Good signs here. He really hates the Steelers :-)

Cincinnati: Downtown: Smale Riverfront Park
Yeah I know for sure a few cities over there have pay toliets that actually clean themselves with a spray down afterward. Also I believe they actually have some sort of system that manages time spent inside (I can't remember what happens when you run out of time, but there's some sort of travel site that I remember reading this stuff on).

Cincinnati: Restaurant News & Info
ColonelBlue replied to The_Cincinnati_Kid's post in a topic in Restaurants, Local Events, & EntertainmentThere is a sushi place out in one of those business parks by the airport. I hear all the Toyota execs go there when they're in from Japan so I'd assume it must be pretty good. I think it might be called Jo Ann or something

Other Countries: Passenger Rail News
Very good article. Having been to Europe and Japan, these systems are a godsend. I can't think of anyone I know of whose been over there and hasn't liked it.

Ugh Chris Henry. So much talent... Here's to hoping they find a way to reform him somehow. I would hate to see him latch on somewhere else and get things right. He could be very very good with that size and speed.

Downtown Cincinnati Aerial from 2004
Helicopter shots are always awesome. It'd be nice to have some updated ones. Maybe someone could try to get some night shots? Those would be very cool.

Random Ohio Sports Talk
Jeez the last two games I've went to someone has gone onto the field. At Sunday Night Football last year someone ran onto the field but got no where near the play. It never got on TV either. Some idiots on TV today were saying he should have been penalized by the refs. If that were the case, I hope someone would run out in Colts gear if that game came down to that. The Colts game got moved to 4:15 BTW. National TV baby!

Dubai: Developments and News
Wasn't one of those island vacation home deals they were going to build be a map of the world and customers could buy certain spots of the globe? Wild. I wonder what happens though down the line when all that oil revenue stops.

NKY: Buttermilk Towne Center
It's near Buttermilk Pike, the big road through Cresent Springs. This place is extremely disapointing and lame. If I wanted this crap, I could just go ten minutes out to Florence. Furniture stores and chain Mexican restaurants suck.

CVG: Delta and Comair news
Ugh Leo Mullin was an idiot. And his retirement package is still on the payroll. It seems like him and his buddies are to blame for most of the mess. Delta was a great airline before they came along.

Ohio Intercity Rail (3C+D Line, etc)
Something else I've noticed that might help ridership of a high-speed link between really cities anywhere in the U.S. would be to have a strong rail system within the city in place. I know when I was in Germany you could get to the bigger suburbs via the Hauptbahnhof either by local, commuter rail type trains or smaller EMU S-bahn trains. Then you can feed the main train station with traffic and for the passenger it couldn't be any easier than to just switch trains. I remember stuff like this being in place in some of the smaller cities too. It's certainly going to take a lot of work to get a system like that put in but the local connections are something that jet transportation can't easily supply. Couldn't the profits of such a system pooled with other cities help pay for the advancement of HSR? I'd imagine it'd take some money to set up the commuter system, but many areas already have freight lines that could carry the low-speed traffic.

Nice game today. WHO DEY! Can you feel it? I seriously think they could get that 4-0 start that they wanted pretty easy.

Cincinnati: Downtown: Queen City Square
Yeah it looks great now. Hopefully stage two gets built to go along with it. That would look really nice.

I was really impressed. Odell Thurman is a beast. The great thing about him is that he's only going to get better. 2nd round steal for sure. The Palmer pick was the one sore spot on an otherwise spotless game for him. He's continuing to turn the corner on eliminating those types of things. He was hitting his recievers really well. The Vikes took a trouncing so I'd expect a big home opener next weekend. WHO-DEY! I hope the Browns don't finish last though. I don't want them to have Leinart!

CVG: Delta and Comair news
This was in the Post on 8/16/05 about Delta and the looming bankrupcy: Delta struggling to avoid bankruptcy By Jon Newberry Post staff reporter Despite an agreement to sell its regional carrier Atlantic Southeast Airlines for $425 million, Delta Air Lines on Monday signaled it is running out of time to avoid bankruptcy as demands on its remaining cash mounted. The Atlanta-based airline, in a quarterly financial report, cited several factors threatening its ability to continue operating without court protection: - Troubled contracts with credit card providers Visa and MasterCard. - $470 million of debt that could come due by Dec. 31. - An unusually large number of early retirements by its pilots. - Historically high fuel costs. - Weak prices for air travel. Cincinnati: Downtown: The Banks
I remember that arcade as a kid taking a bus to downtown with my grandmother. The only time I was down at the Transit Center I was in the parking lot leading into it. It was locked by two huge chain-link gates so not much to see. I've been in the car with out-of-towners who though it was some sort of subway entrance. I doubt most people going to Reds games know what it is either.

Amtrak & Federal: Passenger Rail News
Thanks for clearing that up. I wasn't sure if it was to our advantage since we were so far behind to take the giant leap to dedicated line. $25 million sure isn't worth it. So the current infrastructure can handle 80 mph with little or no upgrade? What's the price point for 110?

Amtrak & Federal: Passenger Rail News
I've always wondered is the high-speed rail plan for Ohio include building dedicated track just for high-speed rail? That's the problem with the high-speed network in Germany. Except from Cologne-Frankfurt and a few areas you can't achieve top speed. Would it be electrified as well? It'd be nice if they can put the fastest possible technology in the plan. I think the one in California had plans of going 200+ MPH or something like that which beats the German ICE 3. I would kill for a rail system like the Germans have. They hate it for different reasons, but man is it easy to get around.

Cleveland Hopkins International Airport
I think it doesn't matter for Continental with a code share though, because they get most of the profits from that seat sold and can boost their network at the same time. I don't think they're worrying about Delta though. After all they are members of the SkyTeam. But for routes to Asia, it'd be smarter for Continental to code share or transfer it's passengers somewhere else. They'd most likely have to use 777s on those routes and while the demand is there I'd doubt they'd be able to fill a 777 daily from Cleveland. Europe is different though and that they could defininatly support on their own. I'm all for Continental giving Delta a push in the butt though by bringing service into Cleveland for European routes. Delta certainly needs all the incentive to get its act together.

Cleveland Hopkins International Airport
To be quite honest, while it would be nice to see international service to Cleveland wouldn't it be more economical for Continental to code share with Delta on flights to Cincinnati or Atlanta and fly passengers out of there? Or for Pacific Rim flights code share with Northwest through Detroit and Minneapolis? And if the proposed high-speed rail link gets in place it only further supports the Cincinnati and Detroit connections Oh and on the runway length issue, it's not the plane type but rather the route it will fly. A 747 heading to Seoul or Tokyo filled with fuel is going to need more room to get of the ground than one heading to London or Frankfurt. I think that was the reasoning behind Cincinnati's East-West runway expansion to allow for that type of flight. Also altitude plays a role as well in places like Denver. They have the longest runway in the country at 16000 feet; Cincy's is 12000 I think; JFK and Las Vegas have 14500 foot runways. Those are about as big as they get. Although I wonder if a 11,000 could handle it. The previous one in Cincy was 10,000.

NKY: Vision 2015
I did one. I find it funny that they didn't mention the city of Cincinnati once. Is it not true that NKY's growth is linked to Cincinnati's growth? What about working together to get things like light rail done?

NKY: Buttermilk Towne Center
Getting in and out of that Chipotle is going to be a mess. It's in a corner bumped up against the on-ramp for I-75 and Buttermillk. Plus on one side of the building their is a McDonald's and on the other a gas station. Talk about nightmare. The retaining wall they're talking about in the article is going to be huge. I'd compare it to the size of the retaining wall on the river.
