Cleveland: Urban Gardens & Farms
I really like the idea of a 100+ acre farm in the city. There is something similar in Burlington, VT which several CLV city planners visited this past summer. Along with a working fruit, veggie, livestock, grain (hops too?) farm, I really really like the opportunities for co-housing, experiential education, and green business development on and around the farm, a sort of farm-land-laboratory.

Cleveland: Downtown: The 9 / Rotunda / County Admin Development
I think it was McCLV who talked about the critical importance of repurposing older space in our city center. It is through this logic that this new news has heightened my anticipation for this project. I'm much more keen on the results of our efforts to grow companies here, real CLV companies, rather than play the game of shuffling around old boy law and accounting firms, which is why I am excited about the potentially lower rents that will be charged for these overhauled spaces. As the new Cleveland begins to emerge, I'm excited by the possibilities of re-imagining existing space. Columbus has had lots of success re-imagining buildings through facade renovation & landscape design. I for one am excited to see that idea take off here in the CLV, whether as a product of necessity or choice. http://neighborhooddesign.org/web/projectportfolio.htm

Cleveland: University Circle (General): Development and News
University Circle townhouses to rise WXZ Development of Fairview Park is preparing to break ground on the first of four sets of townhouses in the University Circle area. Work on six homes in Circle 118 could start within the next month, said WXZ President Jim Wymer. those homes could be available by next summer, with the remaining 11 townhomes to be built based on buyer demand. Wymer said demand for new homes in the growing University Circle area makes the project possible, despite global economic tumult and problems in the housing market. The four-story townhouses, to be built at Euclid Avenue and East 118th Street, are aimed at health-care employees and other workers in University Circle. They are priced starting around $300,000 and include 15-year, 100 percent tax abatements. Circle 118 also is part of the Greater Circle Living Program, a forgivable-loan offer available to full-time employees of nonprofit institutions in and near University Circle.

somebody on UO is likely excited about this: via November 5 Plain Dealer (paper edition): Tower City Gets Jones New York Jones New York,a high-end women's retailer of apparel, shoes, hosiery, outerwear, and accessories, has opened a 4,400 square foot store on the second floor of Tower City Center in downtown Cleveland in the former Ann Taylor space next to Nine West. Cleveland: HealthLine / Euclid Corridor
^ all the BRT's running the EC will have fareboxes, solely as a last resort, just in case the fare boxes at the station(s) are not operating.
-
Cleveland: HealthLine / Euclid Corridor
RTA had a good idea in selling advertising space where the fare boxes back up against the glass part of the stations. is Medical Mutual currently the only example of that?

RE: Ameritrust & State Historic Tax Credits, what does this mean? > http://www.cleveland.com/entertainment/plaindealer/steven_litt/index.ssf?/base/entertainment-0/122405942229710.xml&coll=2 Ohio preservation office recommends tax credits for Ameritrust renovation Wednesday, October 15, 2008 Staff report The Ohio Historic Preservation Office has recommended that a developer's proposal to renovate the Ameritrust tower in downtown Cleveland should receive federal tax credits so a private developer can buy and renovate it. The credits could be worth $8 million to $10 million on a $133 million project, said developer Doug Price, chief executive of K&D Group. "It looks very encouraging," Price said Tuesday. "It's a critical part of making the project work financially." -Steven Litt

Cleveland Area TOD Discussion
I've always liked this idea, though I never knew Krumholz/Stokes considered it. It's a pretty good walk between the two existing stations, plus W41/44 is basically the heart of Ohio City, though Monroe, where the rapid tracks intersect, is a bit south of the ideal area. I think this idea deserves another look! Often times, it seems as if the redline is treated by RTA as a commuter line rather than a train connecting neighborhoods. For instance, how many of the stations have large parking lots within or near the station?

Cleveland: HealthLine / Euclid Corridor
i believe the univ circle concert was eliminated due to budget constraints. yes, there will be volunteer ambassadors aboard the vehicles during opening weekend. also, some other news from this morning's Community Advisory Board meeting: -Bus #7,9,32 will be running on the Euclid Corridor as soon as all said buses have the optican traffic signalization system installed as well as the docking arm (wheel) to enable use of the ECTP stations. -Redline trains will switch to Proof of Payment ticketing in December 08 -the ECTP will see the rollout of three types of ticketing related machines. a central kiosk which includes both ticketing and validation machines, a smaller machine solely for ticketing, and a stainless steel 'buck rogers' style ticket validation machine. IMO, the good news is that all ticketing machines on the ECTP and eventually on the Redline, will accept credit cards.
