And it would be a pretty important game as well. The week after would be more World Cup qualifying games so this would be used as a tune up for all those coming out of their club seasons in Europe.

Greater Cleveland RTA News & Discussion
One thing to think of is recommending possible bus transfers that still go downtown. I don't know how much you would want to put into the Commuter Alerts besides the information regarding the outage/delay but the twitter feed may be prefect for this. ie. "In addition to shuttles from the W25th station the 81 Bus will take you to Public Square". Just something else to think about. Overall the Commuter alert worked perfectly for me as I made the choice to drive in that day (not really a time savings as 90 was a nightmare).

Alert: Pure speculation ahead :Alert The "Family Sprotswear Store" on Prospect has a going out of business sale going on. If hey are being forced to move could this mean that the strip of buldings there, for the Goldfish building to hopefully the little parking lot next to Harry Buffalo, are ready to be redone?? Hopefully the Maron's purchased these. I would hate for the casino garage to get even bigger.

^ I thought they had a sign that stated tomorrow on their door. Maybe this is their soft open so that tomorrow the workers are somewhat prepared.

Also, a sort of legal option that the movie industry doesn't like is to convert movies you own (DVD, blu-ray) to a file on your computer. As long as you convert the file to a version that is playable on your iPad you can have them available. It is a time consuming process, but the availability is nice. Here is some more information MPAA doesn't like this as it then is rather simple to then illeagaly share the media. However as you paid for the property (in this case the movie) you should be able to enjoy said property anywhere.

I was just interested that that was your mode of travel. I have a friend whose father hates flying as well, and he lives in Las Vegas. Train trips to Cleveland from Las Vegas make your trip sound easy. TripAdvisor can help somewhat with trying to find some more out of the way things. Also, on every trip I have taken I've done some kind of walking tour, whether with a guide or just self guided, and I found them enjoyable. Obviously the guided ones will have touristy people, but I don't think many bite. You can use the ipad without it being connected to WiFi. That portion is just disabled. The wife recently began flying back and forth from San Diego and has downloaded shows to the ipad and watched them on the plane. Granted a lot of what is done on the ipad would need WiFi to be really useful and neither train from Cleveland has WiFi capabilities.

Cleveland: Local Media News & Discussion
This is an interesting service. Legally questionable, but they do offer a service for those that do not want to go to the pain of installing an antenna (relatively easy) and setting up a PC to record programing (not hard, but not simple either) http://www.cleveland.com/business/index.ssf/2013/01/tv-over-internet_service_comin.html#incart_river TV-over-Internet service coming to Cleveland, company says NEW YORK -- The Barry Diller-backed Internet company that challenged cable and satellite TV services by offering inexpensive live television online plans to expand beyond New York City this spring, including to Cleveland. In the wake of a federal court ruling that tentatively endorsed its legality, Aereo will bring its $8-a-month service to Boston, Chicago, Philadelphia, Washington and 18 other markets in the U.S., as well as to New York's suburbs. For the past year, the service had been limited to New York City residents as the company fine-tuned its technology and awaited guidance on whether its unlicensed use of free, over-the-air broadcasts amounted to a copyright violation.

That thread linked to above was mine, and I may have baited MTS into going off. Sometimes its fun to poke the bear. When we went we were there for 4 days, arrived Friday left Monday, the unlimited pass was def worth it. As you are going to be there for a shorter amount of time I'm not sure. At $29 for an unlimited and $2.25 a ride you would need over 13 rides to save money. Its probably going to be a good idea to at least put together a tentative itinerary in order to see what would make more sense. Also, there are standalone transit maps available (at least there were 3 years ago when we went). These are good to have as there is no cell signal in the subways, underground and what not. Are you taking Amtrak from CLE to NYC? Quite the journey.

Cleveland Guardians Discussion
The Browns Backers is the largest fan club in the world, I don't think any team has a fan base like that. :o) Try googling ans seeing what you come up with. I know the Browns have a network of fans unlike pretty much anything else, but there is no way they have a larger fan base than Man United. Also, googling that makes it seem like the Browns aren't even top 10. Granted fandom is not an easy thing to measure.

Just passed it this morning. They are finally replacing the Westlake style door's that were there with more typical doors. I like this as those stood out like a sore thumb.

Cleveland: Internet Service
We are out in Middleburg and set up much like you (Roku for Media Streaming, Antenna for local channels) and have WOW! for our internet and phone. We only still have the landline as the wife works from home and spends all day on calls when shes not traveling. We have about 15mb for internet and unlimited phone and that comes to just under $100. Getting rid of cable saved us about $60-70 a month. It's not without its challenges but overall I think its worth it.

The Richardson TD was a perfect example of what this can cause. The T-Rich got the ball, I saw the Oakland DE right there poised to make the tackle. But Travis Benjamin was racing across the line on a fake reverse that completely froze him. Once that happened T-Rich just walked right in. The Absolute right play call at the moment, never something I thought I'd say about Shurmer. Also, Weeden got that first down on that final drive. Unbelievable spot there.

No way December 1st they are open. I would believe the 15th at earliest. Also it would depend on how much of the staff will be new. If they are going to be brought in from existing stores then they could open much sooner. Actually I think they will need to for the first month or so, there may be a 1 hr wait for a burrito on their grand opening.

Greater Cleveland RTA News & Discussion
Is there going to be an overlap of construction projects causing the use of shuttle buses? It seems like there might be as the Airport closure begins in 2 weeks (or so) and lasts six months, so should finish around May or the end of spring. With the S curve reconstruction beginning in "Spring" there seems to be the chance that there would be a double shuttle bus time period on a trip from the Airport to Downtown. Sounds terrible, but the reduced speed that has been imposed on the S curve is really frustrating.

Cleveland: Port Authority News & Info
Why does additional funding need to come from tax increases? Why can't the port secure private investment or federal grants? I was wondering the same thing. Even though I voted for the levy (as an absentee). I know they have already been applying/exploring federal funding, they are both very favorable to recieve at least partial federal funding as well as other means, therefore they may have been asking for too much/putting too much of a burden on the taxpayer for these particular projects. I know the detractors were really focusing on the fact that it was a 400% increase in taxes. Yes it was from $5 for every $100,000 to $20 for every $100,000. Not exactly an enormous amount of money that they were asking for, but I do agree that there was a lack of education by the Port and Business Community. There were a few radio ads I heard but it seemed to get lost under the larger increase for CMSD. I also think that by putting on a Presidential Election they put it at a bit of a disadvantage. Just look at all of the 'burbs school levys that failed as well. This increased turnout among those that would have been against a levy for Santa Claus.

Cleveland Rapid Rail Construction Projects (Non-Service Issues)
I agree with this completely, and actually think that it might be beneficial for RTA to supplement their Airport service with bus service as well. Currently the only option is the Red Line, obviously it is better than nothing but I would have thought there would have been 1 bus line that goes to the airport. I guess the issue would be that you would want to differentiate the bus service from that of the Red Line, and besides Downtown I'm not sure where else they would go from there. I totally disagree. Many if not most people who ride rail simply will not ride city buses, so if there is a downtown bus route substitute, most will simply turn to cabs and airport limos. Buses and trains are not interchangeable. If they were, forward-thinking cities like Cleveland, Chicago, Philly and San Fran would not have spent the 10s and hundreds of $Millions to extend/build rapid rail lines to their international airports. Therefore a bus all the way downtown, either to supplement or replace the short (about 8 tenths/mile) closed section from Hopkins to Brookpark, would be a complete waste of money. RTA's plan to shuttle passengers to coordinate with Brookpark trains makes much more sense. After all, airport passengers are used to/open to short shuttle rides. LA and Boston use permanent airport bus shuttles to their rapid rail lines. Air travelers here, and elsewhere, ride shuttles to satellite parking, Rental car terminals and other services -- in fact, Cleveland's rental car terminal is significantly further from Hopkins air terminal than the .8/mile to Brookpark. So RTA has this one right. ... btw Jerry, nice to know the 15-min Red Line intervals will return in December (after this + the return of daily Waterfront Line service in March may cause me to break out the champagne!). I actually wasn't arguing for the airport service to go directly downtown. I think it would be nice to have a bus route that does support the airport, however if it's not going downtown (or University Circle since we have the rapid covers both) I really have no idea where the service would go. Therefore no service is needed, although I would love to hear possible ideas. I am actually going to have a decision to make come March as I was planning on taking the Rapid from work to the Airport of a trip to Vegas. May be using some of the wife's free parking days at Park Place instead.

Not sure when but it appears that RTA updated their system maps. I think it is great improvement over what was there and makes them much easier to understand.

Cleveland Cavs Discussion
If Tristan doesn't show any improvement then that was a colossal miss on a top 5 draft pick. Those picks shouldn't come around that often and when they do you have to make them count. Missing there will basically waste what is left of Andy's value to the team.

Cleveland Browns Discussion
^ However I will say that these close wins are what build the character to win when things start to go wrong. The Browns had the one early drive where they scored and then everything basically went wrong offensively. Now they can draw on this as they won a really really ugly game. At least that's what winners are able to do, find strength instead of hanging their head.

Cleveland: Restaurant News & Info
That is where Mirch Masala was supposed to go, but would not surprise me if it became a Subway. Especially seen as that spot always had some restaurant "coming soon". Also, that would explain why it appears there is finally construction happening there. now thats a damn shame if its a subway sub shop because the chinese/indian 'mirch' mixup is one of the best cuisines ever, especially if you like spicy foods. google mirch and check out the menu of anyplace that comes up -- it will make you hungry instantly! so if no go there hopefully it opens somewhere else downtown. Subway may not be taking the Mirch Masala spot. There are two storefronts in the 2013 Ontario building and both had lights on this morning with the standard redevelopment paper up on the windows. Would not surprise me either way, but hopefully something happens as that spot has been empty for almost 2 years I think now.

Small Town & City Decline in Ohio
That strip of sand in Sandusky is accessible by boat, and only by boat. I'm not sure of the legal property status, but you can't access it by foot. So while the spit of land further north is private, that section is widely used throughout the summer months by boaters in Sandusky Harbor. Sometimes the beach and area around it is packed with boats and people. Really can be a fun place to go to. Also, for anyone who does decide to boat over there. The sand is constantly shifting and you will go from 5 ft to 2 ft to 4 ft of water really quickly!! So be careful, from someone who has beached a boat there. As an example of a Lighthouse that has public access, the Marblehead Lighthouse always has visitors and is pretty cool to visit. Good views of Cedar Point and Kelley's Island too.

Cleveland: Downtown Office Buildings Updates
It looks like work has begun on transforming the former KeyBank Center at E 9th and Superior for AmTrust. I can see the work on the top three floors being done from my office, not sure if they have started on the rest yet. According to this article they will be redoing 12 of the floors on the building. Really good news as that means the 700-800 additional employees are that much closer to working down here. http://ibmag.com/Main/Archive/2012_Team_NEO_Business_Expansion_More_than_300_emp_12177.aspx
