  1. dang, you are fast steele. I was going to post that Morning Journal article after work Friday but you had already beat me to it. Anyway, this is definatelty the news I wanted to hear. Personally I think Cleveland and it's west side is going to be a really hopping area a few years down the road here. Should be interesting to see it grow.
  2. So Aug. 31st is the deadline? Should be hearing some news soon here.
  3. lol, yeah that would be horrible.. My vote would go for either Quarry shores, or the idea I sent in, Quarry Lodges. Similar to the first proposed name, but it keeps the historical quarry image.
  4. Here's a couple pics that're a bit clearer Medium-rise apartments Hi-rise apartments You know which rendering I'd really love to see? A rendering of the enclosed beach with glass dome over it. That would be so amazing. Also, the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th names on that list are hideous. Quarry Shores would be cool though. Was that one you came up with Steele, or did you just highlight it in the article?
  5. Big. It might not bring in large amounts of businesses to Amherst itself, but it will bring it recognition. Like, no one really heard about Vail or Aspen until the ski resorts were built there. In fact the cities themselves aren't all that big, but every year lots of people travel there to ski which has brought them a lot of recognition and money to build them up. I'm sure a lot of businesses will be built on-site and close to the quarry resort though, and many big businesses might consider locating to Cleveland. So if they build a world class golf course (and a big domed water sports facility right by it) to the professional level the developers intended, and if it attracts big golf tours, it'll definately bring lots of attention and people to Amherst. As far as NE Ohio goes, it'll probably become a tourism capital of Ohio. Actually, it's more like North-central Ohio with the area from Cedar Point to Cleveland. Like you guys were mentioning earlier, you'd have CP, the islands off Sandusky coast, and then this resort when they build it.
  6. yeah man, good job on the pictures. Was that you there at the beginning of the meeting snapping pictures? If it was I saw ya there. I managed to get a few pics when I was leaving but I was in a hurry to get somewhere so they're not the best. I got the second 2 a bit clearer though so maybe I'll try to upload them someplace. Aren't those renderings great, though? That place would definately be amazing when it gets built. Anyway, the meeting went basically the same as it says in that article. Neil Pike was there along with the other Brit guy, and the first question that was asked was when they planned to buy the land. He said he was aware of the deadline and would buy it before it was up. He sounded very sincere about the plans so it looks as if everything is still on track.
  7. The only new schematic in the PD article was basically the same as the overhead one already posted. Except it showed that the southernmost quarry would be the one covered by the dome and made into the indoor beach, which I didn't know until I saw it. Also, yeah at the meeting I went to, there were about 8 different renderings like the ones on the first page. Some of them were of the waterfilled quarry surrounded by retail and offices, some of them of the main plaza area, and others of the different rec areas and golf course.
  8. All I'm saying is that, by now, we've seen that there's obviously been a lot of thought put into the planning of this project. This I gather from having personally attended local meetings, and the amount of news and research gone into it. Also, I have a close friend who has a family member that's been working for the quarry offices for quite some time. From what I've been told, everything planned is going to be built. True there is no absolute proof yet. We'll have to wait 5 years to see that. So until the resort is actually built, it does have the possibility of not being built or it might not be built with everything they had originally planned. If that happens, oh well, I won't be dissapointed. I just think it's fun to talk about in the meantime.
  9. Yeah, I've gotta agree that this is great news for the west Cleveland area. However, what's with the constant skepticism? No proof? How much more do you want to see. This was a page long article published in the Plain Dealer, largest newspaper in Ohio. They wouldn't dedicate a page of space just to print half-truths and lies. Also, the article did mention plans to build other things than the golf courses. "luxury housing, and hotels (one of which he said would be a seven-star international rated hotel), 25-story offices, gourmet restaurants and a world-class golf course. That, plus a quarry transformed into an all-weather beach protected by a huge dome of glass, plastic and steel." and.. "The recreation areas, hotels and restaurants will be open to the public." This should definately be something to see...
  10. ..so does anyone want to pay the £18.00 to find out more about the "mysterious" TransEuro company?
  11. After seeing that overhead map on the previous page, I've come to realize something. When I make trips back to Amherst, (I'm now currently in Toledo) I usually take the Turnpike and get off at that exit there on Baumhart Rd. So what I realized is that this resort, if they do go through with building it, will actually be RIGHT next to the Turnpike. If you get off at that Baumhart exit, you'd basically be right at the entrance to the resort already. You wouldn't have to travel down any back roads or anything to get there like most other resorts/ski resorts that I've been to. Not only that, but the north side of the resort would be right next to about a mile and a half stretch of Turnpike. If the Trans-Euro company decides to make everything they proposed (indoor beach, retractable dome, world class golf resort, ski slopes, convention center, etc.) it's going to be seen by a LOT of people just travelling down the Turnpike. And a lot of people use the Turnpike to get from big midwest cities (Chicago,Detroit) to out east cities like NYC, Boston, Philly, Cleveland, whathaveyou. And vice versa - people travelling from east to midwest. I should know since I used to work a few summers for the Turnpike. So the resort would most likely get a large amount of attention right there. They wouldn't even have to rely on a lot of advertising to get people there if they built it right. So maybe the comparing it to Disney World wouldn't be so far fetched after all. It probably wouldn't result in a huge amount of sprawl (and no movie-themed rollercoasters or things like that), but it would result in many people stopping off the Turnpike and massive business for the resort and surrounding area. And hey, if you wanted to go on rollercoasters you could always just stop at Cedar Point or something.
  12. Hmm..I can't see this having quite the draw of Disney World, but I'm sure it would be a pretty big hit. Well, unless they make a dome over the whole thing. That would be pretty impressive since I don't think that's ever been attempted before on a resort. Not that I know of anyway... Anyone heard anything new on this lately?
  13. Yeah, I was there as well and not very much went on besides zoning discussion. But, I was able to see all the concept pictures that they had, which are lookin real nice. A place like that could definately get national attention and add some good jobs to the area. Plus I also got to revisit my old middle school which was kinda cool. It looks like things are still in progress, like you said.
  14. Steele05: "jskboarder... are you from the Amherst area or are you just interested in the project??" Well, both actually. I'm originally from Amherst and as a matter of fact I went to Firelands middle school. So if those directions were for me, I probably won't be needing em. But thanks for the thought anyway! If they do go ahead with this project, I'm wondering if they're planning on draining all thw water out so they can build, or what? This will definately be an interesting project to say the least. Never in a million years would I ever expect something of this size to be built in those quarries, but it's a pretty cool idea I have to say.
  15. wow where are those quarries at? The only ones I know about are the ones next to Quarry Rd. in the channel 5 picture, and don't look nearly as deep. By the way Steele05, do you by chance know if next weeks meeting is public? And where and when it's supposed to be? I'm sure it'll hit the papers soon, but I'm just wondering. I'd like to try and make it out there if it's supposed to be public just to see first hand all that's going on.
  16. Personally, I think the ski slopes would be a big draw for this area. When I was in high school, a group of friends and I would take a short road trip out to Boston Mills/Brandywine every Saturday night for something fun and different to do. We all bought season passes so we could go whenever we wanted. It was great fun and I'd deffinately go if ski slopes were built in the Amherst area. And I'm sure it would bring in a lot of other people who want something fun to do in the winter too.
