  1. Change is coming to food service down at WIM/Wendy Park. I think it is a good one ... http://www.clevescene.com/scene-and-heard/archives/2011/02/21/crop-taking-over-food-duties-at-whiskey-island
  2. I'm having a hard time getting oriented to that pic ....where exactly?
  3. There is a whole protocol to request a bridge raise. A vessel approaching the lowered bridge sounds one long, one short blast. If the bridge operator is able to comply he returns one long, one short and raises the bridge. If unable (train coming, etc) he sounds 5 short. When the bridge is coming down again the operator sounds 5 shorts. The commercial vessels like "Good Time" can be heard chattering in VHF 16 (which I like to leave on just for enjoyment). "Security Security Security, This is the Good Time III approaching the mouth of the Cuyahoga river." In the ten years I've boating down here, I have yet been able to determine a detectable pattern for whether the bridge is left up, down, or partly up. It seems "operator dependent" Once it is down, though, the operator will often wait for a critical mass of boats to build up before raising it for a few minutes to let all the boats through, then lowering it once again. Sorry for OT ..... ______
  4. Last night's XYZ soft open was packed.......wall to wall people, 2 deep at the bar, occasionally spilling into the side alley. Lots of beers on tap. Food samplings were a bit tough to get to and being ravenously devoured as soon as they made the buffet but I had some tasty mussels, reuben, and a sausage hoagie. :) Two "garage door" side doors open to the East will allow for al fresco dining in nice weather. I believe this will be a great addition to the neighborhood. An "everyday" type of restaurant/tavern.
  5. Agree. Like I said though, townhomes just fine with me.
  6. Damn sticky keyboard! ( and damn my failure to proofread! ;) )
  7. Just received a Facebook update from Battery Park saying that Phase 1 is now completely sold. Pre-sale underway for Phase 2. Slowly but surely ...... :)
  8. As a neighborhood resident, I would be perfectly happy if the BP project ended up as an "all townhome" development. While it would be good for the DS neighborhood in general to have an increased population density and the traffic/$$ that comes along with it, medium density would still be a fair use of the land and a net positive. Also, might be more doable in the short/medium term.
  9. Have driven through a few times......construction (at least out of doors) looks to have halted. Probably just the winter doldrums though. I would figure to see more units starting in the Spring. Also interesting to see if the Wine Bar decide to run outdoor beer service to VB players. There's $$ to be had just by shovelling out buckets of bud light to the courts, but I'm not sure that's YOLO's style.
  10. Will the Market Garden Brewery actually have a beer garden?
  11. I had the opportunity to attend the Oct 24th presentation of the 3 plans at the GLBC meeting. I like option 1 personally. Option 2 --not enough parking and access..... I know that the eco-community would like it, but not enough action for me. Option 3 -- lots of commerce with rentals and such but I'm not sure how realistic that is. However, anythign that restores some sanity to the bar area I'll be happy with. Wendy Park/WIM as "Shooters" is unpleasent to me.

  13. Was walking the dogs and picking up some garbage from the RR tracks and found a nice crumpled up list of YOLO dates on the back of a print-out from a staff meeting. Looks like Grand Opening Fri. Nov 12 with a soft open or invite-only Nov10-11. Looks like they're also doing after parties for the World Series of Wine next weekend too I am looking quite forward to it :)
  14. On W69th back in 1999-2001 era there were a few tear-downs where orignal residents disappeared and new houses popped up. (One of which is Councilman Zone's). I am unsure if this was actual "displacement" or not .....one person died (perhaps without heirs) and rumor has it another got arreested and sent to prison for murder (potential urban legend). But I agree that there really hasn't been any large scale displacement. And the classic problem of gentrification on the original residents, rising property taxes secondary to increasing values, well.....I don't thnk we'll be worrying about that any time soon.
  15. Agree with that. Unless you are drawing in *new* clientelle, then you are parsitizing. CLE can't sustain numerous "hot" restaurant districts. Either population needs to be drawn in from the 'burbs or new population is needed within city limits. But for the time beings, I guess I'll smile and be glad I live in the "hot" neighborhood .........for now
  16. For those of you interested in a nice series of updated photos of construction at the Powerhouse: http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=18834&id=142141092475730&fbid=142142245808948
  17. We'll be out of town ....but tell him he has our support (and by anecdote, the vast majority of my neighbors).....then tell him all we need is a small Constantino's-style grocery in the powerhouse to have a fully walkable neighborhood economy!
  18. and this little blurb from clevelandscene.com
  19. lots of nice recent pics from the YOLO website http://batteryparkwinebar.com/index-2.html
  20. I can't wait for Fr. Caruso to be cut off E/W with the 73rd tunnel so people stop drag-racing down it. Give me my nice little pseudo-cul-de-sac ASAP! ((i've personally witnessed 3 near accidents at 69th there with kids on bikes/chasing balls and cars doing prolly 60-ish MPH)) Regardless of when that happens, how would you or the residents back in that cul de sac get out to go over to 73rd & get on the Shoreway? There would have to be some East/West cut over to it and right now there really isn't. Herman doesn't go all the way over to 73rd from the East? I figure it's up to Detroit and back down. Fine with me.

  22. Great news! I 'll try to walk down and take some pics for regular updating in the future.
  23. Haven't been there in a few months (around Avatar release night), but for the food has been pretty good. I do wish they had a different potato option compared to the pseudo-hashbrowns that I really dislike, but otherwise have liked the food.
  24. That's why the Sunset Grille is the new Shooters
