I've taken Southwest a few times LAX-DAY via Denver. The connections are good, especially going east. Lately I've been taking United because it's cheaper (yup) and for the frequent flyer miles. Connecting in ORD is occasionally a nightmare. There's a really nice LAX-DEN-DAY route on United too but it's always more expensive for some reason and the DEN-DAY flight is a long one in a tiny plane. Anyway, it's nice having Southwest to add some competition even if I'm not flying them right now. Looking back at my old receipts, I'm now paying less to go LAX-DAY than I was paying to go STL-DAY in 2007.
  2. I don't you will find a citation because I don't think it can be true! The WLW tower in Cincinnati is significantly taller and was built pre-WWII. Granted, the WLW tower isn't free standing, but the Washington Monument and Eiffel Tower are also taller and built long before. New development is possible. There's been a slow but steady renewal that's been moving up Wilmington north of Dorothy Lane. Not sure what the parcel size is. Sure seems like there's been plenty of room next door at the old federal facility if a big box store wanted to move in though. Truthfully, I have no idea what goes on over there. I helped build a float for the Holiday at Home parade years ago inside one of the buildings. It was just a big empty warehouse.
  3. Anyone else reminded of this....?
  4. I haven't read the entire thread, so sorry if I repeat anything. Count me among the Gen Y pool that wants to drive less. The money issue is part of it, but I don't think fully accounts for the psyche shift. Environmental consciousness plays a part, at least for me. Rules for when and how teenagers can drive are also more restrictive than they used to be, taking a bite out of the much-desired freedom talked about earlier. I'm moving to Los Angeles in the fall, traditionally one of the most car-centric cities in the usa. While I'm going to keep my car, I'm going to take public transportation to school every day, even though it takes twice as long for the following reasons: Money: Parking permits near school cost hundreds of dollars a semester. A student transit pass can be had for ~$50 a semester Stress: Why fight the legendary LA traffic every day when I don't have to? Time: True, I lose 30 minutes of every day, but I can spend that time reading (or more realistically, accidentally napping).

That's good news... lord knows we need someone to buy all this natural gas we have stored up. Natural gas futures are currently at $2.299/MMBTU after dipping below $2 a couple months ago. Yikes. Chesapeake, the big company out in the Utica right now, just announced their trying to unload 1/4 of its holdings there to pay down debt.
  6. Hmm. That's cool I guess. The Dayton South theaters are only 4 miles away and the Danbarry is even closer, but I'm not sure if Springboro has a theater in town. Maybe it will create some more frequent movie-goers from there. Hopefully, anyway. Doubt it will kill a theater like Dayton South and The Greene did to Showcase in Centerville, but who knows.
  7. Yup, wanted to say the same thing about how close the Greene is for those in Centerville along 675. Same with people living up near the base along 675 if they want to avoid Fairfield Commons for some reason. The new development at Wilmington and Feedwire is annoying. I don't blame the property owners for selling to a developer, they've been sitting on that property for many years now. There was a big ado about what municipality was going to get that land. I think it was part of Sugar Creek township but Centerville annexed it. Kettering is the big loser in all of this. All the new retail and restaurants at the Greene and in Sugar Creek just outside Kettering city limits have really hurt businesses inside. See Town and Country for an example. T&C at least seems to have stabilized thanks in big part to Trader Joes and BW3s moving in to fill big vacancies. As for the Austin Landing development, I don't see it hurting downtown at this point. It's a 20 minute car drive away. Austin Landing won't attract anyone besides people who would have gone to some other suburban space anyway.
  8. I think the views from the northeast with the Procter and Gamble buildings in the foreground are the best. The building looks a little lonely otherwise.
  9. As someone who lived in St. Louis for four years recently, I'd say this statement is very false. Anyway, the Lumiere hotel is nice looking, but the giant electronic billboard monster is awful. I think it's 50 by 70 feet or something. It constantly flashes, encouraging you to drive directly off the side of I-70. edit- is there no way to resize images? Also, I'm mad at Lumiere for forcing the city to close a great music venue via eminent domain... for, you guess it, a surface parking lot... for a casino boat that closed 3 years later.
  10. Completely agreed. See for example, Mt. Washington in Pittsburgh. Mt. Washington is special though since it's so close to downtown. Plus it's across the river. Can anyone link me to any photos from the area? It'd be cool if it could happen, but people aren't going to pay for a meh view. Especially when you can drive up pretty easily.
  11. Ok, as long as they don't widen Main street between Miami Valley and 35. I'd miss the roller coaster/log flume feeling I get from those narrow lanes :D
