  1. Partially correct. If you are under 21 you wont be able to get to either the food court or the buffet.

^^ there are some places with free public transportation but they tend to be resort towns, like Vail, CO. Generally, I would imaging if a place has a substantial amount of tourists and can collect a good amount off property taxes then it can be done.

You could probably broadcast a wi-fi signal from your Android phone and connect the iPad to that, but I'd recommend against it. You'll be using your metered cell phone data plan and it'll be slower. You're much better off setting up a wifi network from your home Internet connection. Yeah, plus that would mean I would have to be home every time the ipad was used, which is not ideal. Not true, my wife last year bought an ipad as an anniversary present for us (really that meant for her). You can download books onto the ipad and access them while offline. There doesn't need to be a wifi connection all the time for all the apps. Also, as long as you have a high speed internet connection (should be a modem supplied by the cable company etc) you can plug a simple router from best buy into the ethernet port. If you do not have an internet connection at your home, then you are kinda SOL.
  4. Yes and yes. There are two entrances I think, one on the PS level right next to the main PS entrance, just inside, and one on the level below public square that I think goes into their Food Court. There is a ton of signage in TC directing people to the Casino as well.
  5. Folks hub fares will always be higher. In addition, you need to look at when you're buying a ticket and to what market. NYC [LGA & EWR]-CLE is one of CLE's top routes, so of course the price is going to be high on this business route. More importantly is what day you are trying to fly. If you are flying commuter time (Mon-Wed/Thur) airlines are going to charge significantly more as they know that the corporate office is going to pick up the tab in most cases. There is a larger disconnect between Price and Timing. Whereas if you look on weekend travel times the prices are significantly lower. It's amazing how much the prices change.
  6. ^ True, but I would think that most people will view enplanements as boardings at a specific destinations. This is one of the more impossible things to analyze across transportation modes. What I find more interesting is that both sets of service increased overall ridership (a 3.5% gain for the Capitol and a 6.2% gain for the Lake Shore). More amazing, Ohio increased ridership across the board with no state support and terrible timing of departures.
  7. I suspect they were removed for the exterior cleaning. Now that the cleaning is long since completed, I agree that they need to be brought back. They are still doing some restorative work on the outside of the building, especially the PS side. I think until that is completed they wont be back. Not sure if the Superior side is finished or not, but I don't think so.
  8. No on both. This new garage goes no further east than the existing City Hall garage. The precise alignment of this new deck with the City Hall deck tells me the city did that to create a development site all along East 9th here. BTW: I found this data interesting....... Ohio fact sheets on ridership at each station and a few of their largest contracts with Ohio businesses are shown at: http://www.amtrak.com/servlet/ContentServer?c=Page&pagename=am%2FLayout&cid=1246041980432 Lake Shore Limited (CHI-NYC/BOS) -- total FY2011 ridership: 387,043 Capitol Limited (CHI-WDC) -- total FY2011 ridership: 226,597 TOTAL FY2011 ridership on Amtrak trains through Cleveland: 613,640 SOURCE: http://tinyurl.com/4x8cpjj By Comparison: Cleveland-Hopkins International Airport -- number of enplanements: 4,704,329 Akron-Canton Regional Airport -- number of enplanements: 715,367 Erie International Airport -- number of enplanements: 126,778 Toledo Express Airport -- number of enplanements: 93,669 Youngstown-Warren Regional Airport -- number of enplanements: 17,391 SOURCES: http://www.ranker.com/list/all-ohio-airports/american-airports http://www.erievitalsigns.org/view_enplanements.html KJP, those are kind of misleading stats. Boarding traffic from Cleveland Amtrak was 46,416. Granted this was middle of the night activity and I'm sure that if it were available during a more convenient time you could more than triple that amount. Also, it has been stated elsewhere that traffic at CLE is roughly 70% O&D, so about 3,200,000 was local. This is a more useful number to compare than the amount of passengers that passed through Cleveland on Amtrak. As after all there most likely isn't any layover happen at the Amtrak station.
  9. Well, if the Crew keep losing I don't think the attendance jump they have received will remain. This is an interesting article as unless you can get to the NFL popularity level stadium placement is a big driver of attendance. http://www.soccernewsday.com/usa/a/131/mls-stadium-locations-attendance-comparison MLS Stadium Locations & Attendance Comparison Comparing distances of MLS stadiums from their urban cores with recent club attendance figures This week I decided to compile some statistics on something that always seems to come up in MLS: the current attendance per club stats and the location of their stadiums in regards to those trends. This time we see how the distance per club and the classifications of those distances may (or may not) affect overall attendance.
  10. The Flags along Ontario are fine, probably right size for that stretch. It's the ones that are currently over the entrances that are ridiculous. Way, WAY, to small.
  11. In regard to the flags. They used the same size flags on the giant flag poles at the PS and Prospect entrances as those along Ontario. It has the effect of making the flag seem extremely small. Really needs to be much larger on these two spots.
  12. You probably already know this, especially if you've been in the restaurant biz before, but Lunches are the red headed step child of dining. Especially as you move higher up on the restaurant food chain. It's where you place your new staff for them to get their feet wet before bringing them into the "Big Show". Also, most servers (at least I know I did when I worked them) don't treat them with a lot of focus either. Lunch is always a hit or miss proposition in my book.
  13. Re: Potbelly. Lots of drywall being delivered and hung. Shouldn't be too long until they open. I would guess end of May with they pace they are going.
  14. Awnings are going up. No pics as I forgot my phone, but they look pretty much exactly like the renderings. Also, they removed the scrolling LED from the PS side of the building and seems like they are working on the canopy there as well. May 15th is going to be here sooner than we think.
  15. I was trying to figure this out with the wife a few days ago as she has co-workers from Philly coming in for the RRHOF inductions and they want to watch the Flyers game. Basically the options are as follows: Corner Alley Harry Buffalo Cadillac Ranch Winking Lizard Panninis (E9th) Clevelander City Tap We decided that Clevelander, City Tap, and Corner Alley were the best of those. We personally hate that Winking Lizard as it is a freaking maze. I've never been in Cadillac Ranch, and want to keep it that way, so can't really comment. Harry Buffalo has some of the slowest service DT. Pannini's is OK, but the one on E9th I don't think is really set up for it.
  16. It is Strongsville...not exactly an exciting urban atmosphere anywhere in the burb. Nope, which is why I went in with low expectations. I was still very underwhelmed. Maybe I should rephrase, even for Strongsville the atmosphere is terrible. The food make up for it so just close your eyes and eat some delicious pasta.
  17. CBRE is listing the May Co. building as for lease right now, but based on their Flyers it does not seem that the office floors of the Building are available. Most of the space appears to be in the 2025 Ontario Building. Here is the listing: http://looplink.natl.cbre.com/xNet/Looplink/Profile/Profile.aspx?stid=cbre7&LID=17596134&LL=true&UOMListing=&UOMMoneyCurrency=&RentPer=PY&SRID=2519597993 and the flyers: http://www.loopnet.com/Attachments/4/A/1/4A1A007F-7195-48DE-B6D4-6EC0512A45A3.pdf http://www.loopnet.com/Attachments/D/E/7/DE7E2EB7-39C9-4DF8-9830-2462FBC0771B.pdf
  18. The Wife and I went to DC Pasta, Dante Boccuzzi's new place in Strongsville, and I have to say that the food was pretty darn good. They've only been open for maybe 2 months now, but everything seemed to be flowing well. The server did say that they are going to be introducing some dinner specials soon (none at the time of our visit) and playing around with some more seasonal foods. The great thing about their menu in my opinion is their $5 taste's of pasta. It's a great way to try a lot of new and interesting pastas/flavors. The space/atmosphere is terrible though as it is in an oddly shaped plaza off Pearl Rd. It was terrible when it was Palate too, so I don't think anything interesting can be done in that regard. But cheap wine (25 bottles all under $25) can make things look better for sure.
  19. Well that sucked. Crew got rocked by the Red Bulls. http://www.massivereport.com/2012/4/8/2933589/columbus-vs-new-york-match-recap#storyjump Columbus vs. New York (Match Recap) by Aaron Katzeman on Apr 8, 2012 9:23 AM EDT Thierry Henry and Kenny Cooper proved to be too much for Columbus on Saturday. Each scored twice in the 4-1 beating the New York Red Bulls gave to the Crew.
  20. My God, I'm turning into my parents! They once looked at me as if I was speaking Swahili when I explained to them what my Murata fax machine in 1990 could do, or my new 1mb computer with a 56K modem in 1995 could do! I just made the same face as they once did, and probably felt the same way as I did while reading your post. I haven't added an app to my phone since I bought it (er, traded in the old for the new) last summer. I won't pay for apps either, and I'm really not interested in using my phone for anything more than making phone calls, taking pictures and keeping from falling behind on work-related e-mails. So when someone says I can use my phone to scan something, that's just too bizarre for me to even contemplate. And I'm 44 years old. How many transit riders older than me do you think would take to using their phones to scan something? And if you force technology on people who aren't ready for it or don't want it, expect an angry response. I honestly think you would be greatly surprised at what people, even those over the hill (hahaha), will and do do with their phones. Yes there are some that will keep a simple "dumb" phone, or not use all the features of a smart phone (KJP), but having the option available to those that want to use it would be great. The more important part for RTA is that there is not much upkeep than making sure that the pathway for the QR code is current. This should be simple programming that an intern could do. Also, this is in no way to try and replace the hard copy maps. And I do think, as others have made this point, that in larger tourist/congregation areas (TC, Rock Hall, CSU) a physical map would make sense. But for stops inbetween I think the simple QR code would add a lot. Additionally it is something that could add a significant amount of value if deployed system wide, at least at shelters not every pole. I'm not sure their signage can do colors. I thought it was monotone. Maybe the lines need to be renamed in a way that makes more sense with their locations.
  21. Wouldn't E4th and Euclid pretty much fit this description in its current form?? Does it need more retail and less restaurants, sure, but I think that this stretch is mostly there already.
  22. I never noticed they're color-coded -- I had to go down to the street to see for myself! Yep, you're right! But I don't see what color on the buses they correspond with. By looking at the bus, what is its color coding? Yeah that is the issue there is no color coding on the bus. I think Baltimore has a similar system of buses that run around, and those buses do match the coloring. Seems like there could be a few options for making the colors line up with the buses. Scan the code -- with what? A smart phone? What kind of device could do that? How many transit passengers could afford it? I don't even understand it, let alone be able to afford it. Yes a smart(er) phone, an ipod (if its able to get a data connection), really anything with a camera and a data connection. Also, you can get some of the older versions for fairly cheap, or free now that enough models have passed. The biggest issue is going to be the data portion, but those can be managed. Scanning the code is fairly simple in that with a free app you point the camera at the code, line it up and boom it takes you to the route schedule. I actually think you are underrating most of the transit passengers and their understanding of technology. Its not the a solution for everyone obviously, but usually there is no silver bullet. Don't let perfect get in the way of good.
  23. The signs for the trolleys are currently color coded. Green for the E-Line, red for the B-line. They are also colored as such on RTA's downtown map. However the signs seem to be located pretty high on whatever pole they are attached to. Ideally they would be more closer to 6-7 feet off the ground so they could easily be seen while walking. With the new trolley service RTA wants to introduce they were talking about including new and improved signs for all trolley routes. Additionally, and I think this is most important, they were looking into using QR codes on the poles the signs are attached to. Scan the code and it brings up a map and timetable for the stops. I think this would be an amazing thing to use at all stops system wide. Then any route changes could be immediatly posted to the embedded website as opposed to a physical map having to be replaced at all stops.
  24. Per the MLS injury report he is not listed as OUT: http://sports.yahoo.com/mls/news;_ylt=Ajo.9XjFBq776FtiCCnMgUVL0bYF?slug=mlsinjury Can't guarantee he'll play but its better than being listed on that report.
  25. NYRB back line is atrocious, while their skill in the attacking third is probably one of the best in the league. If anyone is a mild soccer fan and wants to see a high scoring game, this is the one to go to. The Crew's back line is much better than Montreal, not hard to be though quite honestly. I think Henry or Cooper will get a goal, but between Gaven, Duka, et al the crew will get at least two (hopefully more). NYRB have not played well on the road and I see that continuing.
