  1. That sign was horrendous. I wouldn't be surprised if this came from Starwood. They want the property known as The Westin, and the previous Urban Farmer sign would have taken away from that. I would expect something smaller and a bit more contemporary. Maybe a bit closer to the circle design from a few pages back.
  2. I think those two could be interrelated. Mothball it for near term (6mo to a 1yr) and then after the Convention Center and nearby properties have been up and running see what the market can bear. Maybe that is a residential conversion, maybe that is fixing it up as newer offices, maybe a hotel, or some combination. Like we all ave said, this corner will be very different in a year.
  3. In other areas, though, consultants have found ways to cut costs or bring in extra cash. Hilton increased its commitment to the project to $4.75 million, from approximately $2 million early on. Added features, including a rooftop bar, will generate more revenues. And interest rates are lower than the bond underwriters expected a few months ago. Cutting underground parking out of the hotel plans also saved money - potentially $15 million to $20 million. Between foundation complications and design challenges, it became clear that parking at the hotel was impractical, if not impossible. Ha, talk about two issues where this forum's consensus was right on the mark. And seemingly well in advance. Now where is a my check for my "consultants" fee?? H*ll I'd even be happy if they sent a check just to UO.com. No more google ads.

^ Ha, we were in that house last Sunday. It is pretty much what we want but I think we are going to wait on it for now.
  5. ^ FYI those are not necessarily the players kids. Especially for club games. Usually these are the children of season ticket holders, who have either paid (for the bigger clubs) or volunteered their kids to walk out with the players. Sometimes they are the players kids, just not often. I think this type of ceremony would work better for Baseball than American (;)) football. Baseball has a similar reverence to the start of the game, whereas football is very amp'd up for player introductions. Basically he's right. But it is a long season that really just got underway. If the crew keep their points per game above 1.5 they should almost be guaranteed a playoff spot. Hopefully MLS doesn't change the playoff format (again) before then either.
  6. ^ It is a little selective in the interpretation, but it's not exactly like DT was nearly the thriving hotspot it is now. When service started 5.5 years ago The Residences at 668 was still boarded up, and the Schoefield still had it's terrible skin on. I think it is safe to say things have picked up since then.

Thank you to everyone that responded. We are eventually going to end up in OC, east of 45th and most likely east of 38th too. After driving around the area the wife liked the heart of OC much more than GS. Now we will probably be visiting there often, just not living there. I know that that area can be expensive, but we don't have to move immediately so will be watching things for now. If anyone hears about a house coming onto the market though we would live the heads up. ;)
  8. The Schofield was in the same situation for a while as well if I remember correctly. So while it may seem like there is no action, there could be more going on behind the scenes.
  9. Or during the Super Bowl :-) Are you trying to imply that the Browns are going to the Super Bowl?!? You must be crazy. Of course any home game there would be a little nuts as I'm sure you would nearly have views right into the stadium. I'd still like more details about how access to the Sky Bar and Guest rooms is going to be handled. The drawings show a seperate doorway that will likely be keycard accessible only on the top floor, but what about the floors in between?
  10. I think Class B is a stretch as well. As stated in the article National City (Previously National City) had along term lease on the space and used to have employees there. I was in the building a few times and it has a very confusing layout. Additionally it would either be burning up or freezing cold. I think there is going to need to be a good amount of HVAC work along with new windows (they were pretty flimsy 5 years ago). Also, the PNC bank branch is open to anyone and is really ornate. It is more a part of the Holiday Inn building, but is connected to the Garfield Bldg. Hopefully this will liven up the E 6th st. corridor there.
  11. The Sky bar is going to be a great addition and I am really pleased they decided to include it. Can you imagine that place during the Air Show!!

Andrew (and the forum as a whole) how have you liked that area of Ohio City? The wife and I are looking to move and we are seriously thinking about this area. We wanted to be closer to the center of OC, but there is almost nothing available and what is is either out of our price range or not what we are looking for (no condo's/apts, wife's requirement is that there is a front door). So really looking for more information about this area in between OC and Gordon Square. I really don't have a feel for this section as I am either in OC or GS more. Any help would be appreciated.
  13. FYI there is a place in the 5th St Arcades that seems to do similar work. I haven't seen any advertising or the like from them, but their space does note that they do cell phone, laptop, and computer repair work. Granted with your light manufacturing there is another revenue stream, and they are not on the street (or in the busier part of 5st Arcades) but I cannot imagine the market is that robust for this type of service to need two stores within DT.
  14. Clevelander17 and I have known this forever, but now the rest of the nation knows that The University of Dayton is Elite!!
  15. I believe so, some of the hours have changed though. Pickwick & Frolic used to do lunch, but no longer does. Not sure if there have been any other changes.
  16. Additionally, Starwood, the corp that runs the Le Meridian flag, has on their website that this hotel will be "Opening March, 2016". That will give them 4 new hotels in the Cleveland Area in 3 years.
  17. I'd just like to point our that of the Ohio teams to make the big dance UD is the only one moving to the next round. Great game by OSU, but you can see why they don't want play the better teams in state. They have little to gain, and a lot to lose.
  18. The Flyer's almost got Craft'ed. Seemed like that kid couldn't miss down the stretch. Good on Dayton getting the win against OSU, but they could have locked that game up and kept my blood pressure down. Onto the Orange!
  19. Agreed, really want to see this at night as that is when I feel you will get the largest effect.
  20. Not if X fans buy tickets, have to think they will? I think UD season ticket holders still have an option to buy into these games (may actually come with the season tickets). As such I would expect many to show up just to root against X. There's still a good bit of bad blood there.
  21. OSU plays Dayton in the first round of the tourney. The Dayton players were pretty amp'ed up about drawing OSU, game is one of the first on Thrusday, 12:15 in Buffalo. I'm biased, being a UD grad, but think UD can beat OSU. Beating Syracuse will be another matter.
  22. Isn't one of the major concerns with closing Superior completely that it is a Federal Highway.
  23. The marina would be the first thing on the chopping block in my estimation. Boating is a luxury item, and I am a boater so am well versed in it's luxury-ness (Break Out Another Thousand). Also marinas tend to be dead spots, and especially here where we have 6-8 months where they are not usable. I would expect this area to turn into some kind of park, maybe similar to what Lakewood is currently embarking on.
  24. They hurt it in the US, indeed that's one of the big issues (particularly the 0-0 tie) and why indoor soccer was arguably more popular than the traditional game. Another was fewer players and a smaller field of play. In youth sports it's different, for the same reasons gym classes de-emphasize competition. In the US, a tie is "like kissing your sister". (Our coaches made that comment after a game once and "some smartass" made a crack referring to one of the other players and his twin sister...) I think this was especially true during soccer's first incarnation (NASL) and the early years of MLS (90's) but as the Premier League and other European competitions have become more widely available and the associated understanding of the game has increased I do not believe ties are viewed the same way. Especially when placed over a long season, one individual game doesn't have as large of an impact.
  25. True, but ties aren't allowed in championship matches. IMO, ties shouldn't be allowed in any competitive sport. OHSAA's resistance to skill's competition to end a game is ridiculous. Give them 2 OT's, then a shootout. There, done. As for the outrage over the tie, to echo ColDayMan, it's high school hockey. Correct and in most international competitions they also have a point where they reach a shootout. Like the USA v. Russia hockey match during the Olympics. H*ll, Two years ago a cr@p Chelsea team won the Champions League because they were able to survive until a shootout. I would like to see how an extended overtime, with removing players, would work in soccer. 30 min OT full sides, another 30 min -2 players, then maybe a shootout.
