  1. Ksonic, must have missed the reloadable aspect of the MTA card when I was looking earlier. That is def what we will be doing. As long as MTA didn't use the same company to do their UI for their machines then I think we can purchase them when we get there (RTA's IT people really need to take that UI behind the woodshed and do the honorable thing). I'm starting to play around on Frommers and it really is helpful. But I do like inside information, such as the SoL recommendation. Ram, I am a Beer lover (so is the Wife, one of the reqs) so help away. Also I'm not trendy so likely the bars you recommend I will like more than if I were to go to some of the hot spots.
  2. Thats what we began to realize, that we should start figuring out what we Have to do, Need to do, and Want to do then find a hotel that is the best fit. Also, we are planning on flying (and getting the earliest flight there, I think around 8:20am) and taking PT into the city. Is it worth it to pay for a 7 day pass even though we'll just be there for 4 days?
  3. Sorry, but the "free rider" issue is a non starter argument. Renters pay their property taxes through their rent. It may not be "direct", but they sure are paid. Renters understand this, landlords sure as hell do, and probably most intelligent homeowners do. Politicians looking to "divide and conquer" their way to election might hope that they don't, though. This isn't entirely true. It isn't always feasible for landlords to pass those costs on to renters. They may pay a fraction of those costs, at best. I don't understand, if a landlord is not charging the renters enough to cover their property taxes then how could they remain as an ongoing business. Landlords, for the most part, are not in the business to provide charity. Well, if the rent is not even enough to cover the property taxes, then the landlord is definitely in trouble. However, that's not what was really said above. The point was that tenants do not effectively have the full cost of property taxes passed on through to them. Therefore, if property taxes go up by $120/year, it's unlikely that tenants will see their rent increase by $10/mo.; likewise, if property taxes go down by $120/year, it's unlikely that tenants will see their rent cut by $10/mo. In the former case, the landlord will absorb some as loss; in the latter, the landlord will keep some of the surplus as profit. But then it becomes a business decision whether to pass the cost onto the renter. I don't think the relationship should be looked at as whether the Renters are absorbing the full property tax of the building, that is the sole responsibility of the Landlord.

  5. Ages: 27 Interests: Anything really, I know that doesnt help much. History, Architecture, Probably a couple museums, Long Walks in the Park (ha had to add that). Hotels: We aren't really big on the type of hotel. Also, have not had much/any experience with any Boutique or High End hotels though. Restaurants: Haven't been out in a while, but have a general disgust of chains. We do enjoy Brewpubs quite a lot. Really want to try a lot of ethnic places. Other parts of the City: Are there areas in NJ worth seeing?? Probably stay in Manhattan for the most part, unless there is something that just has to be seen. Party: Are you offering to take us out for a night on the town MTS?? ;) We certainly don't as much as we used to (sucks getting old) but im sure a night or two would be spent out late. I already wasn't expecting anything cheap, but now your telling me I should just give them my Bank acct #?? Also, while we will likely go over to Times Square, we wont be doing any Shows there. We are doing the Broadway Series here and not sure that we will want to go while there as well. Obviously going to Statue of Liberty, Ground Zero, Empire State Building and Central Park are must do. but really not sure on much else.
  6. So I think that the Wife and I are going to be taking a trip to New York City in Mid November (gotta love mid week banking holidays). Neither of us have ever been. As such we have no idea where to stay or for that matter what we should aim to do while there. Right now we have nothing reserved scheduled, although it does look like we will be flying CLE to LGA as they have the cheapest flights. Other than that I am looking for recommendations from all you wonderful people about what we HAVE to do, should do, and should avoid. Also looking for a recommendation of where to stay. Not looking for anything super swanky, but a quality place that we can enjoy, and puts us around most things. Ok...and go!
  7. I understand that, but does the whole populace that reads The Scene? I guess that's what I'm getting at. For a city our size and with our culture should we expect all readers to understand different applications and preparations of food from cultures that may not be familiar?
  8. ^ Is this happening just to Clevelanders or is it more widespread? I ask because I was never aware of the food scene anywhere else I have lived (hadn't reached the needed level of maturity yet). I would assume this is likely not happening in New York, but what about Cincy, Milwaukee, or the Twin Cities?
  9. ^ If Ohio didn't have a ridiculous law that anyone who enjoys an adult beverage must be contained like cattle then this would not have the feedlot look. They should really try to find a way to make the whole street free of the fences. Would make it a much better atmosphere.
  10. This feels like the most informative Scene article I've read in a while. The Fish That Saved Cleveland Three groups want to build an aquarium, but maybe we can’t afford one by Anastasia Pantsios In a dark corridor in the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo's Primate, Cat, and Aquatics Building, past the chattering monkeys and the languidly beautiful leopards, gunmetal gray sharks glide back and forth behind a wall of glass. A gaggle of children stand close to the window as zookeeper Geoff Hall points out the different kinds of sharks inside. A small bleacher is set up on the opposite wall, silent testimony to the fascination the creatures inspire. http://www.clevescene.com/cleveland/the-fish-that-saved-cleveland/Content?oid=1974474
  11. ^ also in the article it mentions that Penton Building is almost 92% occupied. Sounds like a pretty good building to have in their portfolio. Still very interested to see what they do with the Huntington Bldg. Power-washing the E9th side would be my first recommendation. I am really tired of staring at its dirty, dirty exterior.
  12. Yeah but what kind of Steak? When I think of Columbus all that comes to my mind is OSU and that its the state capital. Maybe they want to be known as a big college town and if so then they probably dont need to change much. But if they want to highlight something else then there does need to be a re-branding effort.
  13. ^Preseason is not nearly as bad as regular season. And as far as I have noticed as long as it isn't Sh!tsburg, the bungles, or the ratbirds then the response isn't terrible. The Cowboys might be the exception as they are an extremely annoting franchise with an egomaniac for an owner. But most fans of non-divisional opponents just get a lot of good ribbing.

I wouldnt call any of those designs "suit and tie." Somewhere between "Polo and Sandles" and "(working outside in 90% humity) Wife beater and shoeless"

This is a ridiculous thread but insanely fun. Our list: 52" LCD HD TV (almost paid off, makes me happy) Cable Box w DVR Wii Receiver - 15-20 years old, but it is just used for outdoor speakers until I can get my nice Surround Sound system (we currently have no DVD payer because of this) Digital Picture Frame (never set up, should get the wife on that) Big Wall Clock HP Desktop 20" flat screen monitor Wireless Printer, Copier, Scanner, Fax Wireless Router Cable Modem 19" TV/VCR combo 27" TV (tube variety) 2 iPhones 2 alarm clocks Various Lamps, but more importantly ... Ceiling Fans - they are really underrated

Sound of Ideas spends a lot of time on the new Interbelt bridge. Good stuff on there, with ODOT getting ripped for bad design. New Cleveland Designs When money is an object, there's a balance between creating a signature statement with new construction projects, such as the Innerbelt bridge in Cleveland, and building something functional without going broke. On the next Sound of Ideas, we'll talk about ODOT's design options for the bridge as well as plans for a new convention center and a Museum of Contemporary Art. How big-ticket projects look can say a lot about a region, and about what it can afford. Let us know what you think, Tuesday morning at 9:00 on 90.3. http://www.wcpn.org/WCPN/soi/31579 Steven Litt, art and architecture critic, The Plain Dealer Scott Varner, spokesman, Ohio Dept. of Transportation Paul Alsenas, director, Cuyahoga County Planning Commission Ronald A. Reed, FAIA, IIDA, Principal, Westlake Reed Leskosky edit: Opps, just shall that Avogrado already posted this. Still worth a listen though.

It may be cheaper to just feed them calcium supplements and Beast; it will also make them more docile (or aggressive; it depends on what kinds of drunks they are). I think I almost pee'd myself a little after this one. Also, I am now deathly afraid to enter this world (nothing on the way yet still afraid). I remember dorm life destruction of things was common, along with a stale Beast smell. Frightening.

Bridge A - WTF? Bridge B - Looks very Miami Bridge C - Eh Where is option D - None of the above - when you need it? :wtf: Agreed on the Option D. But C really does look like we are trying to combine two styles on the same Bridge. Thats why I like A. Simple and SimCity-esque, but probably cheap and that always wins out with ODOT.
  19. And Mangini is going to tolerate a "Farve-esque" play by your gut style?? I know elements of the WC offense allow for more creativity, as there is a lot more play action, so that could help. But they are still going to play a ball control, run based offense. So Delhomme wont have time to get into a rhythm. I will say this though if he gets hot he can put the ball just about anywhere. Also, need to make sure he keeps his head on straight with the young WR's, hes a bit of a hot head.
  20. By no means am I criticizing his skills. I'm just saying that even if Hardesty stays healthy and gets a load of carries, there are still going to be opportunities for other guys, like Harrison, to step in and produce. I'd rather have a two-headed monster than be glad about the injury of one of the guys because I like the other one better. Precisely. Carolina had this last year, two RB's over 1100 yards. Yet because they kept Delhomme when he was throwing passes only to the other team they finished 8-8. After watching Jake crumble in the '08 playoffs and last year I feel bad for every Browns fan. Hopefully he will get pulled quickly and SW will play.
  21. But if they are the only ones that are profitable then why would the airlines run anything else? Also, if you re-read the post, Tampa, Fort Lauderdale, and Orlando all use 737's.
  22. Yeah I pretty much agree with everything you said RnR. I forgot napkins ... completely. Needed to wash my hands as soon as I got back. But it was really tasty. mmm walleye taco.
  23. Well made sure that I got out early today so that they weren't out of food. Craziness kinda ensued, they tweeted they were going to be at the Mall, but couldn't find a spot, and ended up at W4th; all this time there were people milling about on St. Clair with smartphones out. Anyway, I got the Junkyard Dog and it is pretty darn good. Only downside is there is a disproportionate amount of Bun to Dog. But flavor wise very very good.

excuse? lol Reserve Square (bedbugs): http://blog.cleveland.com/metro/2008/11/case_western_law_student_sues.html Chesterfield (roaches and bedbugs reported): http://www.apartmentratings.com/rate/OH-Cleveland-The-Chesterfield.html That was two years ago. Lets give him some up-to-date information. True it may be out of date, but it would be a worthy question to ask, look into, during the decision process. I think it is more there to make the OP aware that there was a problem.
  25. What type of meat was used? $16 doesnt seem out of reason to me. unless they are using Kobe beef, or topping each with caviar then $16 is a bit steep. As the Geniuses at Miller said: "$11.50 for a Hamburger?? ... Y'all must be crazy!" http://www.evtv1.com/player.aspx?itemnum=8658
