Cleveland: Downtown: The Avenue District
E12 Streetscape Issue: the bicycle racks are insecure and do not inspire ANY confidence to a cyclist to leave their bicycle there. At minimum, they need to be retrofitted, though the best long term solution would be replacement. Anyone have an email/phone for Paul Volpe at City Arch? Please PM me as I have had zero success getting in contact with anyone from the firm, which ultimately, is the responsible party. Have a look at the installed racks here > http://www.flickr.com/photos/56837381@N00/3745264895/in/set-72157606359488439/

Cleveland: Downtown: East 4th Street Developments
a chocolate bar w/ peanuts AND vodka could open on E4........ ------------------------------------------------ http://www.clevelandepicure.com/ Digg This June 16, 2009 Chocolate Bar Coming to Cleveland! "Last year Mrs. Epicure and I made a trip to Buffalo with the usual suspects M&J to visit our good friend C and his family. Luckily for us, his uncle owns an amazing chocolate/martini bar called the Chocolate Bar. And now, luckily for all Clevelanders, the first franchised Chocolate Bar is coming to our fair city sometime later this year, if all goes well. The location will be at the intersection of Euclid and East 4th, just north of the hopping pedestrian street that houses Greenhouse Tavern, Saigon, La Strada, Erie Island Coffee Co. and Lola, of course. So, for all of the naysayers who think that the good stuff goes everywhere else, this is just one more example of how Cleveland is transforming itself into a center of culinary excellence and excitement that people want to invest in and make even better." --------------------------------------------- In this post, I forgot to say how very much I enjoy chocolate micxed with hot peppers, milk, cinnamon, coffee, cheese, hot sauce, etc. Chocolate is really really good.

Cleveland: Detroit-Shoreway / Gordon Square Arts District: Development News
the rendering does not do them justice. in actuality, they are bright blue and translucent, so sun shining on them should create a neat effect. they will be mounted on aluminum perches which will be drilled into trees, telephone poles, etc.

Cleveland: Festivals, Music Concerts, & Events
@ the 'very angry' 327 & cd-cleveland ingenuity is difficult to market and can be difficult to attend b/c there is no core constituency that they are catering to (thank goodness) and you often don't get what you expect. perhaps by removing your expectations, you can better appreciate what is happening. easier said than done, but give it a try, before you give up. i thought this was the best ingenuity i've yet attended (my 3rd) and thought the art/tech collaborations (whatever the @#$)*@#$ that means) were muy interesante! re: music, the highlight for me was peach cake, late on fri night, fully pushing the envelope of audience participation in a 'rock' show.

the most pressing issue, imo, with the crosswalks, is to coordinate the traffic lights to enable an all ways cross. the only all ways cross I have seen in Ohio is at Ohio Univ. here's a pic of the one at OU >

Just out of pure curiousness, what other fairs do you attend that offer pasture raised dairy shakes, pasture raised beef hamburgers/chzburgers, and pastured beef lasagana? the food at that stand was incredible and i've never before seen anything like it. plz tell me which festivals feature that stand. many thanks!

Cleveland: Warehouse District: Development and News
Word EC! I especially agree on the functionality of the installed plants as well as sustainability in terms of maintenance. We need to think really really green on this plant installation and see it as more than just a pedestrian restaurant row. I'm especially interested in winter landscaping as the E4 install is rather disappointing in this regard. Would be fun to get creative with growing food crops as well... Is Building Cleveland By Design being consulted for this project?

Cleveland: Moving to Detroit Shoreway, opinions?
Re: Biking. I live near the Battery Park neighborhood and biking is, IMO, the most viable transportation option for lots of neighborhoods including; Ohio City, Clifton-Edgewater, Tremont, & Downtown, which are all under 3 miles. Lakewood, Asia Town, and Cleveland State are all under 5 miles. I've never encountered a problem at the tunnel at W65 and it seems to get more and more popular with each passing year. The tunnel at W76 is definitely more sketchy, but it is not bike accessible anyways (stairs) and is slated for a full overhaul in the coming years. The transit options are a bit better in the DS than Tremont, with both the #26 & #45 servicing downtown and a RedLine stop about 10-15 minutes away (W.61 & Madison) Re: Detroit Ave, lots of new investment between W.58 and W73, see http://www.gordonsquare.org/ Overall, I'd highly recommend the area!

Cleveland: Downtown: Convention Center Atrium & Expansion
Nice piece by David Beach at GreenCityBlueLake on design guidelines to activate and green the Convention Center http://www.gcbl.org/planning/convention-center Also, is there any talk of integrating the current Amtrak station into the renovated convention center? I believe this idea was part of the Burnham mall plan.

e.4 needs trees to create nooks. i wonder how long it will take? i remember speaking to mr. maron back in 2005 when i was at CSU about the lack of trees and he replied that it is an urban street. even trees on wheels would be a huge improvement.

Cycling Advocacy
At yesterday's Cleveland Bicycle Week Conference, I learned that the IL Dept of Transportation allows 10' wide car lanes w/ 5' bike lanes to be constructed within the city limits of Chicago. That is a very narrow car lane and would have the effect of slowing down traffic. Although I'm not generally a huge supporter of bike lanes, I think I like this implementation b/c it slows down the cars.

Cleveland Hopkins International Airport
Wi-Fi at Hopkins. The following was recently posted on BrewedFreshDaily.com by Ed Morrison. Any comments from those that have used the service? ------- http://www.brewedfreshdaily.com/2009/fix-the-att-wifi-at-cle Ed Morrison · Fix the AT&T WiFi at CLE May 4th, 2009 Yesterday evening, a storm in Atlanta delayed my cflight out of Cleveland for about an hour. Thinking I could use the time to get some work done, I decided to hook into the AT&T wireless network at the airport. My decision was more than casual. About six months ago, I had given up on CLE’s wireless. But I thought I’d give it another try. Big mistake. This wireless network is the worst I’ve encountered in my travels. Download speeds blazed along at 7-9 KB/sec. The management at the airport clearly does not get it. They should try out the wireless at airports like Indianapolis, Kansas City, Chicago Midway, Atlanta, Baltimore, Milwaukee, Dallas, Shanghai. Even small airports like Cedar Rapids, Iowa; Manchester, NH; Boise Idaho; and Spokane, WA have better service. I suppose this situation is the cost of doing business the old Cleveland way. For years, CLE has been a cashbox for corruption. ---------------

could you be any more derisive of equity planning?! here's the other side(s) of the coin: -a few understudies of krumholz left for portland in the seventies to begin to apply principles of equity planning. -equity planning is intermingled with transit as mass transit is the most cost effective means of getting working class people to their jobs. the waterfront line does not move people to jobs, it moves tourists, which is likely the primary reason why krumholz was not a fan. does detroit's people mover transport people to jobs? not sure what you mean when you say 'people w/ money'
