Lakewood: Development and News
dergon darkhelm replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Northeast Ohio Projects & Constructionhttps://www.cleveland.com/community/2020/01/a-first-in-lakewood-immigrant-son-brewery-planning-spring-opening.html?fbclid=IwAR2he3I2Y1VCCLkVHzCzYH2Fu0r-56RooODds1T7j6tPwn_tz122xk3ZK1c A first in Lakewood, Immigrant Son Brewery planning spring opening For a city that has so many bars, it’s ironic -- and, well, downright egregious -- that Lakewood doesn’t have its own brewery. That’s all about to change with the expected spring opening of Immigrant Son Brewery, which is currently planned for the former Constantino’s Market location at 18120 Sloane Ave. The visionary behind the full-service brew pub is Lakewood resident Andrew Revy. In addition to offering its initial four Immigrant Son Brewery flagship beers – an IPA, a saison, an English pub style ale and an American pilsner -- the bar will have lagers and pilsners on tap along with seasonal beers. “Our head brewer is Cara Baker, who is of award-winning fame,” Revy said. “Many people in Northeast Ohio are very familiar with her and her work. I’m very excited to give her the opportunity to make some great beers for Immigrant Son Brewery.” On the food side, Revy said the 200-seat venue, which includes a 15-seat bar as well as high tables, will transform obligatory brew-pub options into something special.

The noise complaints from the neighbor have been going on for years. ... And I have been told that they don't open the patio more that specific reason. Which is too bad because if they could open it up and get more sun ... like a beer garden or something ... it could be something the neighbor lacks.

And I thought "gluten-free Steampunk" was bad

I was walking by the site a few days ago. The "foreman" is an Amish kid .... He looks like he can't be more than 14 years old. (maybe just baby-faced I suppose ... but I did a double take)

That could well explain it. I got linked a marketing ad that had a big bold-lettered claim of "New Lower Prices!" I guess I fell for the advertising.

I saw that the price of the new townhomes south of Fr. Caruso between 70th and 73rd have had a price cut ... a big one... Original list was starting at $499,000 .... now $399,000

Excavator loading up trucks to haul away lots of earth in the vacant lot between 73rd and 70th at Gateway Ct. They also did something to one of the telephone poles ... looks like they rearrangeed wires then cut the top off of the pole. maybe they're finally going to complete the cut through between 70-73?

I've been down in this neighborhood since the late 90s. Sometimes when I'm just living it day-by-day I forget just how radical the transformation of the 1 mile around my home ... Edgewater Park, Battery Park, all of the Bluffs, Gordon Square ..... has been

We went last night. It was very nice. Well lit, clean, exposed brick. You can get recommended flights of 3-tastes (they have maybe a dozen on the menu) or build-your-own. Each comes with its own tasting notes on a card that you can keep. The bottles on the menu (and many more) are also available for purchase in the "store" area, which is just an open air part of the seating areas. _______ Unrelated note: I walked by the Shoreway Building yesterday. And the new place Good Company, in the old Vita Urban spot, is now open.

Yeah. I don't know why the Edison was such a hit while the very similar apartments in BP that are just three blocks over with the same appearance, same lake access etc aren't filling. I'm stumped on that one.

Agreed. The town-homes seem to keep on selling ... at higher and higher price points. The only thing that I hear is struggling are the 5-story apartments in Battery Park. Supposedly those are only around 20-25% occupancy.

Oh man, when that starts happening it is going to result in ?one?hot?comment? thread on the D-S Facebook page. Yeah. I imagine it will prompt many complaints. People don't plop down >$500k on a townhouse to see their driveway used as a thoroughfare. But it will be irresistible... cutting from Fr. Caruso at 70th directly to the Shoreway ramp on 73rd and back will be much more time efficient than going all the up to Detroit, over and down.

Well.. they better get it done soon. Because if they don't then the traffic is going to use the driveway of the new condos as an alternative. (It connects at 70th presently and will soon also go out to 73rd) We had tons of traffic through the private driveway of Case Belvedere getting from 69th to 70th during the period that Fr. Caruso was closed due to the sewer construction. Given the growth of the neighborhood and the high value of getting to the shoreway exit on 73rd I would expect the amount cutting through their private drive to be an order of magnitude higher.

Thanks for that link. Sounds like the CYC group was just as classy as they were at the club meeting a couple of weeks ago. ::)

I don't have anything definitive, but my sense of it was that at this point it was chummy rich guys who know each other. "My buddy is on the board of XXX and knows the chief counsel from YYY" I would guess that for now the folk from Cape Wind are providing just a bit of guidance and an early playbook. ... and probably gently encouraging legal action while positioning themselves to take the case should it end up in the courts .... for years.

I wasn't meaning to trash it. But you'd think that given the fact that multiple concepts have failed ... and failed fast ... down there, new restaurateurs might be looking to broaden the appeal of their spaces, not get even more niche.

This type of garbage really kills me. It looks like they want to push the same BS that was used to kill the Cape Wind project off of Martha's Vineyard. That's exactly right. Their legal consultants are actually from the same groups that opposed Cape Wind.

I got to attend an "informational" meeting on the project at a local yacht club last week. It turned out to be a hatchet job by a group of NIMBY climate deniers. They have a plan hatching to swamp the City Hall July 19, 6pm meeting with negative outrage to try to stall the project. (The boating community seems split best I can tell. Some consider it an eyesore, others "something to look at and sail to")

Ugh .... I was so excited I didn't even finish the whole article. What a let down. " it will be 100-percent gluten-free" "The look will be kind steampunk-ish" Gluten-free steampunk. Ugh. I'll give it 15 months ... unless there are some really deep-pocketed investors .. in which case I give it 2 years.

Battery Park Pub to Open in Former Graffiti, Reddstone, Snickers… Space https://m.clevescene.com/scene-and-heard/archives/2018/07/02/battery-park-pub-to-open-in-former-graffiti-reddstone-snickers-space Graffiti Social Kitchen closed its doors in the Battery Park neighborhood this past October. On Wednesday August 1, Battery Park Pub (1261 W. 76th St.) will take its place. Prior to Graffiti, the iconic Detroit Shoreway property was home to Reddstone, a casual pub that was a frequent destination for the new owner. “Reddstone used to be one of my favorite places, and now I get to host it, which is quite an honor,” says Garrett Moeller. Moeller and his business partner Seung “Jay” Choi have decades of industry experience between the two of them, and their goal for the bar is a return to simpler times. “Our concept is to bring an affordable approach to the neighborhood,” Moeller explains. “The feedback we’re getting from the neighborhood is that the previous restaurant was great but a little too pricey for them to go to on a regular basis. They want more of a pub atmosphere, so we’re going back to basics.”

Maybe it is sad that it's necessary. But if it is necessary then I'm happy for an establishment to set the tone.
