Cleveland: Rock and Roll Hall of Fame News & Discussion
Plus this is a blog. Not a reputable news publication. If Frank, Ted, and the Rock Hall director spent their entire time dealing with the blogospere I dont think they would last too long. Basically they have an opinion that they dont want to leave NYC and with that opinion, hopefully they wont.

Cleveland: The Residences at 668 Euclid Avenue
They are erecting a metal skeleton on the roof of the building now. I had no idea what this was as I thought everything was just being refurbished. After looking at the flyer that was posted up thread (http://bugrahan.net/Documents/668Brochure-ILoveDowntown-4%2009.pdf) it looks like the current top of the building does not include the ornate top. I know I read that they received Historical Tax Credits so is this what the building orginally looked like?

Greater Cleveland RTA News & Discussion
I would agree that this should not be the highest priority of the folks at RTA. The issues you mentioned are a bit more pressing. It just struck me that the Trolly's and the Healthline occupy a similar route and might be better served going elsewhere. I think in the original route I laid out I left the option open to going back down through W 9th and W 6th. However after reading some of the comments on here I do agree that there is very little need for this service during the day. W 25th is not a major employer and the subesquent routing does not link many either. Which leads us to . . . This would provide a much better service to the public than what I originally said (I may have actually just have been thinking of this as it was a Friday afternoon when the idea struck). I remember when the e-line did run til 11 and thought that it was a great service. If this entertainment loop could be put together it would be a great way to get to and from our entertainment islands.

Cleveland: The Residences at 668 Euclid Avenue
That property is probably worth a good deal to the owner, especially if the land is paid for. Parking rents are a cash cow and relative to taxes it is a large investment income. The problem associated with aquiring the property from the owner is that you would have to factor in the future value of the property. And like I said as if there is no or little debt leverage aquiring the property would be difficult. Much easier for the owener to sit on the property and continue to collect parking fees. Now, if there is significant debt leverage and the owner is involved with other properties then there may be some room to aquire the property. Banks love parking garages as they provide a much steadier stream of cash and therefore are less risky. So if the owner is involved in developing another property (unlikely considering this one would probably have more potential to bring in money) then it could be aquired. Now the 515 garage was designed to have apartments above it i believe. So that could be an interesting posibility depending on this project.

Greater Cleveland RTA News & Discussion
I modify my original suggestion to the Prospect routing of KJP's through the gateway. I think this could have tremendous potential as there are many more business' that would be supported. I also think that this could make a few more business' interested in w 25th. Increased access has a funny way of making that happen.

Yes and the rapid terminates there. I actually thought of this yesterday while watching a trolly and a healthline bus run next to each other. Looking at a map this seems like the logical leap when considering where the B-line runs as well.

With the Healthline running up and down Euclid, and all CSU students having passes included in their student fees, would it make sense to reroute the E-Line trolly as it serves the same general area of the Healthline. I would think that a routing of PS->south on Ontario->west on Lorain->North on w 25th->east on Detroit/Superior->back to PS (could have the current routing N on W 9th and S on W 6th before going back to PS). Anyway I am wondering what other pepole think about this. P.S. I think this question belongs here, but if mods feel it should be moved let me know and I will do so. Or move it with your God powers :)

Cleveland: Public Square Redesign
Pedestrians have the right of way when they are walking on cross walks. On the contrary, it is drivers who most of the time lack regard for the pedestrian....because they are so used to driving to the point they assume the world must stop for them. Granted, if it is easier for a pedestrian to wait, or if the pedestrian carelessly walks out in the middle of the traffic, then you have a point. But if we are trying to create a more walkable city, for those who have the 'selfish interest' of wanting to walk, let's not say pedestrians lack regard for the auto, because for the last 55 years the auto has basically dominated the city-scape. If I were visiting here from another planet, I'd think it was the dominant life form. (What movie hinted at that? It was funny!) Closing in the square and making a large round about would actually make everything safer for pedestrians and vehicular traffic. The problem is, that most people in this country have no clue what a round-a-bout is, much less how to use one. They are catching on, though in several places. San Jose, Indianapolis, and others. I think what is being called out is that there are people out in the crosswlaks while they are being told not to walk. It has been my understanfing that if a pedestrian is in the crosswalk when they are not supposed to be, ie the signal indicates to stop, then they are in effect Jaywalking.

The anti-rail hitmen are still out there
The same characters as always: Money train: The cost of high-speed rail The president is pledging $13 billion for a high speed rail system, but some experts fear it will never cover its own costs. By Aaron Smith, CNNMoney.com staff writer Last Updated: July 2, 2009: 12:54 PM ET NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- President Obama is pouring $13 billion into an ambitious high-speed rail project. Some say it will never make money. Some say it will. And still others say profit is not even the point. Obama's plan is "to jump-start a potential world-class passenger rail" in 10 major corridors, linking cities within the Northeast, California, Florida and other regions with "bullet trains" that exceed 110 miles per hour. State governments are in the process of applying for the federal funds. Find this article at: http://money.cnn.com/2009/06/10/news/economy/high_speed_rail/index.htm

^ that is good to hear those two corners sitting empty was not a good entrance to the street. It obviously did not hinder things too much as the whole street is just about filled but it did create an eyesore. Good to hear that the euclid one is back on the market.

Went on a walk and stopped by thier stand. The bikes are ineresting in that they look like a scooter, open where your feet would go on a scooter. Anyway, he said that today was slow but that over the weekend they were pretty busy. Sounds like it is starting off well. I hope that demand stays as I think it is a great move.

I think you are also being blind to the fact that it has been mentioned that they did try to work with Jacobs group and were basically unable to agree on the scope of concept. This is what led Jacobs to MarineScape. I think it is quite forward to assume that C.A. has to work with Jacobs or be left out in the cold. These announcements are what 2 weeks old at most, and it does sound like C.A. has some of the peices and parts together. I personally have serious doubts about Jacobs plan. Not that MarineScape can't put together a solid exibit, but more the location of said exibit. Water weighs a lot, and there needs to be a lot of water to make quality exibits. The shifty ground by the river may not be able to support that weight. I mean look at Irish Bend, its falling into the river. that should tell you what that the Powerhouse is not sitting on solid footing.

It allows them to retain customers and charge fees when they are not returned on time. Most have a 2 day rental with one renewal. After that its like $2 a day. So really they are used as a revenue source.

I would say that there is about a one in a million chance. Houston is a much larger hub than cleveland, allowing them to move more routes through that hub.

I had a friend that lived in Crittenden, he had a larger room and a roommate, but therooms and apt. building were pretty nice. And like KJP said, it is really the area that you are getting. Map Room on 9th is a pretty good bar to hang out at.

I dont know the tacky lawn chairs has a grittier feel to it. If they put in more stylish chairs then the disneyfication effect goes on. These at least make you feel like your sitting on the porch. Gives off a good retro vibe.

Cleveland: Downtown Aquarium
Sounds like Aquariums are best built as new structures where the load can be tolorated by placing appropriate footings. Doing this in an old/rehabed building sounds like much more work as any change in the structure below can have negative impacts on the above ground building.

Cleveland: Downtown Aquarium
Well if the City/ County give them money then they could have a say, but if not then it is up to the private developer as to where they put the aquarium. If Jacobs and MarineScape feel that they can generate the most revenue, for the least cost, at the Powerhouse then they should build there. Private developers don't necesssarily have to operate in the publics interest. Just have to abide by zoning and other general laws. If taxpayer money is involed though then the site selection can be a much more debated subject (See MM/CC).
