  1. Do you consider Little Italy to be part of the University Circle area?
  2. Wow, this mall has everything -Jake
  3. Wouldn't the best comparison be to Lake Shore Drive in Chicago?
  4. I'm a Lakewoodite that takes this route every day - so I have a direct interest in it. That being said, I can think of a couple of points Aren't the advantages of at-grade intersections near Edgewater Park almost totally negated by the presence of a major rail line at a substantial height, running parallel? Even if the Shoreway wasn't there, you still have to do lots of either tunnelling or bridging to get through that. In terms of vibrations, this is already a no-truck zone. RTA buses are the only large vehicles on this stretch of highway.

I don't think it was linked from here yet, but here's a website that talks about a lot of the different Cleveland neighborhoods and real estate. http://www.livecleveland.org/

There is also the Detroit-Shoreway area just west of downtown, a redeveloping area, or Lakewood, just west of downtown. In this case, you wouldn't be taking the train, but there are a number of bus routes that would make for an efficient and direct commute.
  8. Is this the section of the riverbank directly across from the hillside that is close to collapse?
  9. Another way to support the museum is to become a member http://www.clevelandart.org/memberanddonorcenter/jointhemuseum.aspx
  10. Update on the Bailey Building in Lakewood - they've peeled back the 1960's Brutalist skin, and they seem pleased with what they have found underneath http://www.onelakewood.com/blog/2009/12/bailey-building-update.html
  11. I am shocked, absolutely shocked (pun intended) to hear that the City of Cleveland doesn't upgrade their properties.
  12. Well, RTA, I was seriously considering going from a 2-car household to a 1-car household, since I live right on the 55. But I guess I'll have to stay car-dependent.
  13. Figuring out a way to incorporate the lower level of the Detroit-Superior bridge may be an option far easier than a gondola
  14. To follow up on the Walgreen's - there are two in Lakewood that are not "cookie-cutter". They are at W 117 and Detroit, and at Madison-Warren. Both built up to the sidewalk at the corner.
  15. "Otherwise, is there going to be a dip in the ceiling height under the street? " It's been many years since I was down in the further reaches of the convention center, (since the Boat Show and Sportsmen's Show was there) but there used to be narrower corridors/transitions between some of the rooms. I'm guessing that one of those narrower portions is the part that goes under Lakeside
  16. "A massive structure. But not exactly what I would call a warm working environment..." Need a lot of room for "700 fussy tailors". I'm sure that in its last year's of existence, Richman Brothers manufactured their clothes overseas. Anyone know when they stopped making them here? And wasn't the Richman Brothers downtown store somewhere in the 600-800 block of Euclid? Either in what is know the 668 Building, or where Krenzler's parking garage is now?
  17. He means "local residents that are eligible to vote for me". City of Cleveland residents
  18. Something like 12,000 participants plus spectators. What do you forsee as consequences of this for projects and construction? I imagine the sports infrastructure needs have already been met. http://news.google.com/news/more?pz=1&cf=all&ncl=d8mwKRre30RKeDMQ9RJTT6E6g3ekM
  19. RTA as a commuter (but not now) Regularly (due to travel) Washington Metro Chicago CTA Toronto Occasionally Boston T New York PATH NJ Transit SF BART Atlanta MARTA Will be doing the St Louis Metrolink next month
  20. On reversing the river - There's a significant elevation change as you go from Cleveland to Akron. Chicago is mostly flat, so you can more easily reverse the flow of a river. But you can't make a river run uphill.
  21. They may be rolling back the Brutalist clock in downtown Lakewood - taking a 1960's era concrete facade off the building at SE corner of Detroit and Warren, to expose the brick underneath http://www.onelakewood.com/blog/2009/09/introducing-new-historic-face-for.html

On the elevators- Aren't empty nesters one of the market segments that are considering a move back downtown? And if you are getting up in years, you start projecting what your arthritis is going to be like in 5-10 years. And they may not want to consider a two-level condo because of that.
  23. Just thinking out loud - Would there be a way to incorporate the massive and impressive bank lobby in the Huntington Bldg for the places where the public needs to interact? Or would it be too cumbersome to have that split off from the actual back office function?
  24. I remember an off-line conversation I had with some Lakewood realtors - that Lakewood conversion did not sell for the greatest price, but that's probably because of location, it was two doors from the Bunts-Lakewood Heights- I-90 intersection, and there's a ton of traffic there. A similar project on a quiet side street may be different.
  25. (Glancing out the window) It certainly appears to be in progress.
