Cleveland: The Residences at 668 Euclid Avenue
I know we've discussed the rental statistics on 668 before, but I was at a downtown residents' meeting there yesterday and someone from K&D (which I always mix up with K&G) said of their 236 units, they have 4 left and have 45 people on a waiting list. Average price per square foot is $1.30/month. I also took some pictures, since I know everyone here likes pictures. Just with my iPhone, though. Nothing fancy...

Cleveland: Downtown: Convention Center Atrium & Expansion
And it's the whole county, not just Cleveland. So someone coming from Pittsburgh to visit family in Solon that never set foot in Cleveland would be counted in that 14 million.

Cleveland: University Circle (General): Development and News
The June 14-20 issue of Crain's Cleveland Business say developers will soon be announced for the new hotel project at Euclid Avenue and Cornell Road. Sources say it will be Snavely Development of Chagrin Falls and Concord Hospitality Enterprises of Raleigh, NC. They say architects Braun and Steidel of Akron did the preliminary designs. Chris Ronayne says University Circle Inc is close to selecting a developer but would not say who. It's interesting that a new hotel is being built less than a mile's walk away from MRN's Tudor Arms rehab. University Circle will finally have some good hotel space!

Cleveland: Crime & Safety Discussion
I know. I wasn't talking about doing either of those things. I was speaking of a sober community patrol initiative where all those people are doing is walking the streets, not going into bars.

Cleveland: Crime & Safety Discussion
Remember that concealed carry is legal in Ohio. It's perfectly legal for someone here to get a gun license, buy a gun, and keep it with him while he walks the streets of Tremont. Maybe a group of concerned citizens needs to do this if the police aren't.

Cleveland: Detroit-Shoreway / Gordon Square Arts District: Development News
Kitsch City sold cards and other novelties. Kinda like a Spencers Gifts. duoHome is the furniture place, which has expanded into the old Kitsch City space as well.

Cleveland: Keeping its entertainment districts safe & vibrant
Suite Sixx, Tequila Ranch, Barley House, Barr Flyy, Lust (which had a hot tub on their front sidewalk a couple of weeks ago), Liquid (which also rents hot tubs sometimes), Sin... Some people are concerned that there will be continued growth in unrulely people that want to hang out in these places, get wasted, get loud, start fights and scare away people that want to just have dinner and a couple of drinks. The same thing happened in the Flats, which is why places like Longhorn and Max & Erma's pulled out...

Cleveland: Warehouse District: Development and News
It's going to be run be the same people behind "Lucic's" on the East Bank of the Flats at 1204 Old River Rd. (it used to be Scripts, The Jungle, Kaos, etc...) It will probably be very similar to Anatomy in its vibe... (for better or for worse) The space on West 9th is currently the Lakeland Employment office, so I guess a restaurant/nightclub/lounge will be a step up. Still, I really don't want the Warehouse District to take the same route the Flats took...

Bulldoze a farm? They're not going to terraform the hill. They're going to stop it from slipping more into the river. I think the tomato plants will be fine.

From the request of MyTwoSense... Here's a video I shot and edited showing a day in the life of two downtown Cleveland residents...

Cleveland: Tyler Village
What's at Tyler Village that's open to the public? I don't work there but would really like to check out the space. What should I do? (and sorry about three posts in a row in this thread...)

Cleveland: Tyler Village
Like one on that ugly parking lot at Prospect and East 4th? Mmmmm, urban living... (to be fair, that parking lot is actually one of the better maintained ones and does a better job with lighting than the surrounding city streets)

I think live/work when I think of that area.

Cleveland: Jack Cleveland Casino
They missed the deadline but got the vote in by 3am. To summarize: - There's no wording in the legislation requiring minority hiring requirements. That was part of the hold up. Some people were trying to get that wording in. - It allows for Gilbert to do his "phased in" development. - The "Phase 1" section of the casino should open in the Higbee's building "by next summer" http://www.cleveland.com/open/index.ssf/2010/06/state_lawmakers_miss_midnight.html

So if there won't be gambling in both buildings, why do you need a tunnel to connect them?

Cleveland: Jack Cleveland Casino
Steven Litt had a good article about the problem that tunnels could bring when they were looking at putting the medical mart over there: http://blog.cleveland.com/architecture/2008/08/the_proposal_to_locate_a.html The difference with the casino is that it sounds like the two pieces are both going to be the casino. So the alternative would just be one big casino building. It's not like the tunnel in this example would be sucking away street life, ya know? Now if they were two different casinos, that would be another story...

Favorite quotes from the article: "The $600 million facility will also include large, street-level plazas flanking the entries off Huron, where the public will be able to stroll and enjoy gardens, fountains and views of the Cuyahoga River, even if they never gamble." "The building would rise roughly 60 to 65 feet from the sidewalk along Huron Road, framing a street that now feels one-sided because no development exists on its west side." "The company also wants to make the intersection -- one of the least friendly to pedestrians in the city -- more hospitable to people on foot" Throughout this project, Gilbert has pushed integration with downtown and everything I've read makes me believe it. I think this will be an impressive addition to the city.

Perhaps they could shine lights up onto it, so that it would at least look cool at night. Lights shining upward could play well off the texture of the brick. My brother works at Wyse and went to some sort of preview night at Zinc last night. Said it was pretty nice and that they should open in two weeks.

The footprint of that space under the LeBron banner is pretty small compared to the parking lot area by the river. I can't see them fitting much it there. Plus, it would block off a bunch of windows... The two pieces being connected by tunnels sounds like the old Medical Mart plan - put the Med Mart in the Higbee's building and the convention center at the corner of Ontario and Huron. That plan also called for gutting Tower City Cinemas...

So what is the history of the Doan Electric building? It housed offices for an old electric company? When was it built and what have some of its other uses been?
