Cleveland: Marketing the City
Yes, the swagger does matter. Recently, I talked with a business acquaintance who is located in Detroit but does business in lots of different cities. According to him, the Eminem commercial and the subsequent Chrysler commercials have had a definite impact on the mood in Detroit.

Student group trip to Cleveland - suggestions?
You mentioned Friday evening - the Cleveland Museum of Art is open till 9:00 pm on Friday, and it's free, and in University Circle so you'll have public transit to/from downtown.

Also, galleries need walls on which to hang art - if it's all glass then you would need lots of interior partitions.

Cleveland: Flats East Bank
One other consequence of the new building will probably be a drastic decrease in value of the digital billboard on the west exterior of Cleveland Browns Stadium. I think it will block its view from inbound Shoreway vehicles for much of the way across the bridge.

How about having no money?

Cleveland: Ohio City: Development and News
It's not too far away, because it's the CLEVELAND MUSEUM OF ART It's an anchor - and when you add an attractive anchor to a mall, all the little space between it and the other anchors suddenly becomes valuable. That's gonna happen here, too.

Cleveland: Downtown & Vicinity Residences Discussion
Years ago (when it was still the Union Commerce Building) I worked in an office with a window in one of the interior light wells, just about one floor above the atrium roof. In the winter time, it was a perpetually gloomy view, with barely a hint of light reaching down to us. If those were your only windows, it would not be a desirable apartment. Of course, it would have been a lot better up about ten or fifteen floors, where there wouldn't have been such as steep angle to the sun or sky.

^ "That's true too, but the problem with the Lorain Carnegie connection is that it dumps you onto the widest, busiest street in all of downtown, which will only get worse with casino traffic. " That is one corner where a pedestrian/bike overpass may make sense.

Cleveland: Ohio City: Development and News
It will be much easier to redevelop the stretch of Lorain between W 25 th and the bridge - because you don't have major institutions blocking the way. Plus, it also helps connect to Abbey Ave and Tremont.

Cleveland: Shoreway Boulevard Conversion
A problem with the side streets today was the number of trees and tree limbs down in Ohio City. Franklin was closed near W 65, there were limbs and wires down on 65th, and even on Lorain (I went pretty far south to try to avoid the traffic problems) there were limbs down.

So I guess the guy with the can of spray paint wasn't part of the planning, then?

^The PGA event and the Pro Football HOF weekend are locked into national schedules, so have very limited local flexibility.

Cleveland: Downtown: Convention Center Atrium & Expansion
They've finished knocking down the 113 St Clair building. At least temporarily, it's opened up some new vistas when going west on St. Clair. Since it was pouring down rain, didn't stop to take pictures.

Would the mostly abandoned Euclid Square Mall be big enough for sound stages and other production facilities for movie-making?

Cleveland: Downtown: Convention Center Atrium & Expansion
Driving by the other day, I noticed the camera was no longer up there. That probably means it is almost time to demo that building, too.

Cleveland: Jack Cleveland Casino
I think Gilbert really wants that casino directly across the street from the arena he manages, and not way down a "hamster tube" walkway and then up a couple of staircases.

Cleveland: University Circle (General): Development and News
This brings to mind when I heard someone describing development here as a "Cedar Point" process. Developing something here is like riding in one of the big rides at Cedar Point. You go winding back and forth through the lines until you come to a guy standing at a turnstile. You have to buy some sort of ticket from him, at which point they stamp your hand and you move on, winding your way through more of the line. Then you come to another turnstile, and you have to figure out what ticket to buy at this one. Then you get your hand stamped, and you move on to the next turnstile....... I'll leave it as an exercise to the reader to determine who is manning the turnstiles.

Cleveland: Downtown: Convention Center Atrium & Expansion
It's probably the best angle from a building (and computer network) that they control. Although they'll have to move the camera when that building comes down.

They certainly seem to have started work at a good pace. Yesterday, I drove home from work down St. Clair, and at 5:15 there were still back hoes working. This morning, coming to work at 7:45, they already had traffic stopped on Lakeside to let some trucks pull out on the road.

There was a little market (crap, I don't even remember what it's called it's been so long) on Mayfield, but they mostly only had antipasti. Are you thinking of Mayfield Imports? That was back in the 70s-80s.
