Cutting Cable
It's a very complicated Matrix. I can't even explain to you guys how this works. As a film studio you want to protect and promote your product brand. Having someone else do that, while they are competing against you isn't best. This is why I'm surprised that networks/studios haven't created their own channels, especially as Roku is set up to charge for channels. Even if you want to make it a subscription based service, instead of a one time access fee, that is the same model as Hulu. I guess it is just suprising that there seems to be a demand for this service yet no one is able to offer it right now. I'm sure most of this is due to how contracts for various shows/distribution is written. Hopefully as more of those come up for renewal more streaming options will be available. Now answer this? Who owns Hulu? Who is Roku's biggest partner? Right I know that NBC/Universal and FOX own Hulu, but I was thinking more along the lines of ESPN and other typical cable channels creating a streaming option. It seams like it would be in their interest as they would bypass the cable companies, who presently act as gate keepers. Never realized that Roku was originally developed at Netflix. Read here about the founder. Although I have a feeling you knew that already. I could see why certain companies would not create channels, such as TNT. It wouldn't really make sense to create a streaming channel that would compete against the in house cable brand. Hopefully AMC will be creating a channel now that they have been spun off from NBC (I think). I want to watch zombies again. edit: just found that Disney/ABC et al has an equity stake in hulu as well. Sounds like they could be the only option that is needed streaming wise to compete with cable. Well at least if ou can pick up the CBS station OTA

Me in Cinci, that right there is a "funny"! HA! 8) Hey at least I saw the light and got out. But yeah for the most part all those lines are true. HUH? You lost me with that one. I grew up in Cincy, went to college in Dayton, then moved to Cleveland.

^ Want to be really upset for paying for cable... check this out While this doesn't give the whole picture, it does shed some light on what you are paying for (or not paying for) in your cable bill.

Cleveland: Lakefront Development and News
Speaking of which we looked into holding the reception for our wedding at CBS, very briefly as it was crazy expensive. But I am sure that there are a large number of events that are held in the stadium each year. It looks like they basically make the whole stadium available,a nd as there is no schedule who knows how much use it is actually getting.

Cleveland: Lakefront Development and News
Not unless we suddenly became as soccer crazy as England. The new stadiums over there are similar size and design of most football stadiums. New England Revelation play in Gillette Stadium (Kraft owns the team so it make sense from a business standpoint) and it is incredibly empty due to it is designed to hold 65K+, instead of the 10K or so that show up (NE is a terrible team and Gillette stadium is in a terrible location, average attendance is around 17K across the league). I think Seattle holds their games in the Seahawks Stadium, but they are crazy for their futbol there. I think they get upwards of 35K to each game.

Cleveland: Perk Park Renovation
I'm not sure about that, even. I ate lunch there today, and was trying to figure out what time of the day/year they would actually shade the seats underneath. They certainly aren't properly aligned to provide shade for very much of the day, and it may not even match up with the summer lunchtime hours. Even if they do, because of the alignment of the slats, they may only provide partial shade. I'm thinking they will be best aligned with the sun at about 9-10:00 am, but that's far from the peak need for shade. I believe the idea was to have vegetation growing along the trellis to provide the shade.

Cleveland: changing attitudes about the city vs inner ring vs outer suburbs
When the article appears in the "North Royalton Community Blog" you should already be expecting the worst. Not even sure I would classify this as real reporting either

Cleveland: Jack Cleveland Casino
Doesn't sound like it was the same company; Cleveland Cement was used up here, while Messer Construction is cited in the recent article in Cincy. Still could have been Cleveland Cement and Messer was acting as a General Contractor though. However, it does just feel fishy.

Cleveland: Cleveland State University: Development and News
Its mainly just people stuck in their ways. Next year a new freshman class will arrive, never accustomed to parking north of chester, and the South Garage will be just part of their experience, and they wont think anything of it. This will continue for the next couple years. Older students will either continue to bitch, or just adjust. But eventually they will all graduate, transfer, or drop out and the issue will die. And then CSU will get the idea that this deviation from their roots is acceptable and periodically eliminate more of its convenient parking garages to get in on the big game of SimsCity-Northeast Ohio. I can only imagine what they're cookie up for the spaces that is the Communications lot which is in the heart of campus. If they were really listening to the needs of students, they'd just go ahead and tear down the old Viking Hall and make that block a parking garage. Heck it would even line up almost perfectly for a skywalk that connected to the student center. Yes, but unfortunately 18-22 year olds don't have the best long term decision making ability. I know for sure I didn't and I would think you may agree in that regard. And really I can't believe you are actually complaining about the walk from the south garage to campus. That time since walking down to class (and back again) from Stuart Hall at UD must have softened you.

Cleveland Rapid Rail Construction Projects (Non-Service Issues)
This is what I do. And if the weather is a pain (like this morning with the heavy snow) I grab the HL as there is one waiting. The E-Line is good, and I will grab it if it shows up while walking by, but the HL is great to jump on as they tend to stop over in front of TC for a bit before moving on. Great to get out of the Rain/Snow. I think there are good many Blue/Green line stops that don't have parking. So if that was what Foraker was riding it may have made more sense to drive.

Ugh, this transition is going to be tough. Hulu Plus is not all its cracked up to be. I can understand the commercials even though you are paying for a subscription, but what really drives me nuts is the content that is available on plain Hulu is not available on Hulu Plus, ie Happy Endings and Suburgatory. Extremely annoying. Good thing that there is a free trial week because I don't think it will make it through that. re: using a tablet, we have an iPad 2 so I think we are going to be purchasing the HDMI connector, which at $40 is a pretty good deal. That should allow us to watch all those NBC and ABC programs (suprisingly we don't watch anyting on FOX) now if CBS would get out of their 2000 era technology we would be perfect.

Cutting Cable
I'm glad you brought this up. I don't think it's a coincidence that the Tribe has lost popularity since leaving Channel 43. Obviously not the only factor, but certainly helped further the disconnect. Personal example, I remember one summer I had to wait until July to get to the Jake. I remember being shocked to find out OF Jason Michaels was a white guy! p.s. lots of good info on this thread. I've been without cable since 01 and I get by just fine over the airwaves, plus european sites for sports, youtube (watched the entire wire series on there) and friends netflix account. Luckily, neither of us really care about baseball. Ohh we'd go to the ballpark and what have you but it is one thing I cannot stand to watch on television. surf, what you mention about watching a youtube and european sites for sports needs a computer hooked up to your tv. We are not going that route. I really do wish that ESPN had a ESPN3 app or something. I have access because WOW (we are keeping them for internet and phone) has a deal. I don't think I'd have access to sportscenter but just having all the games (and one's I'd actually want to watch) would be spectacular. Anyway good that this thread popped up, reminded me that I do need to actually call and cancel the cable.

Cleveland to Canada Ferry
^ it may depend on the size of the ferry. Between the Mather, the transient marina that is to go in and the bridge connecting the Voinovich Park there might not be room for the ferry to make the needed maneuvers. Now if the Mather was moved to the other side of the pier then I think that spot would be perfect for a terminal.

Cleveland: Downtown Aquarium
I don't think that is a wholesale dismissal. I plan on visiting as I love aquariums and I hope GCA does well as its great for the city to finally have a marine facility. My complaint is that its overpriced compared to other similar venues and I'd rather support non-profits. The Family Pass sounds great but not when you compare it to other aquariums or zoos. Its a poor deal if you analyze it that way. I also think many tourists coming to our fair city will consider it a disappointment since they are charging so much for so little. Again, I'm comparing it to similar venues. The basic Shedd Aquarium admission is only $6 more than what GCA is charging. I find that bizarre and I believe tourists will feel like they are getting ripped off. Its easy to say you can't compare GCA to Shedd, Newport, etc, because of age and other factors but let's face it, most tourists ARE going to compare it that way. They want value for their money and I think GCA fails there. If you are going to build a small aquarium, price it that way, not as a mega marine center. I think the problem here is similar to one that Ski Resorts in the area have. There are a lot of fixed costs that have to be covered regardless. For example Boston Mills costs $41 for a day pass. This hill doesn't go beyond 300 ft. Kissing Bridge, about 3hr away and likely less, is $45. They have a vertical of over 500 ft. The reason that Boston Mills charges about the same amount is that making snow is expensive. Probably on the same scale as making Salt Water to the proper pH levels.

If your TV is downstairs, and the computer is upstairs, are you running back and forth to change the program ever hour/half hour? Must be a really nice workout... :D

Cutting Cable
I did get an antenna, and last night got it positioned to pick up Channel 19. Because we are close to the towers, hell I can see them out my back door, I just have a small indoor antenna. The signal is not terribly strong (I think WKYC has the strongest) but it is able to be picked up. Now I just need to figure out if this is the best spot or use another and then route it to the other TV's. One thing that is making more complex is replacing the DVR. Right now there is nothing really good on the market for just working with OTA stations. Tivo is good, but at $20 a month I don't think is worth it. I mean the whole point was to lower the bill not replace it. One interesting product was displayed as CES this year: https://www.simple.tv/ It is a relatively cheap stand alone DVR. You have to provide your own external storage and it only has one tuner, but with Hulu Plus I really only need it for CBS programming. And $5 optional monthly service is a bargin as well.

Cutting Cable
Well as cable costs have kept creeping up its time to cut the cord. I think this will save me about $80 a month. The Wife and I found that between skiing in the winter and boating we just don't watch that much TV. Plus these are expensive habits so something had to go. We purchased a Roku to stream TV show through Hulu Plus, but where I am having an issue is with the over the air channels. I didn't think this would be much of a problem as I live in Middleburg...@6 mi away from all the transmission towers. Most indoor antenna's recommend that you be with in 10 mi. Well Channel 19 doesn't want to be added to my television. Which is an absolute pain as CBS is the only affiliate that isn't on Hulu. I was wondering if anyone has ever gone through with this and what their experience was like.

Cleveland Rapid Rail Construction Projects (Non-Service Issues)
Yep, that's what I have been doing for 3 yrs now. Walking to 6th and Euclid is very doable, even when there is 6 in of snow. I would imagine it is tougher to do all the way yo Playhouse Sq. but the Trolly buses run often enough in the morning and afternoon that getting around is pretty easy.

Cleveland: Downtown & Vicinity Residences Discussion
Between them and the Holiday Inn I think that is the entire building, which I'm not sure if it is the 1896 building or the addition. Now the actual building on Euclid and 6th, where PNC Investments used to be, is empty. Besides the bank branch I don;t think there is anything in that building. As far as I know it is not on the market either. Which is a shame and a blessing, at least it cant be demo'd into a parking lot. It would be another interesting property to be converted into apartments...

Weather
Not mine :( :( We are having to jump through hoops and pray to snow gods in order to keep our Ski Race Season going. Additionally there are a few ski resorts in the area (Peek n' Peak, and I think Boston Mills is always questionable year to year) that have been having financial trouble in the past few years. These warm temps with no natural snow is going to make surviving a serious concern.
