Cleveland: Cleveland State University: Development and News
Well, UD has the lovely racket of including your "rent" in tuition. So in addition to getting the university mark up for R&B I get to finance it over 30 years. Great :/

Cleveland: Cleveland State University: Development and News
^As a fellow UD grad I would agree with you, but I think 327 is thinking more along the lines of the neighborhoods being closer in type to the north side of campus than the south by Oakwood. Although, having the university means that there is a stable supply of consumers. So as long as someone will pay it, and college students seem to find ways (parents) to pay for a lot of things they probably have no business affording.

2010 World Cup
With the mother ship putting on the WC show here it is going to be bigger than it ever has. I think ESPN is spending ridiculous amounts of money trying to put together a bid package for the Olympics whenever they come back up again.

Cleveland: Jack Cleveland Casino
^ Pretty sure that would violate the terms of the amendment. They are placing the "Phase 1" casino in the Higbee building NEXT to Tower City, but they can't place it IN Tower City. It will however be connected.

^ Golf Simulator/Sports bar. Includes its own pro shop so has a bit different take on the standard sports bar.

USA Soccer: Women's National Team
I would expect for a woman's friendly that is about right. Men's friendly that I went to 3 years ago drew I think 30K and that seems about right to. As these are just exhibitions with nothing really on the line I'm not suprised there was a small turnout. If it were a WC qualifying match I would expect more.

Why are young people driving less?
Having one car ('02 Sante Fe) paid off for a few years and the other one (new '09 Malibu) scheduled to pay off this year I don't feel the same pressure that I used too. Plus both the wife and I are car light, with commutes under 5 miles each way, and she will take the bicycle out and ride to work. So if you are smart about it you can have the 2 cars and still be able to afford it.

I want to see their little village though. Do they play stickball in their "streets"? Do they have block parties? These are things we need to know.

Plus they all have their little houses to put everything away in at night :D

Cleveland: The Residences at 668 Euclid Avenue
And, regarding to Tedder's points.. Valid as they may be, then why select a highly visible street level space that is really intended for being noticed? If it is not, then what's the surprise in my reaction here? If street level visibility was not important.then why select a prime street level space? All I am saying is that it is a wasted opportunity and such an office may as well have been up five floors somewhere. That is a point I agree with, i don't like their snowed in windows. Feels very dead. But what I was getting at was their use of interior space, which is different and creative. Hopefully over time their street presence can change, similar to the way that Ligget Stashowser has.

Not all advertising firms get their business from people walking by on the street. In fact I would bet that very few do. So therefore from their business perspective it would not make sense to have such a street presence and instead focus on what their creative employees want from their workspace. Little research can go a long way. From their web site under news: Given the creative nature of Wyse’s business and the need for both informal and formal meeting spaces, the Wyse space was designed by Mulle + Associates of Cleveland as a combination of “neighborhoods” and common areas. Each department of the agency is designed with individual “buildings” with varying roof lines, colors, textures, and materials, including wood siding and galvanized tin and fiberglass roofs. Large glass windows and doors on all of the offices allow natural light from the two 100-foot long skylights to permeate the space, which includes 12 meeting rooms of varying sizes and configurations, and two mezzanine levels that overlook the agency’s “neighborhoods.” “Wyse was looking for office space that would function as a vehicle to help spur great ideas. As we met with employees and charted work flow, we worked to fashion an environment and traffic flow that would provide impromptu, casual meetings and foster frequent interaction,” said Tim Mulle, principal of Mulle + Associates. According to Marino, “New ideas are the result of both collaboration and introspection. This unique space provides a perfect balance of those two needs.”

Cleveland: Restaurant News & Info
^ they do have a sign out. On the walk way by the garage entrance. Looks like it will have neon lighting like the rest of the signs for the building (have not seen it at night so not sure if its operational). EDIT: On second pass it does not look like neon.

Cleveland Cavs Discussion
The Cavs will be over the salary cap even if they don't sign Shaq or LeBron. The only way they could acquire a player is through a sign and trade. The best option available to the team is re-signing both players, since they own both players' Bird rights. Not true, if they dont resign anyone they will be under the cap. That means letting Z, Telfair, powe, and Jawad Williams walk, and Lebron and Shaq obviously. So they could still make signings while losing Lebron and Shaq. They don't just have to do sign and trades.

Phones in Cincinnati
From my source inside, they are "locked" into the 3G until it's LTE network can be built I have heard this as well, but also heard that AT&T's 3g network has the abaility to be boosted to near 4g levels. Rumors at least.

Cleveland Bicycle Week
^ I really wanted to go to the hooley, sounded fun. But a Kelley's Island trip was scheduled and this weekend is shapping up like a beauty. Plus there are only so many boating days in Cleveland.

Ohio Education / School Funding Discussion
One of the statistically (MTS this is directed at you) significant findings from the report was that small payments at a young age, they did $2 for each book read for 2nd graders, had a tremendous impact. If something like this can be scaled across math, science, etc. then it could have long term effects. If you start at a young age there is likely a better chance that you will induce someone to enjoy learning.

Ohio Education / School Funding Discussion
^ While I will generally agree with this statement, there is a vast disinterest in learing among some of the worse, and sometimes good, school districts. So if they don't want to learn for whatever reason, and "paying" them in some fasion does make them "want" to learn, then is it not worth pursuing? Even with just more academic case studies? We all agree that more eductation results in more oppertunities, so maybe this is just one tool in your toolbelt to get to some of the kids that otherwise you would not be able to teach.

Ohio Education / School Funding Discussion
I like the thought of this, too. Time Magazine recently did a cover of this topic. http://www.time.com/time/nation/article/0,8599,1978589-1,00.html There were some interesting results where paying directly for a grade did not show as much improvement as one would think. It is a bit of a long article, but well worth the read.

Cleveland: The Residences at 668 Euclid Avenue
They do slope down, and i think McCleveland hit it on the head as for the reason why I don't think they look that bad and actually go with the overall Euclid Brick design. So that is a plus. As to the Wall ideas that EC was refering to, now that they have done all the brick tuck pointing I dont think the wall looks half bad. you can see a bit of the change that the building has undergone over the years. Also, a lot of drywall work going on in the little annex building right there. Anyone know of plans for it?

Columbus Crew Discussion
Hejduk will get a chance because he is a veteran of previous WC's and adds a good locker room presence for some of the younger guys. Plus he will be solid as a reserve. Chad Marshell and Robbie Rodgers will get invited to the upcoming camp, but not sure if they will make it.

Cleveland: Random Development and News
There were prople in the little part of the Dollar Bank building, thats somehow connected to the Colonial/Euclid Arcade (cant remember which one that is), they were doing drywall work it looked like. Anyone have any idea what is going on there?
