  1. Thats what I thought was there, diddly squat. I don't come into 4th from that side of prospect too much so I forget whats over there. I just recalled that it seemed pretty desoloute for what is right next door.

I too remember having a bank account when I was younger. It also was nice having the bank w/i an easy bike ride. Growing up in the far flung suburbs can kinda destroy that ability but I got lucky. My parents actually made each of us put money in a CD, this really brought home the compounding interest. Although I was never disciplined enough to accumulate 10K. Although I may have, college life quickly ruined anything I had saved, I had thought that if I had enough saved and worked each summer I could not have to work while in school. Didn't quite work out that way, but those first 3 semesters w/o working was nice.
  3. What is even between there?
  4. And for Indians/Cavs games the Waterfront line drops you at tower city and it is a short walk from there to the Jake/Gund err Progressive Field/Q.

^It also doesnt help that our tourism board is only open from 9-5, 10-3 from Memorial Day to Labor Day.

I think one of the bigger problems is that too many of the suburbanites do trash the city. It leads to them telling their friends how bad it is and therefore creates the negative feedback cycle. I think there needs to be a paradigm shift in the people around this city to love it, and not just the sports teams but the actual city warts and all. Until that happens to a larger extent, i understand you can't make everyone happy all the time, I think the nationally negative image will hold weight as it is what people are perpetuating.

I completely agree. Gas should be set at $4.00 a gallon now and adjusted with inflation. This will kepp it fairly steady and I think provide enough of a cushion to be ready for spikes. But then again I don;t deal in commodities or futures so I have no idea, like most people, where the price will go. I do agree that it is too cheap for our own good.
  8. I think it should be kept to a minimum of stops, so the Wellington and Grafton alignment keeps them at a minimum and decently spaced. I have a great fear that there are going to be too many politicans that are going to be appeased with a stop and create a 10hr ride from cleveland to cincy.
  9. I agree LR would be a major improvement to the area. I know I have talked to some Parma residents that sound like they are pleading for a light rail extension. However the land acquisition costs would be pretty high through most of the area I would imagine.
  10. ^I always thought that part had the most potential.
  11. So has the rebuild of the Puritas station been delayed to take this inot account or can most of the prelimianry work be completed while the final decsion on stops is made? It seems like adding stairwells and elevators would be simple enough to connect into the bridge spanning the platform. Just hoping that the station gets updated soon as it really needs it.
  12. I think momentum is swinging in our favor: How confident are you that a high-speed rail line that benefits travelers in Columbus will be developed in the next 10 years? Very confident. 38% Somewhat confident. 30% It’ll never be built. 32%
  13. I think the reason there is such an animosity towards waiting is that htat is what we have been told all along. We know everything takes time, but it is waiting for nothing to happen. Its borderline insane. We keep waiting hoping that the results change. Now that is more in regards to devolpment in cleveland as a whole. As far as E4th, trying to get things on topic ;). I think with as much as has happened here in recent years that the waiting approach is going to be beneficial. This area has come a long way and yes it can go further but I'm pretty sure it wasn't that long ago that there was no referances to doing anyhting on 4th.

Ok so this may sound like pure self promotion, and it is a bit, but you were asking about ways to experiance nature in the area. I'm a member of the Fagowees Ski Club, and while skiing is our main thing in the winter we do a lot of differenct activities during the summer. Such as pack trips, whitewater rafting, Biking - We have weekly rides on the east and west sides. Also do Peddle to the Point, which is a bike ride from cleveland to Cedar Point in Sandusky. Check out our web site www.fagowees.org, obviously more info there. Also, look into other clubs there are more than you think.

Plans underway for new Inner Belt Bridge Posted by Karen Farkas/Plain Dealer Reporter April 20, 2009 11:52AM CLEVELAND — Plans for the new Inner Belt Bridge are underway, even though no federal funds can be spent to acquire land until later this year, after federal authorities issue a final approval of the entire project. http://blog.cleveland.com/metro/2009/04/inner_belt_bridge.html
  16. I think the fact that the maps that they are using to compare the distances of things in the two cities is the biggest example of their bias.

I know its a PD article but I seem to think that any time I see Mr. Breckenridge's name the article is not laced with opions. He seems to actually do decent reporting. Then again I think he may be kind of new.

I know that I keep the house at 60 degrees during the winter. It's a bit chilly at times but you get used to it. And as it keeps heating costs lower I cant complain about it. All it really requires is to always wear a sweatshirt or hoodie which, as it is winter, you would probably be doing anyway. btw, the reason its at 60 is the wife likes it cold in the winter, I prefer 64 degrees in the winter.
  19. I think that is what seems so daunting, it is a big space of land and we all have this need for it not to be royally screwed up in any way.
  20. As a boater I hoper that they dont make the entire area that abutts to the lake a public park or the like (McCleveland I may be misunderstanding what you were refering to). I think there are many boaters in the area that would love something that you could take your boat to. Currently there is Shooters, and nothing else. having some restaurants and shopping that is easy to access would make the lake that much more fun for the numerous marinas that are in the area. We, the wife's parents actually own the boat, looked at moving the boat to cleveland from sandusky and the major drawback of cleveland is there is nowhere to take the boat. I think if there was an urban shopping/entertainment district that people had the abaility to tie up to it would be a huge success. But this is a boater talking so I am a bit biased.
  21. I think the same thing has been said for the Huntington Building downtown and even the Terminal Tower for the matter (when comparing to modern built office space) So should that make all these buildings (and others built in this era) expendable, because they lack the more modern things like higher ceilings........ Also this is quoted from a Clinic spokesperson ..... Couldnt you also argue that the newer buildings lack the quality construction, craftsmanship and detail that a building from this period is so rich with. I think that is this were a great building or had some significance then there would have been a public outcry to keep it. Seems to me that its possible demolition, at the time the permit was obtained a year ago, was met with crickets. Now tearing this down to replace it with a parking lot is a travesty and I really would expect better from the clinic. Unfortenetly, they own the building, the land, and have the demo rights. If no one voices an opposition to this then they have every right to tear it down. Like was said, dont they need another spaceship building anyway?
  22. Is it really that marvelous of a building "...the building has narrow column bays, low ceilings and would feel dark and cramped if renovated. It would also yield 50 percent less usable space than other Clinic buildings." I agree that tearing it down to put in a parking lot is a waste but it doesn't sound like the building had much use anyway.
  23. Depends where you live entirely. North Royalton has only TWC, MidHts TWC or WOW, I have WOW. My WOW bill comes out to 131ish. But that includes cable, phone, and internet. Within that I have their way too many channels digital service, theres like 150 channels and I don't watch any I really need to change that, Their HD service, and DVR for cable. I have their Advanced Phone service and I think 4MB internet service. Now all of this adds easily another 30-40 to my bill, probably. Depending on what you want you can looks things over on their site. As far a service goes they have always done pretty well, even with crazy cable serivice times. I had a few issues with the HD feed in the past but that was due to me rerouting the cables. Ohh well, they fixed it and Its fine now. Again it really comes down to where you live, i think in the metro area there is TWC, WOW, and COX as the providers. Maybe more but these are the cable providers I know of.
  24. I'm not sure there is a good answer to this beeping. Like you said McCleveland, it is a good idea in theory, but not so sure that practice is holding that theory up. I think the strob light has more potentential and will be less annoying. I think these are on the LRV, not sure as I take the red line from Brookpark to TC. Additionally I have noticed that in and around PS the drivers seem to be using their signals as little as possible when stopped. This has helped eliminate the beeping, but makes one worry that because they no longer have their hazards on if there is a safty risk. But that seems to be the double edged sword of these.
