  1. Latest renderings on the Public Square redesign http://www.cleveland.com/architecture/index.ssf/2014/04/a_near-finished_plan_for_the_r.html#incart_2box

Or one of the Gold Coast buildings? Although I think they were around in the 60's.
  3. They look better than the ugly 1960's era dorms on the west side of 115th (where I lived many years ago), but definitely not as good as the fake Gothic (Victorian?) ones on the east side of the street
  4. "An old viaduct of some sort, at the bend in Sloane Subway" That's the bridge for the railroad tracks that run through Lakewood and continue through the West Shore suburbs.
  5. Almost looks like those green panels are left over from the Virgil Brown building
  6. Undergrad 1980, Grad School 83, part-time faculty in late 80's.

I've always wondered why there wasn't an Office Max or Staples downtown. I work in a big organization, and we order out of a catalog and have stuff shipped to us, but I remember working downtown 25 years ago when we would run out to Burroughs for some supplies.
  8. The question was "Why can't stairwells have windows?"
  9. Because it is a fire escape?
  10. The podium is four stories - and since they include ballroom and meeting room space, those stories will have higher ceilings than the hotel room floors.
  11. Having the tower oriented N-S allows rooms on both sides of the building to have a lake view. Could there be an engineering reason that the tower is on the mall side, instead of setback closer to Ontario?
  12. The next Cleveland Flea is the weekend before Thanksgiving. I saw a neat set of bar stools when I was there last month. http://theclevelandflea.com/
  13. "does anyone know why they are only developing 2/3 of the lot and it wont abut the med mart? is there some reason for that? seems like wasted space." So you don't block windows?
  14. The construction on Lake Rd in Cleveland is probably contributing to the extra Clifton Blvd traffic
  15. KJP - It's all in the timing. I was able to breeze right through that stretch at 7:10 this morning. BTW - they have had orange barrels sitting on the curb by all the Lakewood bus stops for the past week or so. I assume they are going to be digging up the curb lanes soon for the reinforced bus stops?
  16. If you could see a little farther down in that 1957 image, you would have seen ticketing desks for Allegheny Airlines, Mohawk Airlines, and Eastern Airlines
  17. I would assume most office buildings had freight elevators - how did they get office furniture up to all those offices? EOG executives must have had tiny desks
  18. It's chunky because in Washington DC there is a height restriction.
  19. I just like being able to say "local beer infrastructure"!
  20. What do you mean by "concerns"? I think Dave just means that since LMN was the architect of the Global Center and Convention Center they are already very familiar with the challenges, opportunities and historic importance of the site...something a new architect would have to learn. I assume they then could hit the ground running a lot quicker than others. They don't list Hotels as part of their Expertise, although they do have Mixed Use and Residential http://lmnarchitects.com/profile
  21. Avoid that stretch of St. Clair today - there were many trucks parked in front of the hotel this morning and they had even more lanes blocked off.
  22. Could they put the valet area on Huron?
  23. I got to University Circle in 1977. The only building I remember on that stretch on the north side of Euclid was a bar called The Brick Cottage, commonly referred to as "The Brick"
  24. I happened to have my Site Location software open (which includes a drive time calculator) and a 30 minute drivetime from downtown includes not only all of Cuyahoga County, but all of Avon/Avon Lake/North Ridgeville on the west, Brunswick on the SW, Macedonia and Twinsburg and most of Hudson in the SE, and all of western Lake County up to and including Mentor
  25. Working in a multi-county area, I've noticed the same thing. I am assuming labor force dropout (discouraged workers) plus out-migration. Labor force dropout may be increased by the leading edge of the baby boom hitting their 60's.
