  1. It looks like they knocked out some columns to make the windows bigger in the 60's. I wonder if they'll recreate them.
  2. This is an old image. I saw this before they decided on a final location for the medical mart.
  3. I don't think you have to add the Marine Week disclaimer. Just another event downtown that's bringing in people. There will be lots of similar things all year so I don't think we need to say, "Yes, it was busy downtown, but that's because there was an Indians games." Or, "Yes, is was busy downtown, but that's because of the farmer's market." You're right, if there were no events, and no open stores or restaurants and no one lived downtown, it would be pretty vacant. :)
  4. They're interested. It's just making the numbers work.
  5. They also put a bench on the sidewalk next to the main entrance of Euclid. Not a major thing, but people sitting there on their lunch break gives more life to the street.
  6. Unfortunately, south of the new Flats East Bank project there are still buildings that come up to the river. They need to figure out what to do with the boardwalk when it hits that spot. If they can, the boardwalk has the potential to run along the river all the way to the Center Street swing bridge and future tow path connections at the new Canal Basin Park. Then people could cross that bridge and utilize future connections to Whiskey Island. Has the potential to be pretty cool.
  7. But it's like that downtown due to necessity caused by limited space, not aesthetics. You have more flexibility with Flats East Bank.
  8. I can't find any info on the dscdo.org website. You'd think they'd want to promote it there...
  9. For those craving more fast food, a Potbelly's sandwich shop is opening in a "marquee space" at East 6th and Euclid at the ground floor of the 515 parking garage.
  10. I remember hearing the owner/president of Ferchill (John?) give a talk to the ambassador group of the Downtown Cleveland Alliance a few years back. It sounded like he had a real chip on his shoulder for the way things are handled here in Cleveland politically when it comes to development, which is why he hasn't done anything here for a while. Odd selection for a speaker, I suppose...
  11. I'd like to see the lots on either side of that garage developed while keeping the parking garage in the center intact.
  12. Stores that are next to each other often have similar designs to their signs. And this is just the background. So I wouldn't assume Dredgers is expanding. They could just be prepping the space for the sign of whatever's going in there.
  13. Cleveland is missing a giant toy store?
  14. Some great Dan Gilbert quotes: Speaking about Phase 2: "It is absolutely for sure going to happen. There's zero doubt of that." "We're trying to make sure that this is a two-way casino. It's not just people coming down to the casino. We want people to come to downtown Cleveland, not to say I'm just going to the casino."
  15. Awesome, I can't wait for Dunham to turn it into greenspace that no one will ever go to.
  16. Indian is nice, but I liked that Waterstreet/Sixth City catered to WHD residents for breakfast on weekends.
  17. I'm curious as to why downtown residential rents haven't increased faster. East 4th Street talks about its 300+ waiting list all the time, but shouldn't in theory this number be much less? If you have 300 people willing to rent an apartment on East 4th and you say, "Okay, rent is going up $50/month," some of those 300 people will drop off, but some will say, "Sure, I'll pay that." Then you say, "Ok, but it's another $100/month." Again, some will pass but others will say okay. You keep doing this until there's no waiting list because everyone willing to pay the most gets a place and everyone else says, "No way I'm paying that," and the waiting list dwindles. To me, bragging about a 300+ waiting list is just admitting you don't know how to properly control your inventory.
  18. Yes, but Gateway was not a 24/7/365 development. And, its success depends a lot on how well the Cavs and Indians are doing. Even so, Gateway doesn't disappoint me. You don't know what the downtown environment would have been like without it. Would East 4th Street exist as we know it without Gateway? And would other projects, such as The Residences at 668, have happened without East 4th? Would companies like Rosetta relocate to where they did without East 4th? Would restaurants like Hodge's have come downtown? Etc, etc... Gateway's impact was good as will be the casino's. And we didn't have to use tax dollars to fund it.
  19. I wish the PlayhouseSquare billboard was the same as this one. The casino billboard makes the PS one look... not as good.
  20. I've said it earlier in this thread, but IMO parking will also be ONE of the reasons that Phase II is a long way off. They cannot afford to lose that parking. I don't understand what parking they would lose with Phase 2. Phase 2 is going to include thousands of parking spaces that will be directly attached to the casino that they will own and control. If the casino leases the lot along Superior between West 3rd and West 6th and it doesn't hold up any potential RTA transit center development, I have no problem with it. That development is years off anyway. By the time that is ready to open, Phase 2 will be done. Weston (the Asher family) has said before that they want their lots to be developed, as seen here: http://www.cleveland.com/warehouseguide/index.ssf/2009/03/asher_family_rhode_island_deve.html The casino isn't tearing down buildings for these parking garages and they're not holding up development because they don't even own the lot. I don't think this is panic-worthy.
  21. The Horseshoe Casino gift shop opens tomorrow at 10am. You can buy a t-shirt before you even go in for the first time! Wear it on opening day! :)
  22. You could always play the slots for 30 minutes and park there for FREE! :)
