Cleveland: Perk Park Renovation
Phase 1 should be completed by this fall, Phase 2 by spring 2011. Funding for Phase 2 is not secured yet, dependant on the completion of the sale of the CC. I think Phase 2 includes a lot more of the interesting aspects of the park, Fountian, seating, and such.

I also dont understand the love affair with Tar-je. I dont think I have ever bought clothes there and really never plan to. I have occasionally bought kitchen appliances there, toaster oven coffee maker, but mainly because I couldn't find what I wanted at Macy's or didn't have a coupon there that would work. Macy's always seems to win out for quality too.

Cleveland: Cleveland State University News & Info
Reasoning? They don't have a stadium and because it's an expensive sport, even if non-scholarship. It will lose money and I just don't think the University benefits all that much from it. Interesting as for most schools the football program is one of the few athletic activities that earn money.

Actually as I do take the train every day I do know about the announcements. However, maybe it is just a personal thing. I was always told that I have "selective" hearing so maybe I can just tune out the excess noise better. Good to hear that driving allows your schedule to work better. It's an issue that I'm sure I will be facing in about 1-2 years.

RnR is all this really worth not having to listen to a few RTA announcements?

Greater Cleveland RTA News & Discussion
^ Lets be honest if RTA were to go out and buy LED screens right now they would be ripped apart from a PR standpoint. Good idea, but right now might not be the best time to implement. I would consider the announcements overall to be a helpful addition. Especially for riders that may not use the system as much as regulars and don't know all the stops. However, I do think they are too long. Announcing "attractions" outside of the core areas of Downtown, Ohio City, and University Circle doesn't seem to have much merit. But that is really the only thing that I would improve upon.

Looks like the Flaming Ice Cube is coming to public square. Taking over the old Susy's Soup location. Coming Soon signs are up in the window.

Actually ... I dont even think its ceramic tile. I think it is just some kind of paint. for a while it looked like just drywall; although I'm sure it wasnt just standard drywall, maybe fiberboard or something. But over a couple of days it went from drywall-esque to what it looks like now. pretty amazing all concerned. But would look much much better if granite and what not was used.

Cleveland: National City Bank News & Info
I've heard mixed reviews. The Wife's mom had trouble with an account transfering but her name was spelled wrong on the account info, which probably had been wrong from the beginning so not necessarily PNC's fault. Why on earth are you signed up through Mizzou?

Cleveland newbie "dumb" questions
BTW what the hell is Stadium Mustard exactly? I was generally perturbed the first time I went to the Jake and it was out there for my hot dog. Also, the wife didn't believe that it was only a Cleveland thing which necessitated an emergancy call to my mother in Cincy to confirm that this craziness is indeed unique to Cleveland.

RJ Bohlands has a pretty decent Happy Hour from what I recall (only been there once). BBQ pizza was pretty good.

Rethinking Transport in the USA
Charolette at least seems to realize they reached a tipping point. http://www.cnn.com/2010/LIVING/04/01/infrastructure.rebuild/index.html Americans rebuild for the 'new urban century'By John Blake, CNN April 1, 2010 10:21 a.m. EDT In Charlotte, North Carolina, commuters zip along a sparkling new light rail system into a booming downtown district. "We're creating infrastructure for human beings, rather than automobiles," says Michael Smith, CEO of Center City Partners in Charlotte, a group of business leaders that has helped lead a revival of the city's downtown. Creating a new infrastructure means new rules, experts say. What's on the way out: sprawling interstates, suburban living, long car commutes. What's now in: light rail, green space and vibrant downtown districts

Greater Cleveland RTA News & Discussion
^ Agree with the announcement on the trains, mostly unnecessary. Keeep the info to where we are and where we are going and that would be great, thanks. Also, there needs to be some work done on the speaker systems for the announcements on the train. Sometimes it is at an appropriate volume, loud enough to hear soft enough to generally ignore. Other times its painfully loud. Fixing that could let guy fade to the background. The lady in the station though, I think is helpful. Specifically announcing the delays that occur on the train bound for the airport. Also if you are not a daily rider then you may not know that the Airport train will leave beofre the one sitting in the center track bound for Brookpark. Could the volume be lower, sure; is it a bad service, I can't see how more information for your riders is a bad thing.

Cleveland: Innerbelt News
From the comments: Posted by pomutz March 24, 2010, 3:02PM Rather than adding a $20-million bicycle lane that will be over 150' above the Cuyahoga River and subject to the vagaries of extreme wind & weather, not to mention "wash" from passing cars, ODOT should consider providing a lesser amount - say $10-million - to the Towpath Trail project. The Towpath, which is already planned to bisect the area, will provide a safe, mode separated means of traveling to downtown from Tremont and the region. One aspect of adding a bike lane to the bridge that has not been adequately examined is how does one transition to the spaghetti bowl of arterials in the vicinity of Ontario & Carnegie Avenues and then safely to the rest of the downtown street network and its attractions/destination. I don't know about you, but I'd much rather travel an exclusive bike trail that offers safe passage than some freeway appendage. I always wondered how the bike line would integrate with the other end of the bridge. I know that there is no direct access from tremont, but ending up right there in that mess doesn;t sound appeling.

Thats why you stay downtown and enjoy the atmosphere ;). (I know you have a little one to get home too so probably not in the cards. But it is my solution.)

Looks like they are replacing, or putting a new layer, the brick on the western wall. I was getting worried that this wasn't going to happen as they seemed pretty far along and that wall remained looking hideous.

NHL vs. NBA ... Fight!
^ its also the ease of play. Basketball = a hoop and a ball; Hockey = Ice, Skates, a stick and a puck. Much more difficult to find ice to play on and have all the equipment needed to play. Because of that interest will likely wane except for those that are truly vested. Look at all the most posular sports, ease to play is huge. Football = open feild and a ball; Soccer = Open field and a ball; Baseball = Bat (or something like one), open field and a ball (gloves are nice too).
