  1. Now if there were just more of these crazy things maybe we wouldn't have this issue.
  2. tried to stop there around 1:45 and they were out of food. Not exactly something that I'm used to seeing, those hot dog vendors always seem to be filled. There really does need to be more of these. I really wanted that junkyard dog.
  3. Its not. I asked one of the RTA police guys about it, in relation to people that park and go to the airport, and he said that they could in theory tow the cars but for the most part it isn't much of an issue. The day that I asked it was obvious that a few cars had been there for days, in odd spots and covered in snow, even though it hadnt snowed in 2-3 days, so it was pretty easy to see which cars had been left for a while.
  4. hes a vet, lets see how they do in actual training camp. OTA's are more for understanding the playbook, assignments, etc. Not surprised at his "mediocre" play, he is learning a new system. If he still looks like cr@p in a couple weeks then there is an issue.
  5. Ditto. I drive now after several years of taking the rapid, and the bus before that for many more years, but no more. It's a wash financially since I found a parking lot for less than it cost to take the rapid, and much quicker, as well as no annoying voice over announcements repeating the same "cutesy" announcement over and over, or hearing "pedestrians, bus is turning, bus is turning" over and over. Wash Financially - Maybe, depends on how far work is from your parking garage. An advantage i have is that from TC I can hop on the E-line trolly or the HealthLine and be dropped off almost right at the front door. Very convenient during those lovely weather events we have. Announcements - The announcements on the Rapid have been toned down. A lot. Still the cutesy announcement, but no longer blaring so much more reasonable. The bus announcements are not as bad as everyone makes it out to be. Is that basically what is being said, yeah. Can you hear it in Public Square, not really over all the other automobile noises. Basically you only hear it if the bus is turning right next to you (not sure how it sounds if you are on the bus though).
  6. I agree that there is a dearth of ethnic places and really outside of the Colonial Arcade, Zocalo and Siagon on Fourth there really doesnt seem to be much. Especially of the middle eastern variety. And Tea House does feel like a chain, even if they aren't.

DOE estimates 100-mile automotive batteries will cost just $5,000 in 2020 Take, for example, the government's chart on the "Forecasted Cost of a Typical Electric‐Vehicle Battery." In 2009, the DOE's Vehicle Technologies Program says, the cost was around $33,000. This will drop to $10,000 in 2015 and then keep sinking, all the way to around $5,000 in 2021 and $3,000 in 2030. The weight of a 100-mile automotive battery will drop significantly, too, the DOE predicts, from around 333 kilograms today to just 55 kg in the 2020-2030 timeframe. http://green.autoblog.com/2010/07/20/doe-estimates-100-mile-automotive-batteries-will-cost-just-5-00/
  8. ^ no but Im in the same boat and have noticed the same thing. Thats what prompted my question. Do I still enjoy a night out on w6th yeah. Am I going every weekend like it seemed for a while, no.
  9. Well that's part of the problem right there. Good urban neighborhoods are in high demand but it's difficult to increase the supply because of zoning limitations and NIMBY-ism. On this, we completely agree--though the problem is that one person's zoning limitations and NIMBY-ism are another person's guarantee of neighborhood "character" and "stability" and other pleasant-sounding buzzwords ... and such measures are often supported by putative urbanists, which drives me up a wall. The number of hoops one needs to jump through to build on a suburban greenfield is far smaller than the number needed to put in a 10-story condo tower in an area protected by urban zoning laws, an area commission, and maybe a separate historic preservation commission or similar bureaucracy on top of that. But do those commissions provide no value to an urban core? I would argue that by having them you are ensuing that those projects that are built do mesh with the surrounding building stock. However, I'm sure that the process could be made simpler, I just would not want to see these commissions done away with completely.
  10. Are the times 'a changin or are you 'a changin? Generally W 6th type atmosphere is for the college mid-late 20s crowd. The same thing that was entertaining/fun at 25 isn't quite as entertaining/fun at 35. I wonder how much of that has an affect on ones view here? Not to say that there aren't issues that need to be addressed, and based on cleveland.com comments they do (btw the comments for this article actually dont seem as stupid, bigotry as usual).

We are also going to be renoving the kitchen, and also got most of our items from the Kraftmaid Outlet (which is a crazy, crazy place. I cant begin to describe what waking up at 4:30am to drive to Youngstown to wait until 8 and make quick @ss choices on cabinets does to the mind). I need to take before and after, and during, pics. it should be a crazy transformation.

^ i've had the wife do that. it is really lazy and I told her off, but being married I still did what was asked.
  15. I have the perfect spot -- the Powerhouse in the Battery Park development! I actually don't think that would fit to well. That space isn't truly urban, it is more like a club house for the Battery Park Development. Not saying that it couldn't work there, but I think that along Detroit would be a better fit in that location. Now I do think that a healthy Wrap/Smoothie place would work well in the Powerhouse due to how close it is to Edgewater and the coming reconfiguration of the streetscape.
  16. ^ that wait time sounds like it has come down. I know a group of 4 could routinely count on a 1.5-2 hour wait a while back. Maybe the CH location is keeping some of those Eastsiders on their side of the river. ;)
  17. Retail, thank god. Hopefully something creative that can keep the collection of tenants interesting and diverse.
  18. Zinc is open for lunch and is quite good. I had the lobster roll which was great, not overly seasoned and the lobster was really good. We sat on the patio and I recommend doing so the view of the BP building is good as it rises above the Euclid Arcade, it also feels quite secluded as you are set a good way back from Euclid (suprisingly the parking garage actually helps with this, it feels more like another wall than a garage entrance).

Hoot, you beat me to it. Also, consider who was starting for those teams. that 07 team doesn't make it out of the second round in 08-09.

Go play any sport for 45 min straight and and then do it aging without breaks, then tell me that is not enough time to decide who was the better team. That is 90min of game time. No other sport even comes close to that much "game time" (not sure how to classify baseball, but pretty sure that there isn't 90 min of actual game time). I would say that the lack of subbing shows the greater depth of the induvidual and you don't have players that have one skill only. you have to be more complete to play soccer. not just able to hit a baseball (DH) without fielding, fire a 3 pointer without any ability to go inside, or play patty cake on the Offensive or Defensive line. You need to be able to run (up to 7 miles a game for English Premier League), control the ball, play defense, all while knowing that you aren't going to get a break until halftime. I think it is much more impressive to be a Pro Soccer player than any other sport. Much more discipline is needed in order to succeed. Coaches take on a much more strategic approach, they are there more for preparation than in game adjustments. And really that is what every coach does. If too many in game adjustments are being made then that is the sign of a coach that doesn't know what he is doing. There is nothing wrong with a low scoring game. I don't understand everyone's obsession with it. It is a superficial aspect to change. Because of the lower scoring aspect, every chance and build up to a scoring chance has more impact. Last time I checked there was still Halftime, no quarters because that's silly anyway. I think most professional athletes would be able to play for the 30 min of Football or 24 Min of Basketball (not to mention the 45 min Soccer plays). And if you need Cheerleaders or a Marching Band to enjoy a sporting event then dare I say that you aren't going there for the sport.

Not all highways should have Bike Lanes. Not all bridges should either. Well as the PD said (unbelievably enough) in an editorial a week or two back... the should be doing the Abbey Ave - Lorain Carnegie upgrades REGARDLESS of the innerbelt. And they should. They are completely different segments. The innerbelt bridge would connect Tremont to downtown. Abbey Ave connects tremont to Ohio City and vice versa, Lorain Carnegie connects OC to downtown. Again, I still don't understand why they just cant have the design teams come up with their own visions and costs, and make decisions based off of that. I actually agree with this, but I do think that it will be too difficult to make it work. I think, and this is an amateur opinion, that the clusterfudge of exit ramps on the DT side of the bridge, the tight space of the needed ramps (for bicycles), and the height that these ramps would need to overcome would make it cost prohibitive. But these are the type of things that engineers and architects are paid to determine.
  23. Technically we have 26 months, but I guess they'd have to have a guarantee that it would be up by then. Is the cruiseship-docking idea feasible or a joke? It's probably feasibile but CLE really need another two and maybe three convention/business oriented hotels of quality. MTS has mentioned a few... Westin, Omni, etc.... It is. when I was pitchin CLE for our annual meeting. The issue was the quality of hotels and that there arent enough properties where those who are loyalty members can redeem or earn points. In downtown we dont have one starwood property (W, Westin, St. Regis, aloft, Element, Sheraton) or Best Western in our downtown. Being devoid of a Starwood property is a huge black eye is most of their brands are considered hip/young and they have a HUGE gay marketing platform. We dont have a single TOP tier property from Hilton (Conrad), Starwood (W, St. Regis, Luxury Collection), Priority Club (Intercontinental), Marriott (JW Marriott or Marriott Marquis) or Accor (Sofitel). Nor do we have any independents like Loews or Omni. In order to compete, we need those brands. Simply having a above average Ritz Carlton and a Wyndham nor will the historic Renaissance or Hyatt. Again, those with disposable income, gay, or the young hip urban crowd don't want to stay at a Hampton Inn or Holiday Inn they want hip and cool. True right now, and I agree that we will probably be in a better position in 2016. The Schofield should be complete by then, hopefully something exiting comes to the Huntington building, and FEB is finished with what some of us think will be an aloft. Seems to be that the "hip" hotels realize that there is a hole here that needs to be filled, at least somewhat. My only worry is what we hear about the vacancy rates and how that may affect some of these decisions.
  24. As a stakeholder? Yes, I do. They are the project sponsor for the intermodal transportation center, so they'd better be involved in some form. I agree here that they should be informed and make observations of how changes may affect routes, but I would not want them actually on the commission making decisions. They need to show that they can take care of their own room before they are allowed to advise on anther's room. Do you understand what their role is/will be?? Right now I don't believe they are involved with the commission. So as I understand it their role is doing nothing (insert witty comment of choice). Strap indicated that he wanted them on the commission, I'm not sure that would be a productive addition. I do agree that they should be involved with the process in a limited capacity, but I think that RTA has other items they should be worried about. Like not letting grant funding for the NCTC slip through their fingers.
