Hamilton: Downtown: Mercantile Lofts
The building next door is actually on the list to be restored. ArtSpace Hamilton has purchased the building and has plans to renovate but I can't find a timeline anywhere. I've never understood why that ugly cladding was put on, and kept on for so long. Check out artspacehamilton.org for a rendering.

Cincinnati: Clifton Heights: U Square @ the Loop
If they can put as much effort into remodeling Wilson as they did with Teacher's College, it will be a definite success.

Cincinnati: CUF / Corryville: Development and News
bigredmachine replied to The_Cincinnati_Kid's post in a topic in Southwest Ohio Projects & ConstructionThis discussion reminds me of the Bass Lofts complex in Atlanta's Little Five Points neighborhood. The building is a 1920s high school and gym/auditorium with a couple newer structures on the site. I love how they have kept much of the classic "charm" of the school while giving it a modern feel... Check it out: http://basslofts.com/

Cincinnati: Over-the-Rhine: Development and News
bigredmachine replied to The_Cincinnati_Kid's post in a topic in Southwest Ohio Projects & ConstructionI'm glad that students featured Delbert Williams playing at Findlay! He performs every Friday night at the Blue Wisp :) I don't think it was Delbert Williams, but a couple months when I was there, there was a guy singing and playing the guitar that was probably one of the best street performer I have ever heard. My girlfriend and I sat and listened to him play Georgia on My Mind and a couple other tunes for about 15 minutes. I wish I would have asked his name..

Cincinnati: Downtown: Queen City Square
On route 42 in front of Ell Farm in West Chester you can definitely tell that QCS is taller than Carew...both look great at night and in the early morning.

Cincinnati: General Transit Thread
Jake, the book looks awesome. I'll have to pick it up soon. I was in the UC archives last week and was looking through the city engineer's photos from when the subway was being constructed..pretty cool stuff.

Cincinnati: University of Cincinnati: Development and News
bigredmachine replied to The_Cincinnati_Kid's post in a topic in Southwest Ohio Projects & ConstructionInitially I wasn't a fan of the Miami Vice color scheme that the DAAP building has, but after having a class in the auditorium this quarter its kind of growing on me. That's not to say it couldn't look a lot nicer though.

Cincinnati: Downtown: Queen City Square
Is it not going to be lit full time yet? Right now (7pm) its dark and the uplighting is on but the tiara lighting isn't. I hope they are planning on lighting it from now on..I think it looks awesome

I'm not a fan of the tiara during the day, but damn it looks awesome at night!

Cincinnati: Downtown: W&S Condominium Project (3rd & Broadway)
I think people's tastes change with time. We don't see these buildings as desirable now, but in 50 years people might look at them as beautiful and QCS in disgust. (Some already do). This is the struggle that the Terrace Plaza Hotel is now facing. It was an architectural masterpiece when it was built but only a few people can see its true beauty in 2010 and therefore it sits vacant. I don't know. I don't really see the architectural value in the Kroger and 5/3 towers. And you're right, the 5/3 tower isn't all that bad. I just wish they would update their signage on top.

Cincinnati: Downtown: W&S Condominium Project (3rd & Broadway)
I hope this will motivate 5/3 and Kroger to update their buildings. The 5/3 building isn't horrible but the Kroger building is not only ugly but in an extremely awkward spot.

Greater Cincinnati Metro (SORTA) and TANK News & Discussion
Has anyone seen the buses that have been driving down 71 recently? They are transit buses but do not have a metro design on them. Instead they have diagonal stripes, much like NJ Transit buses. I see one about once a week between the Red Bank and Taft exits on 71 south. I can never get close enough to one to see what where they are from or what their destination signs say.

Cincinnati: Downtown: Queen City Square
Tell me about it. Trying to save some money and live at home for my last year at school. I grew up in WC but living in Clifton for 3 years really makes me hate the suburbs now. I guess thats a conversation for a different thread though. Back on topic..I'm excited to see what the tower looks like at night from this perspective. Right now you can only see all of the interior construction lights so I can't wait for the tiara to be lit.

I can see QCS from Rt.42 in West Chester while driving to UC every morning and the Tiara is surprisingly very noticeable from even 20 miles away. I also agree with unusualfire that it definitely looks like the tallest building from this perspective, but I guess that's because you can't see Carew's flagpole from that far.
