  1. This post was the first I heard about B Spot. Newsnet5 is calling it "Breaking news" right now: http://www.newsnet5.com/dpp/news/local_news/cleveland_metro/chef-michael-symon-bringing-his-b-spot-restaurant-to-horseshoe-casino-clevelands-food-court I have some good sources :) In their defense, Horseshoe didn't officially announce it until yesterday in a press release. The PD and other media outlets ran the same story. That's fair. I just wanted to make sure you got the credit for posting something here before it was in "mainstream media", mwd711. Please share other tidbits from your sources in the future!
  2. I noticed in this article (and attached video) http://www.newsnet5.com/dpp/news/local_news/cleveland_metro/new-casino-could-attract-more-shopping-and-other-businesses-to-downtown-cleveland that "a hotel will be built at 21 Prospect Ave". What hotel are they referring to?

  4. I don't think casino clientele are more likely to shun public transportation than the rest of the general population. Northeast Ohio is a car lovin' town, thanks to flat farmland that's easy to develop and a state department of transportation that prioritizes highways and exit ramps more than encouraging public transportation. So no matter what you build downtown - a casino, shops, restaurants, offices, residences, an aquarium - Ohioans want cheap/free parking for their cars. I'm not one of those people, but I understand that as a business you have to market to your audience. It's not Gilbert's job to get his customers to love transit (and the casino is plenty accessible by public transit).
  5. Exactly. Dan Gilbert can be expected to make these moves. How are our elected officials responding?
  6. Declaring something a landmark is meaningless unless it's protected from being demolished.
  7. Damn. That guy seems to have a lot of good projects going on. Sucks...
  8. That's interesting because at the West Side Transit Center meeting I went to, we were told the office tower at West 3rd and Superior was being nixed because it added "too much density" to the project. (I know some people on this board were upset about that comment but I took it as "We think that's too much square footage to actually fill and make this a reality" rather than "We don't want that many people in our neighborhood) I think that would be a great spot for consolidated county headquarters. Offices at West 3rd and Superior, residential at West 6th and Superior, transit center on the ground level with retail around the perimeter. Yes, please!
  9. Perhaps. But at least this shows that national chains find value in the area.
  10. They have both.
  11. Any updates on Tomo on West 9th? Last I heard, Joe Cimperman was holding up their liquor license for fear it would become another rowdy bar/club. Seems like like put a lot of money into it to be held up by something like this.
  12. Chinato has a thinner sidewalk and they did it there.
  13. I'm just sad there isn't enough demand for anything but a park for a 2.2 acres site right on the HealthLine and 1.5 miles from downtown Cleveland. (if you consider I-90 the border to downtown)
  14. That will be an automobile drop off site. Valet, buses, etc...
  15. KJP, I love your posts regarding zoning appeals, but I wish you'd provide us laymen with some "What does this mean?" commentary. :)
  16. Yeah, I get that. But it's a farm tractor in the city of Cleveland! Never thought I'd see that! Thanks for the article, cd-c. I believe they use one on the Ohio City Farm behind Riverview on West 25th Street.

Has anyone made comparisons yet to this building and the Jawa Sandcrawler?
  18. It seems to be part of the masterplan indeed: Eventually, PlayhouseSquare would like to see new residential construction, atop historic buildings at East 13th and Euclid and in place of a parking lot across from the Palace Theatre. http://www.cleveland.com/business/index.ssf/2011/12/playhousesquare_to_sell_downto.html Hopefully, with PlayhouseSquare helping out, perhaps they can bringing together some sort of new residential construction financing to build on that lot.
  19. Really? I mean, adding blue panels is one thing, but you can't just keep it in its current state. I mean, it has the manufacturer's name stamped all over it!
  20. I don't know where this was pulled from but the article you link to mentions nothing about the lakefront.
  21. Thanks for the update. I was skeptical of the liquor store as well, but I'd go to the one on West 10th to get my supplies. With that moving to West 6th and looking "upscale" as you describe it, shouldn't be so bad. You're saying it's better than the "Gateway Food Mart" on West 25th, right? :)
  22. Maybe they could put an aquarium in there!
  23. They currently have rentals on the west bank under the shoreway. If that would just be moved to Wendy Park, where there'd be more people, I think it could work.
