything goes party playground. Many of the boaters met with the county representatives at the end of last season and one of the major concerns that arose was crowd control and alcohol fueld devauchery in the park and spilling onto marina grounds. The phrase "family friendly atmosphere" was used numerous times to desribe a goal for the park, marina and tavern. I expect that 2011 will bring a significant increase in alcohol enforcement at Wendy Park.

Although perhaps a subtle difference, the drinkers of "miller lites" and "miller blue collar" people represent 2 distinctly different populations in my mind. It is not the working class folk who want to come and enjoy the waterfront that cause problems. Actually, the tavern down at WIM has always served these folks and it's been great. I Love the mix of bikers, boaters and tradesmen!! It is the cheesy shooter's crowd that has swelled down at the Sunset over the last 3-4 years or so that's really dragging the place down.

Cleveland: Downtown: Wendy Park
Heh --- I guess you and I have a different perspective. I am all for upping the cost of food and drinks in an effort get rid of the "beer tub and 6 miller lites" crowd. If some of the people that just want to go down there for a wild party at "Shooter's West" get priced out or if the atmosphere changes more to fine dining/country club so they don't want to be there I am 110% fine with it.
