tedders55 replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Restaurants, Local Events, & EntertainmentIts the most airtime on any coaster, which is kinda a big deal for some people. It is a big deal, at least for me. I love me some air-time. I was just making an observation about how they market them. It seems like a bad-ss[/member] coaster, I've just noticed how specific the records are when they're promoting the latest coaster as amusement parks do with any other. The name... well, I'm not going to say any more. Yeah.... Ehh, I understand your point and its really like what any company does when they do something new; find the most ways to make it stand out with quick bullet points. The more important stats are the park wide/overall records. The Air Time and Most Coasters over 200 ft I think are big ones to note. Also, I don't know if they will ever get the "most coasters" title again. Even with this ride they have 18 coasters, Six Flags Magic Mountian has 19, so either MM needs to lose one or CP needs to go for two. Now their 150th anniversary is in 2020 so who knows what they may pull off for that.

Also, something I found after looking into their season passes, they are now offering a pre-k pass. This is a free pass for 3-5 year olds. You need to register online, and prove they are that age (copy of Birth Certificate works) the first visit, but still pretty good for those of us with small children.

Cedar Point
tedders55 replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Restaurants, Local Events, & EntertainmentCedar Point just had their announcement of the Mean Streak - RMC conversion. Press Release: https://www.benzinga.com/pressreleases/17/08/n9940217/tallest-fastest-wildest-cedar-point-introduces-entirely-new-classificat The Wildest Ride Cedar Point Has Ever Built Steel Vengeance will offer riders unmatched intensity through a relentless series of dynamic movements on this innovative coaster. Riders will board one of three trains and climb 205 feet above FrontierTown. Once they crest the lift hill, they'll be staring straight down a 90-degree initial drop and a 200-foot fall to earth. Multiple airtime hills follow, including the world's fastest airtime hill ever created on a hybrid roller coaster, and a 116-foot-tall outer-banked hill placing riders on an outward tilt while moving forward. Steel Vengeance will also debut the first-of-its-kind "Twisted Snake Dive." In this new maneuver, the coaster's train will enter a half-barrel roll, hang upside-down for a brief moment and then turn back in the direction of travel, not completing a full roll. The coaster's figure-eight layout will create a fast-paced journey with multiple airtime hills, twists and dives, overbanked turns and surprise maneuvers. The entire ride will last approximately 2 minutes, 30 seconds. "This is another roller coaster that only Cedar Point could build – tallest, fastest and longest of its kind with four inversions and the exciting movements the hybrid design can achieve," said Jason McClure, vice president and general manager of Cedar Point. "There are so many unexpected moments on Steel Vengeance, it's just plain twisted. It'll be an extremely wild experience for our guests." The World's First "Hyper-Hybrid" Steel Vengeance introduces a new classification of roller coaster – the "hyper-hybrid." The coaster not only combines a hybrid construction of smooth steel track set atop a wood support structure, but also reaches a height of over 200 feet – the defining feature of a "hyper-coaster." It marks the fourth classification of roller coaster introduced by Cedar Point as the park's ever-higher roller coasters have needed new categories to define them. Previous roller coasters that were world's firsts include Magnum XL-200 – a "hyper-coaster," a term given to any roller coaster that breaks a 200-foot height; Millennium Force – the world's first "giga-coaster," a coaster eclipsing a 300-foot height; and Top Thrill Dragster – the world's first "strata-coaster," soaring over 400 feet tall. Another World Record Breaker With the addition of Steel Vengeance, Cedar Point will once again shatter both roller coaster and amusement park records. These records include: World's tallest hybrid roller coaster (205 feet) World's fastest hybrid roller coaster (74 mph) World's steepest drop on a hybrid roller coaster (90 degrees) World's longest drop on a hybrid roller coaster (200 feet) World's longest hybrid roller coaster (5,740 feet) Most inversions on a hybrid roller coaster (4) Fastest airtime hill on a hybrid roller coaster (73 mph) Most airtime on a hybrid roller coaster (27.2 seconds) Most airtime on any roller coaster (27.2 seconds) World's first "hyper-hybrid" roller coaster Most roller coaster track at one amusement park (60,423 feet/11.4 miles) Most steel roller coaster track at one amusement park (57,865 feet/11 miles) Most roller coasters over 200 feet tall at one amusement park (6) Most rides at one amusement park (71) Most roller coasters with a first drop of 90 degrees or more at one amusement park (5) Steel Vengeance is being constructed by the roller coaster engineers and builders at Rocky Mountain Construction, an Idaho company that specializes in the reconstruction and re-imagination of traditional wooden roller coasters. They're Coming. But Who Are "They?" Throughout the summer of 2017, the park released clues about the ride on social media, all referencing the word, "they." The story of Steel Vengeance will be told through three new outlaws who have banded together to "unsaddle" the reign of Maverick, FrontierTown's low-to-the-ground, double-launching roller coaster. Throughout the winter months, guests will learn more about Jackson "Blackjack" Chamberlain, Chess "Wild One" Watkins and Wyatt "Digger" Dempsey. So there is also a rumor that they will be making updates to FrontierTown with this coaster (needed), and from that last paragraph I'm wondering if that means the addition of some smaller flat rides. Another rumor is that Kings Island is getting the Antique Cars back, and as Cedar Point has two the thought is that the ones back there may be leaving.

Greater Cleveland RTA News & Discussion
Honestly, I don't think $1.00 more for parking will make people switch. Transit ridership seems to increase when fuel prices increase dramatically. Low fuel prices means more drivers. IMHO Or when driving and parking becomes more of a hassle, which is why I wish FEB Phase 3 could get started and close that big surface lot in the middle of the complex. Unfortunately it doesn't appear Phase 3 is happening anytime soon, so all those E&Y workers will continue park their cars and walk across WFL tracks next to the rapid station despite the often convenience of a Rapid line near them with the abundance of free RTA lot parking. Some E&Y workers opt for WFL trains, but not nearly enough. When/If either Nucleus or Weston's projects get going I think we could see an increase in the number of transit riders. While both will include parking garages they wont immediately be available and will reduce parking in the interim. Once people change their habits it will be harder to go back as well.

^ correct, I drive one day a week and noticed after I paid that the price had increased. This is the lot at Superior and W9th, and has seen two $.50 increases in the last 9 months. I'm just thankful that I only have to do it once a week.

Housing Market & Trends
Sounds like my 108 year-old wooden house. I had monster utility bills, with high gas in the winter, high electricity in the summer. Adding exterior wall insulation took about 15% off the bills. New windows, the real surprise, took about 30% off. Yeah I have zero insulation. I've gotten a couple quotes--they were crazy expensive, and due to the construction of my house the first floor can't really be done without risking blowing out all the plaster/lathe walls (basically on furring strips attached to the brick). Are you Cleveland-based? Who did you use for insulation? My house is 92 and also has zero insulation, but does have new windows. In fact when we were looking at homes it was one of the specific things we were looking for. I am also curious about who you used for insulation as it is one of the next projects I would like to tackle.

Cleveland: Retail News
Additionally, I know many people use the 5th st Arcade as a cut through to Euclid/PS office space from the Gateway parking garage. Ergo, there is more exposure to possible shopping than with the Arcade.

Cleveland: Shaker Square: Development and News
Based on the remarkable detail in mjarboe[/member]'s nuCLEus article, I would guess that she's probably had her hands full the last few days if not last week or so. BTW, the property owner is still listed as 2720 VAN AKEN BLVD,LLC. They've owned it since 2002 but listed it for sale for more than a year. I have been keeping an eye on this property since I first saw it listed for sale. There may be a conditional sale pending but publicly accessible websites won't list that information, including the potential buyer. The man making the presentation today before the Landmarks Commission is Kevin Dreyfuss-Wells, an architect at RDL who focuses on green building projects. But that doesn't give any insight as to who the owner or developer is. So I guess we'll just have to wait and see. I was going to ask if we knew who the presenter was going to the city. Additionally these "renderings" look very preliminary so I wonder if it is more just getting approval for the change to current zoning rather than a full blown plan. In which case clvlndr[/member] we can still request/ask/beg for ground floor retail. :)

Cleveland: Shaker Square: Development and News
The Shaker-to-Drexmore retail strip along Van Aken is currently a group of 1-floor businesses on the backside of Shaker Square... The proposed development there calls for high-end apartments likely creating significant foot traffic from working-professional residents... big difference. While I agree it is usually best to provide some retail at the base of a building it isn't like the immediate area is devoid of retail. I think that unless there is actual demand/shortage for retail in the area then it doesn't need to be built. I wouldn't want that retail to sit as empty as the current stores even if it looks nicer. In fact due to higher rents, as it will be new and modern, that might just be the case. There is demand for more housing, especially the high quality townhome/apt. style that is proposed. Also, per the renderings (as always take with large doses of salt) it appears that the plan is to create a plaza at the corner of Van Aken and Shaker. This hopefully will better integrate the new building with those existing at SS.

Really, do you have some studies to back this up? Also I believe that there are a few open retail spots within Shaker Square itself.

Agreed, despite them being right on the corner of Superior. They need more/better signage. Hopefully they will be adding some soon.

Cincinnati: Kroger
Amazon may not need Whole Foods to grow much more as an organic grocer, not if they can grow their grocery business in entirely new dimensions rather than just expanding store count and improving same-store sales YOY. If they're serious about home delivery (possibly even drone delivery), though, they just acquired 450 reasonably spacious launchpads, not to mention plenty of spaces for local pickup, which they'd previously been renting or buying dedicated space for. ... This is what I think people here are underestimating about this purchase. Amazon didn't buy WF for their grocery prowess or their ability to continue to grow, they bought them as a distribution platform. And the only thing that Amazon doesn't distribute well is perishable goods. But instead of trying to create an entire network to move and store these goods they bought one. And can now exploit it with the full purchasing power of Amazon.

Cleveland: Flats East Bank
From looking at their other sites they seem to build with a distance of 500-600ft (as stated above) and a width of 300-400ft. A quick google distance measurement shows that that parking lot is still small, by about 100ft in each direction. Not to say that it couldn't work, but this venture seems like something more likely to end up at Crocker or Pinecrest.

Shaker Heights: Development and News
I ride the Blue line just about every day and , while KJP's photos show the current progress they don't show the next units. They have already laid the foundations and rough'ed in the plumbing so it would seem that they are going to be erecting those units quite soon. I could be wrong, but I don't think they will be able to leave the site in such an unbuilt state. This is all just my impression though and I haven't talked to anyone in the know.

The Kingsbury Building in Shaker...
Yeah thats the place. I haven't been to A touch of Italy, we always seem to be running around and having a little one makes it harder. I guess it is mostly just wishful thinking that there was more right by my house within the city. But between Shaker Square (Cleveland) and Cedar-Lee (Cleveland Heights) it isn't like the area isn't underserved. I think what I really just want is a decent local sports bar, there probably is one at Cedar Lee but again small child makes things more complicated. We had a surprisingly good one in Rivals when we lived in Middleburg, less than a mile away and was a true local operation.

The Kingsbury Building in Shaker...
Or that. Still there should be another place than Italian place on Chagrin. Not sure if it is zoning or liquor permits or what, but it seems well under served.

The Kingsbury Building in Shaker...
Lee has some good places to watch the game... Tavco, and other sports bar type places. Larchmere has a few options as well. Between those and Shaker Square, there are tons of International options for food. I'm just down the road on Parkland. I'm in love with being on the Shaker Lakes. I'm over on Warrington. And just in case you aren't familiar with the local phraseology "Tavco" is The Tavern Company on Lee. Yes this is a bit disappointing, you would think there would be another restaurant/bar along Chagrin at Lee. Van Aken will hopefulkly change that and its really not that far at all (just a much longer walk for me).

I walked by this the other day. It doesn't look like they are taking the whole frontage that used to be Cadillac Ranch.

Gentrification News & Discussion
C-Dawg[/member], It is crazy how people from the coasts have no idea about the difference in the cost of living in "Fly Over Country". My wife and I own a house and a boat. All her (she works for PwC) coworkers from the East coast (she mostly gets eastern US projects) just find it amazing that these things are possible. But when you are living in Cleveland and can boat on Lake Erie (probably one of the cheaper places to keep a boat) all kinds of fun is possible.

Cleveland: Flats East Bank
No that is a completely different place. This takes its name from Jimmy Buffet, who is also an owner I believe. The one in Sandusky is really big with bikers, even so far as specific parking for bikes. It is a really fun spot, especially if they have a band.

Cleveland Rapid Rail Construction Projects (Non-Service Issues)
Don't understand The elevator that serviced track 7, worked at best 50% of the time. Now without a station to service it can be shut down for good, or hopefully fixed so that when the next set of tracks are replaced there it wont be such a pain point

Shaker Heights: Van Aken District Transit Oriented Development
It is interesting that as you read that announcement that Chipotle is no longer part of the listed tenants. There was a rumor in one of the Shaker Facebook groups I'm in that Fresh Market wanted to renegotiate the terms after the takeover so thet there would be a lower cost per sq ft. RMS said "nope, see ya later." and that was why that portion fell through. Also from the article: "Palmisano said an announcement about a replacement retailer might come early next year. "We've had a half-dozen other grocers out there in the market looking, and I think we're going to land on one that's really committed to Northeast Ohio and Shaker," he said." Well the only Grocery Store within Shaker is Heinen's, and (again rumormongering) if they were to go there it would be a smaller store and they would have to have fewer employees and even higher prices.

Shaker Heights: Van Aken District Transit Oriented Development
There is already a "downtown Shaker" its called Shaker Square! ::) ::) ::) Or is it Chargin and Lee? I'm sure that was part of the advertising for that shopping plaza when it was updated too.

Shaker Heights: Van Aken District Transit Oriented Development
I like the idea of a gym there. Too close for another Heinen's.... I second this option. There are not too many options in the area right now.

No brakes, but there are engines that move in circles. Changes the spatial needs for docking an maneuvering, and for the market they are looking for these might be more likely. http://www.boats.com/boat-buyers-guide/all-about-pod-drives-volvo-penta-ips-mercruiser-cummins-zeus-and-zf-marine/
