A couple of things noticed on my walks over the last week. 1) The factory at 73rd and Father Caruso, just East of the new underpass, has being being emptied out over the recent days. Trucks up to loading bays hauling stuff away. I figure it is close to demo time 2) The Northeastern most plot at Battery Park ( RR tracks to the North, 73rd exit to the East) has been chain-linked off. More housing units should be going in soon. (btw --- I saw that a couple of the new condos at BP "Edgewater" are listing at $504,000 (2500 sq ft) and $659,900 (3270 sq ft) )

Residents will be fighting this one tooth and nail. We have worked very hard to create a sense of community and make the neighborhood great. Putting a drug/alcohol rehab facility right in the middle of it is not consistent with the vision of the neighborhood. The developers live in Westlake, they want to put it near an entertainment district to "tempt" the residents of the facility. My response is they should put it at Crocker Park, plenty of temptation there. IN the mean time people in the neighborhood are giving this area a shot of raising children. First meeting is December 7th with the developers. I, personally, will be on the offensive. If you have interest in fighting this, the community meeting is: Wednesday, Dec. 16th at 7 PM in the basement cafeteria of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Edit: I first wrote in this post a few moments ago that I was opposed. I want to take a bit of a step back and reconsider my knee-jerk NIMBY response. I still may (probably will) oppose, but I am going to withhold judgement until I hear the details in full. But I do appreciate the sentiment in the post above.

Walked by Banter yesterday at 72nd and Detroit. Guys were working, the paper is off the front windows and a counter is in place. Looks like finally some movement on that property.

Pictures from the W73rd exit today. The ramps are done. I actually saw a car head up from Edgewater park on Saturday (even though it's still legally closed)

If a bike is legal (and wasn't that sort of the point?) it should be. Probably not very safe though. Is a bike legal? (On the road, not the bike path?) The bike path itself is clearly marked with "No Motorized Vehicles" signage.

Cleveland: Crime & Safety Discussion
Power was out on Friday night. I thought it was jsut the neighborhood, but looks like it took down 12,000 customers. Apparently some guy stole a front loader, drove it across the RR tracks and took out the power lines. Snapped the pole in half. We saw the sparks on Friday, but being this neighborhood I figured some guy was shooting fireworks. :) http://www.cleveland.com/metro/index.ssf/2015/10/over_12000_customers_without_p.html#incart_river

We have a scooter that isn't highway legal. Wonder if the Shoreway has been officially reclassified as a road so that I could ride the scooter on it now? Hmmmm...

My wife just came running down the steps like an excited, giggling child on Christmas morning... "There's a cement truck outside!" Looks like we're finally going to get Father Caruso Dr. back. After 2+ years with having a construction site instead of a street in our front yard I am very excited too. :)

Photo: A couple weeks old. A September 2015 update to the W. 73rd tunnel. ____ And, don't forget: Speed limit dropping to 35 MPH on West Shoreway today Today's the day. 35 MPH. (Not that commuters will really notice it today. With the construction, rush hour has been a lot slower than 35 for the last couple of months)

Some progress on the bluffs. (shot panoramic on Breakwater looking roughly to the North West) Mostly big hunks of rocks smashed into small piles of dirt and smoothed over a bit.... but slow and steady wins I guess.

Father Caruso drive is returning after 2 years.... yay! It is so close to actually being a street again that last night I saw 2 separate cars go pass the barricades at W67th to try to make it to Battery Park. The first guy only made it to 70th. But the second one was a jeep and made it pseudo-off road all the way to the tunnel but had to turn back due to the fencing.
