Cleveland: Demolition Watch
Here's the demo I would love to see in Lakewood: The retail strip center between the Christian Science "Temple" and the Masonic "Temple" across Detroit Ave. from the Lakewood Library. There is a park that steps down in elevation behind the strip center. What a grand public space with those three buildings flanking a park.

Fortunately, not unlucky in love. Thanks to both of you for talking me out of one of my pet peeves. The LE turbine should knock our socks off.

Cleveland: Wind Turbine Construction News
I was going to refer to it as an exhibit and my point is that is how it fails. I live along the lake and there is usually a breeze/wind day or night. (I just stepped out on the balcony and there is, as usual, wind from the west.) I reread my post and confirmed that I didn't mention commercial production or fast spinning; just want it to do something and not just stand there. I make a point to observe it a lot, but will do so even more often and will report back. Maybe it's just shy and turns when I'm not looking. Trust me, I want it to be an inspiring exhibit.

Cleveland: Wind Turbine Construction News
I always thought the operation of the turbine at the Science Center almost does more harm than good. It is probably the most visible, but the blades are hardly ever turning & if so very slowly. Since it is short (Burke/FAA regs., I'm sure.) does the stadium protect it from prevailing winds? Is it turned off? Is it broken? It certainly encourages the anti-wind power camp.

Cleveland: Jack Cleveland Casino
HTS121, regarding your post on May 24th. A delayed difference of opinion here about the BP Building not replacing good buildings; we lost the Cuyahoga Building and the Williamson Building, which were both fully occupied and were great compliments to Public Square. The original plan was to place the then Sohio building behind Terminal Tower on Huron Rd., but Alton Whitehouse's mind was changed by others and was convinced Sohio simply had to be in a more prestigious location and that could only be on PS. Of course, the building design was changed as well.

Northeast Ohio: Regionalism News & Discussion
Reading the comments following articles on Cleveland.com can be scary, but when I checked the ones regarding the Parma & Parma Hts. safety depts. cooperation, all were either for it or pushing for bigger steps and/or mergers. Maybe, this is a case where the citizens are more ahead of game than their elected officials.

Cleveland: Detroit-Shoreway: Battery Park
Htsguy, there was money, but our last governor took it away for his pet "shovel ready" projects anywhere south of here with the promise to replace it later. Gosh, after that and several more examples of cutting the Cleveland area short, he couldn't figure out why he didn't carry Cuyahoga County by a large enough margin to carry him to win the State. He left office bitter at us; he thought/said he showed up here a lot. (I did see him at fundraisers, so I guess that counts.) As a lifelong Democrat I held my nose & voted for him, but it doesn't matter whether a (D) or a ®, from here or not, we get the same treatment. Once any governor gets introduced to the weight of the "Dispatch"/Wolfe family, et al cabal that is the pattern. In another thread there is the 6/12/11, PD article regarding ODOT's Jerry Wray saying a "majority" of the Turnpike lease money would go to northern Ohio. He threw out the Opportunity Corridor and the Inner Belt carrots. Wonder what his pitch is elsewhere in the State. They will burn through that $2.4 billion in the general fund like drunken sailors. (Think cigarette company money.) BTW, I am totally aware our skirts aren't clean in this long term situation: We have allowed weak leadership here and weak representation from here on the state and national level.

CLEVELAND - Going on a GIFT Cruise
Robert, I have lived at Winton Place a long long time and I have noticed the most freighter traffic this season. In past years it seemed they would come in one at a time, but this year I'm seeing that while one is leaving two more are approaching. Never tire of watching.

Cleveland: Downtown: Convention Center Atrium & Expansion
By the way, Steelcase is a great tenant to land, but 4,000 SF does not an "anchor tenant" make.

Cleveland: Downtown: Convention Center Atrium & Expansion
A lease signed prior to a financing commitment & actual construction completion will have timetables regarding those items and a tenant escape clause if they are not met.

Wow, I just read the above posts that came in while i was hunting & pecking my post (& talking on the phone). Mine has become moot, so never mind.

Cleveland: Demolition Watch
In commercial development the pattern seems to be "wait, wait, hurry up, wait, wait, hurry up". This major change to a major gateway to the city seems to be "hurry up, hurry up" with little discussion of options, etc. While I love to experience some sense of "hurry up" in this town, this is a sensitive issue with many repercussions. While we have this Kasich delay, can't a breath be taken and options be explored. This would include the design of the parking garage. (This town has the idea the a garage has to look like a garage; I have looked at garages to other cities for the past 25 years and trust me, they don't have to. The garage rendering offered is generic and could be dropped down from anywhere. A sexy skywalk, ala the recent pedestrian bridge designs at the harbor and UC, would take some of the sting out. And, while thrilled that the Higbee building will be utilized; what happened to Phase Two that it is being pushed back to 2015? This really diminishes the impact of a casino in Cleveland. I guess it is back to "wait, wait" for that really visual improvement to downtown and its gateway.

Today, I Overheard Someone in my City Say...
But, not at the expense of the items Hootenany listed; a private employer would "notice" and do something about the situation. At the end of the day the work would get done.

Cleveland: Random Quick Questions
Does anyone know the reason for the cost difference between these two recently completed projects: the Franklin County Courthouse in Columbus at $105mm and the Cuyahoga County Juvenile Justice Center in Cleveland at $189mm?

Cleveland: Edgewater Park
You know what, instead of muttering to myself everytime I pass the park, I will look up their number & call Monday morning. BTW, this is only the tip of my rant.

Cleveland: Random Development and News
Geez, how about replacing the low battery flashlight they have aimed at "Venus" on the corner of the Federal Courthouse; the cornice could certainly use a wattage goose as well. The lighting of this building looks like a tacked on afterthought.

Cleveland: Edgewater Park
One example of the State of Ohio's disregard for the maintenance of Edgewater Park is illustrated by this: Large tree limbs fell this Spring, but instead of removing them the "landscaping" crew just mows around them. I wonder if these limbs will be left for as many years as the huge pile of debris at the bottom of the hill. Last year I pulled tall weeds growing around tree trunks the crew let grow the whole season. A little care shouldn't cost that much.
