  1. I've heard a number as high as $1.7 million to renovate Market Square Park. My concern is why this amount of spending and renovation is necessary for this park. I could see spending roughly 1/3 of that amount on landscaping and perhaps the reconfiguration of a few brick seating walls, but this number seems awfully high for a park that is already quite a nice meeting/market/performance space. I wonder if some of the money might be better spent improving the urban aesthetic of other parts of ohio city such as the Bridge Ave corridor and the parking lot behind the market.
  2. The space that was the Waterloo Cafe is now called the Cafe @ Arts Collinwood http://artscollinwood.org/cafe/

FreeThink, thanks for sharing Rocket Launcher, I've never really listened to Bruce Cockburn, but I really enjoyed that song. Here's one for you that a friend turned me onto recently, Phil Ochs "Cops of the World"

Fulton Foods allows you to do this.
  5. Has Ohio City ever been awarded a Transportation for Livable Communities Initiative [TLCI] Grant through NOACA? http://www.noaca.org/tlci.html The report completed as a result of the Tremont TLCI Grant is quite impressive http://www.noaca.org/tremont.pdf

A good point and the reason is likely due to the fact that there is no Pedestrian advocacy org in CLV.
  7. Here's a Sun News review of the Moe's in Avon Lake http://www.cleveland.com/sun/scoopdujour/index.ssf/2008/12/moes_southwest_grill_restauran.html One nice thing about this place is that they seem to do a good job of accommodating vegetarians by offering tofu in a burrito.
  8. IMO, the lack of solar on the canopy is a damn shame; heightened by the fact that the garage next door utilizes panels on the roof. The people in the comp generated photo appear to be from Sim City, but I do like the provision of casual seating along the foundation wall of the glassy terminal.
  9. I'm pretty sure the STJ Transit Center has a small retail space for rent inside the 'terminal' building. However, as of early April, they have not had anyone interested in the space. This info was announced at the April TIAC meeting (Citizens Advisory Board's Transit Improvement Advisory Committee)
  10. Although it is the suburban population that needs to hear these sorts of message the most.
  11. boutique store for women coming to a prominent storefront in Gordon Square + 4 one-bedroom 'loft style' apartment units further down Detroit.

I'd appreciate a copy. You can email it to me if it's not larger than 15mb. Thanks!
  13. Those middle two interior pics are not flattering and not what i would have expected from such a classy job on the exterior. Am i correct to assume that historic tax credits are more about exterior standards than interior standards?
  14. FYI - This Friday, June 4 RTA's Transit Improvement Advisory Committee mtg takes place from 8:30-10am @ RTA's Main Offices @ 1240 W. 6th Street. All are welcome to attend. We will likely be hearing from Maribeth Feke & Beth Long on capital projects that are currently in the planning stages. We will also likely hear from Rob Mavec (City of Cleveland Commissioner of Streets ) and/or his staff on the need to facilitate ped movements on E. 55 adjacent to the RedLine station w/ the use of a planted/concrete median on E. 55. Last, we will definitely review RTA's plans for TWE Shelters on Coventry and long-term sheltered bicycle parking at 3 RedLine stations. All are welcome to attend.
  15. Just curious, how does the exterior of a building earn a complete failure? I'd like to better understand what that means and/or means to you.
  16. I would appreciate it if people did not refer to these public art bus stops as shelters. They are not shelters by any definition of the word.

Can any Columbusites on this forum inform me as to whether the City and/or the region have adopted a Complete Streets ordinance?
  18. Frank's Falafel House W.65 & Franklin) is planning to open in early June. Somewhere on Detroit Ave, between W. 74 & W.53, an ice cream and chocolate shop will be opening.
  19. I've heard pretty good things bout 56 West. Do you know if they facilitate vegetarian eating? For instance, I feel that the Beer Engine facilitates vegetarian choices b/c they explicitly offer to substitute any burger patty w/ either a black bean burger or portobello mushroom cap.

@ DoctaBroccoli: It is true that the meeting time is not the MOST convenient, but it is hard to fit into everyone's schedule all the time. We are always looking at improvements to the process, Baby steps.... That said, if you have a comment/question re: scheduling/ticket vending, let me know here or via PM and I will do my best to get you a response.
  21. @willyboy (& future readers)... On Detroit near W. 65th, I am not speaking of vinyl. It's actually stainless steel ART w/ absolutely no function that may induce vomiting. Regarding American Campus Communities, have a look at their site: http://www.americancampus.com (corporate site) http://studenthousing.com (consumer site) You will likely note lots of vinyl in projects all over the USA. I am in no way justifying vinyl. But, what is the cost effective replacement, especially in the instances where the developer is not going to own the building?
  22. @ Rockitect: If you are throwing-up a little in your mouth when you bicycle past the CSU dorms (along Euclid or Prospect?), I'd highly advise you not to bicycle down Detroit, past W. 65th as the newly constructed 'architecture' you see there could result in your gut bursting forth with partially digested foodstuffs or perhaps projectile vomiting. That said, I may agree with you on the vinyl siding issue. But, what is the cost effective replacement? This siding is primarily being used on a part of the building that faces the highway, correct? Further, this building is being constructed on a tight budget by the developer, which I believe is American Campus Communities. Higher quality buildings at CSU have been constructed using different revenue sources. For instance, the Rec Center was financed with funds from parking revenue. The Health/Education building was financed w/ State of Ohio funds. The Student Center, I believe, is being financed w/ in increase in general student fees. I believe the type and amount of funding has a direct effect on material quality. I could be wrong. While I generally agree that CSU needs to improve upon the quality of their built environment. I'd say that based on the history of constructed campus buildings, we are off to a pretty strong start.

@ MyTwoSense: 1. Good idea, I'll change it. 2. It is posted in the general RTA Thread, but I wanted to post it on the calendar as well to reach a more general audience. When I added it to the calendar, the system automatically created this thread. 3. See #2
