  1. well crazier things have happened around the area. I mean who ever thought sandusky's cedar point would become as large and world-known as it has in that seemingly remote area. I'm neither really for or against this proj. at this point. If it doesn't happen ah well.. I don't live in lorain co. anymore anyway. But if it does.. (shrugs) what's the big deal? Perhaps it is a big "pie in the sky" idea, but I can't see being fiercely against it, esp. for those who don't even live in the county anymore. Never hurts to dream a little if you ask me?
  2. There was just another big article this past Sun. in the morning journal about this. I can't remember exactly what it said but basically just said the project is still going foward, talks have been going on between Ron Twining, Jim Cordes & Neil Pike...and of course the Quarries owner. They are ironing the details out basically, and told people to get a grip and be patient because Big Stuff like this takes time, DANG IT! I'll try to find and post the article later on if I get some time. It is back from the Dead! for now.
  3. Well if it is dead, don't you think there would at least be some news about that? I'd like to hear something one way the other. Ah well, I guess I'll have to test out Corner Alley tonight and get my inquisitive mind off this for now..
  4. Well I guess I miscalculated my future prediction skills on that one. But seriously, there's gotta be some news on this happenin any time now.
  5. Nah, I didn't feel that one, but... *meditates and looks into future* I feel some more news coming up soon here..?
  6. I just FELT it man... lol how crazy is that though, the very next day there is an article after posting that comment.
  7. I feel some news coming up soon here with this whole thing..

em...so what city/town is this anyway?

mm..why not just stay in Chicago and find a job that pays better than the one you're at now. Chicago has way more job options.
  10. New article I uncovered, about regional development around Cleveland. There's a mention of the Quarries Proj. near the end. A good read: http://www.bxmagazine.com/article.asp?ID=493
  11. hmm..nice. That's interesting how Twining mentions Lorain County is now switching over to a service economy, instead of the industrial economy its had for the longest time.
  12. Cordes says his optimism 'renewed' for quarry project ALEX M. PARKER Morning Journal Writer 05/25/2006 ELYRIA -- A day after meeting with two European developers working with a British-based company on the proposed Cleveland Quarries re-development, County Administrator Jim Cordes said he has ''renewed optimism'' the project will see the light of day. Last week, Cordes said he had only ''guarded optimism'' the $1.5 billion plan to build a world-class resort, championship golf course, shopping and housing over 900 acres of dormant quarry in South Amherst Village and Brownhelm and Amherst townships would come to fruition. Yesterday, Cordes said he met with two ''potential collaborators'' that he said could team up with Trans European Securities, the English developer that originally proposed the deal.
  13. Well, I'm still optimistic about it. I mean you'd kinda figure that a $1.5 billion deal would take a while to work the details out. They can't really rush something that large..
  14. lol..someone should probably notify them about that. I was wondering how a huge river and a pennisula I never knew about suddenly appeared there. And Lakeview Bluffs.. new resort development? I hadn't heard about it until now. It looks interesting though.
  15. Well, that's understandable. Now I don't know how large land purchases like this really work, but I'd think that it would take a while to work out the details. And if both sides agree to go beyond the 'deadline' there shouldn't be any problem with that. EDIT: I found a link to a new article by Golfstyles. It goes more into depth about the golf course, who may be building it, etc. There's also a new overhead diagram/map of the development. There's a name of a developer, I think, in the left bottom corner though it's pretty small and hard to read. Can anyone make that out? The map looks expanded all the way to the lake, too, and different than the past ones. I'd say it's worth a read.. http://www.golfstyles.net/ohio/e-magazine/2006-03/005-business-amherst.htm
  16. Well a land deal should be in the works here soon I'd think. The end of March is coming up..
  17. There was talk of the ski slopes area, but not indoor. I think this was mentioned one other time before, it would get redundant to mention every proposed feature in every article. Just like most of the recent articles have left out something about the equestrian area and running trails. They'll probably add them it back in in more comprehensive articles that focus on the details of the different "zones"
  18. "What i've heard and in no way know this to be true is that this european developer is really a front for the Saudis who are building like 4 palaces to come to America to when the Saudi Empire collapses." umm....you are kidding, right? Where did you hear that from?, I'm curious. I've seen the British speakers for Trans Euro first hand, and they seem pretty British to me.
  19. Firelands school board accepts 30-year deal for Cleveland Quarries development Alex M. Parker Morning Journal Writer Oberlin - The Firelands school board unanimously agreed last night to a 30-year tax incremental finanacing agreement with the county for the planned development at the Cleveland Quarries site, according to school Superintendant Thomas Diringer. "This will really be helpful to the district and to the county at large," said Diringer. The TIF agreement will require the county to pay the school district in cash for tax revenues lost through development of infrastructure for the resort project. Because of the agreement, the school will not lose any funds as the county uses the project's property tax money to build sewers and other infrastructure needed for the resort, Diringer said. "Not only will the school not lose anything, but we believe that we'll benefit, based on how schools are financed in Ohio," said Diringer. The quarry project is a plan to build a "world-class golf course" surrounded by housing complexes in South Amherst, Brownhelm and Amherst townships. The complex will be built by Trans European, a U.K. based company. The project, which has a preliminary completion date of 2012, could cost as much as $1.25 billion, according to Diringer. The county will vote on approval of the TIF on Dec. 30, Diringer said.
  20. So there should probably be some news happening here soon. Either way, with the dec. 15 deadline whether it goes through or doesn't.
  21. "The downtown Milan Plaza area is so difficult to accept. The area is a farmland, and here we have a picture with identical towers one after the next, for who knows how many blocks. After visiting the site, I can't even imagine how the change will happen from farms to metropolis. The proposed sketch reminds me completely of the repitition involved with Hong Kong's residential planning. And it is also a modern vision of NYC's Stuyvesant Town." 1.25 billion dollars could have quite an impact I'd imagine.
  22. County OKs sewer plan to build $1.25 billion resort Matt Suman Morning Journal Writer Elyria - The Lorain County commissioners took another step yesterday toward advancing a British developer's plans to build a $1.25 billion resort in South Amherst and two adjacent townships. Britain-based Trans European plans to build the resort, called The Quarries, on more than 900 acres in South Amherst, Amherst Township and Brownhelm Township. The company has said it plans to put an 18-hole golf course, residential development, retail shops,a hotel and a year-round water park with a retractable roof on the property.
  23. I came across this article while searching on the net: http://journeys.luxist.com/entry/1234000440063508/ Interesting how this already seems to be placed in the 'luxury' category, though it says the quarries are in Chicago..lol.
  24. I wonder if they're planning to use the sandstone to build some of the buildings and structures for this development. That would be kinda interesting. Though if they overdid it, it would end up looking like downtown Amherst where practically all the buildings are sandstone. I'm hoping for more of a contemporary look, like in the renderings. I guess we'll soon see....
  25. lol..very true, sooner. Everything was basically already mentioned that I thought of. If they do this right, it'll bring lots of visitors to the west Cleveland area. It'll create a link of entertainment areas down the highways and Turnpike from sandusky to cleveland. Take a look at steele's list on the last page to see em all, plus the new Crocker Park in westlake. Many people already travel on the nothern ohio highways/turnpike to go from midwest cities to areas out east, and back, and this will bring them into west Cleveland and increase interest in Cleveland itself. Personally I think Cleveland is already a pretty active city. It really just needs more draw to get decent jobs to come and stay there. This certainly will be a large addition in itself, and in the future it'll help attract more companies and people to the area.
