Trip to Washington DC.
Front Page - The Brunch was really really really good back in the day. Not sure how it is now Grill Fish Georgia Browns - The Brunch is insane - in a good way The Diner Annie Paramount (only good after the club) Urbana Pesce Blue Duck Komi MTS I wanted to let you know that we did end up taking your advice this time, because we all need to overinflate your ego afterall. Had dinner at Blue Duck and it was fantastic, expensive but fantastic. Also, in a strange coincidence we also ate at Urbana. We were meeting up with some friends in Dupont Circle area. They were coming from over in Alexandria, we were going out to Adams Morgan later, and as I wasn't sure of their schedule I told them to pick dinner. I think Blue Duck was better than Urbana, but both were pretty darn good. So we may have ignored you completely as to recommendations in NYC, but I feel we made up for it in DC. Ha ;)

Cleveland: General Business & Economic News
Hey they are my back burner "job" in the event I lose my job. LOL So a brotha has done his homework! In '09, I almost made the jump. At least if you do go over there we can expect some better dressed athletes. Some of the things you se these guys out in is embarressing. Although it does prove the point that money doesn't change your personality, it just allows you to show more of it (for better and worse).

Your thinking of J. Bella. Which if you do get seated their food is pretty good. Not mind blowing good by any means. And I do think their service leaves something to be desired.

Cleveland: Random Development and News
There are banners up in the old Sushi 86 place for a Southern Cuisine place. They indicate opening in Fall 2011, but I have yet to see any actual work besides the banners.

CLEVELAND: What one "speculative" project would you like to see built?
The Lakefront Development floated by the Browns (probably one of the most speculative developments out there). After going to Baltimore this past weekend and seeing their Inner Harbor it really brought to light how much there is that can be done on the water. This land is practically there for the taking, pretty sure the Port has agreed in concept. I think as much as the PS tower would change perceptions, getting something built on the lake would do more.

Greater Cleveland RTA News & Discussion
I did see these spots this morning. However I had thought that originally thought there were supposed to be 25 dedicated spots. I saw maybe 10, none of which were in use. It is great that RTA offers this service, I just want to clarify whether, due to demand, spots have been left open for now. Thanks Jerry.

Greater Cleveland RTA News & Discussion
Jerry, could you point out exactly where these spots are. I did not see any signs about overnight stays. I will admit that I was going to work and was not looking extremely hard, however I did see the security cam so I believe I was in the right area. To the right as you exit the station, facing east, past the bus shelter.

Cleveland Browns Discussion
Yeah, bad calls happen to and for a team all the time. There's no excuse for the poor tackling and the outright lack of speed this team has. Our weak points as a team are our age at LB, This means that those drag routes by the TE's or RB's should draw special attention from safeties or they need to start playing the nickle on basic sets in order to make up for this. There are adjustments that can be made and that would be made by a good coach. And not to be angry and hateful, but I really do HATE it when people play the "if" card. "IF" the Browns didn't give up that pick 6 and IF the Browns didn't try that trick play and IF the Browns didn't try a stupid misdirection play on a 4th and 1. IF IF IF....How about IF the Browns were a real NFL team with NFL talent we may have a shot at beating someone someday? But to be honest, this loss is a good thing, that's just one more loss to go towards what our ultimate goal should be, and that's to draft Andrew Luck in the draft next year. Are we even sure that Luck is the best thing for the Browns?? Yes he is a great college QB, but there are a good number of those that never amount to anything in the NFL. The Browns need a playmaking WR (Little's good, but not Calvin/Andre Johnson good) like Blackmon. That is who they should be targeting in next years draft. If they draft Luck he is still going to have the same crappy WRs to throw to. After WR, target LB and CB along with OL and DL depth. There are plenty of pieces on this team. Just not enough to make a difference yet.

KJP thanks, I had thought Puritas was one but could not find anything about it. I have normally been parking there as construction along Brookpark Rd. makes getting out of the parking lot a pain. I'll have to look around to see if there is a specific area tonight.

Has anyone ever left a car at a rapid station when flying out of CLE? I have a 4:30 flight on Thursday and wont be coming back until Mon. evening. Usually when flying, my in-laws will drop me off (I live pretty close to the airport afterall), but most likely that wont be able to work due to the time. Any one have any experience doing this?

Greater Cleveland RTA News & Discussion
The three car train leaving TC around 4:30 was most definitely packed. I think at this point you had both games riding home and was much more congested than in the morning (9:30 am train for tailgaiting is usually full but not packed). But it was good to have the three car trains, otherwise it would have been absolute chaos getting home, as opposed to only minor chaos ;)

Cleveland: Warehouse District: Development and News
Not so sure that making the capital outlay to build on those lots in what a good businessman would do. there are a host of other questions that would need to be answered before the obvious solution is to build. Specificaly what is the ROI. What is the cost of financing. The biggest problem though may be the margins that are generated right now compared to what the margins would be if the site is improved. Right now it is fairly inexpensive to park there due to supply, but the associated costs are ridiculously low. Besides property taxes, a maintenance contract (snow removal, general cleanup after weekeds, etc), and a minimum wage security job there isn't much outflow. This results in some pretty good margins. Improving the lot would increase the revenue no doubt, but would also increase the costs as well. Probably to the point where their margin suffers. The question a good businessman has to ask is does the outlay and decreased margin (which would be compounded as there would be more use and therefore more revenue) outweigh the higher margin but lower revenue. This question, along with the lack of available financing right now is what is likely holding up Weston's development plan, more likely the financing though.

Freight Railroads
Interesting read regarding what can happen when a company has access to only one rail line. http://features.blogs.fortune.cnn.com/2011/09/13/showdown-on-the-railroad/?iid=HP_LN Railroads: Cartel or free market success story? With 90% of U.S. rail freight now controlled by only four companies, shippers claim the giants have unfairly banded together. Unapologetic railroads refuse to back down. An epic battle of business vs. business. From the roof of M&G Polymers' factory in Apple Grove, W.Va., the freight trains on the ground look like children's toys. Several hundred cars wait to be filled with tiny pellets destined to become plastic containers. Every evening, M&G workers send the loaded cars to the main tracks operated by the freight carrier CSX. There they latch onto long trains like dancers joining a conga line. Looking down, the traffic appears seamless -- a quick handoff between producer and transporter. On the ground, though, the relationship is far more fraught.

Its a ranch house. Its a win-win from an architectural stand point! Just be happy no lives were lost. It was funnier before it was updated. Initially there was no story, just the picture and the caption.

Trip to Washington DC.
So we were out last night with a friend who used to live in DC and she recommended to the wife that shopping in Georgetown would be a great thing to do. She also recommended Sequoia for dinner over there, thoughts? Also, Georgetown has a web site set up with a list of all the shops and everything, but it doesnt seem like Dupont Circle has anything similar. Besides walking by the embassies is there anything specific in the area we should go to, or better just wandering. Also, a couple other recommendations for dinners would be nice. Not necessarily fine dining places either, sometimes after walking around all day Beer and Burger places are great.

Who is holding back passenger rail more right now; certain railroads or governors? Or is that just a chicken v egg problem.

Columbus Crew Discussion
^ Yeah I would not be surprised if we had a West v. West Championship game. MLS really needs to get rid of the cross over from the different conferences. Hopefully once they add the second NY team (at least that is the rumored 20th team) they can eliminate that. In better news, the crew has locked up their coach to a new contract. Considering that this year the Crew was expected to do less than nothing all of their success has to reflect back onto Warzyca. http://espn.go.com/sports/soccer/news/_/id/6917789/mls-soccer-columbus-crew-robert-warzycha-agree-multiyear-deal Crew, Robert Warzycha agree on deal COLUMBUS, Ohio -- The Columbus Crew have reached agreement with third-year coach Robert Warzycha on a new multiyear contract.

If Des Moines can publish their GPS data to the web with that system, there's no excuse we shouldn't be (especially if RTA has already purchased the software and already has the GPS installed). Yes, the website is clunky and in general pretty much sucks, but it's still a million times better than having nothing. That may be why we haven't seen anything yet. As RTA is likely their biggest customer they may be suggesting that a new web interface be created. Call it learning from the POS/Vending machine fiasco.

Greater Cleveland RTA News & Discussion
My guess regarding this is that Trapeze ITS is already their vendor, they provide the GPS info that RTA uses. It is usually cheaper to have the company that is doing the backend information to do the front end too, if they have the capability. Granted Trapeze WebWatch does appear to be extremely clunky as Urbanlife said.

Greater Cleveland RTA News & Discussion
Its not quite that simple. There are entire companies built around providing this service. There are a vast amount of variables than need to be decided before something like this can be rolled out. Such as, are all routes shown or just a handful? If just a handful, which ones. Does the system show just the location or when the bus is stopped as well. And a boat load of other questions. Then there is also what type of system is currently being used to track the buses/rail and is it compatible with whatever front end application is being used. If not that creates another layer that has to be added on before the information even makes it to the Flash map. In short, its never as easy as it looks.

Cleveland: Festivals, Music Concerts, & Events
Cincinnati has their Oktoberfest (largest in USA) right in the heart of Downtown. They close 5th St for 3-4 blocks. It is truely one thing I miss, the fact that Cleveland does not seem to have any street festivals Downtown. It would be great to close down PS (like they are doing for the 9/11 concert) and have the festival there.
