Cleveland: Downtown: Progressive Field
Why aren't any of the people held responsible for the worst example of rendered designs to actual build? The two are not even close to what was billed. As for the Key Bank signage on the light posts it appears the planning commission agreed with lowering the sign but appears that did not happen. Interested in why it wasn't Here was the initial presentation to the planning commission and what the final outcome placement is. http://planning.city.cleveland.oh.us/designreview/drcagenda/2015/01092015/index.php Downtown/Flats Design Review Case Report PROGRESSIVE FIELD LIGHT TOWER "KEY BANK" SIGNAGE Back Return to Case List | Start Over | Print Report (PDF format) Project Information Downtown/Flats Case # DF 2014-123 Address: 2401 Ontario Street Company: Brilliant Electric Sign Co. Architect: Description: "Key Bank" lettering and logo to be mounted on a fabricated steel structure which will be mounted on the existing light towers on the first base side of the ballpark. Notes: -Original proposal was reviewed by staff, with comments and recomendations -Second proposal was then presented to staff again, and was agreed upon. Committee Actions/Submissions Date: December 23, 2014 Committee: Staff Action Type: Initial Plan Submission Conditions/Notes: Date: January 8, 2015 Committee: Local Design Review Committee Action Type: Approved Conditions: Suggestion: Lowering the proposed sign slightly from the proposed position on the light tower. Date: January 9, 2015 Committee: City Planning Commission Action Type: Approved Conditions: . I also contacted The Indians organization and asked why the upper terraces did not have open railings as the renderings showed to lessen the "shipping container" outcome . I was told the following response " Thank you for your email regarding the ongoing renovations to Progressive Field. I apologize that you are displeased with the way the Group Terraces in right field are looking. Those areas are being designed to accommodate group outings, and the railings are there for safety reasons. In terms of the color, right now they are still unfinished and we are optimistic they will be painted by Opening Day. We always strive to give the best possible experience to our fans and we hope these group areas will improve both the look of the park, and the enjoyment our fans have. Again we apologize that you are displeased with the progress so far. Please consider the finished product, and we feel confident the changes will be a good thing moving forward for both the Club and our fans." I wrote back again asking how the railings were designed to be enclosed are safer than an open metal rail that meets codes since that was what was presented originally. No response and i sill would love to know how they are ADA compliant. Unless you are standing directly next to the closed railings I do not know how one sees the game below. Has anyone the designed these areas taken this into consideration? I included a closeup of the terrace boxes that looks even more like a shipping container.

I believe this was originally planned for the same spot that Toby Keith's is now being built.

Cleveland: Public Square Redesign
They should revisit the traffic studies now that Public Square is completely closed. The video shows that traffic is flowing just fine now that everyone is used to it. Anyway for the Group Plan to adjust the design to allow the united quadrants

Cleveland: Downtown: Euclid & 9th Tower / Schofield Building Redevelopment
http://www.clevelandconstruction.com/experience/detail/schofield-building-kimpton-hotel Cleveland Construction's website contains photos of the interior details of the room and bath details. I was surprised it doesn't have a more historic feel to the rooms but I do think the building is still a gem.

Cleveland: Public Square Redesign
I contacted LAND-Studio to ask what the final design for the cafe will be. Their response is that it isn't completely designed yet.

All of this seems lackluster. Why the donor bricks couldn't have been integrated back into Gate C appears odd. The whole plaza seems ordinary

Cleveland: Downtown: Hilton Cleveland
The nitpick is what was presented is not what is being told. When a rendering shows certain details that the public were shown to be factual we have every right to question the changes. When I render and the details do not match I am questioned. So should the design build team.

It concerns me how many details were altered from the architectural renderings to the actual execution. I am fine with adjustments but none appear for the better.

Cleveland: Lakefront Development and News
The poor lakefront planning Cleveland went through is a tough one to rectify. What gets me is that all that land is man made. The park systems that lined Marginal Road once sloped directly to Lake Erie. Yes the freeway was poorly placed but I believe development is the major culprit. One of those developments was The Terminal Tower. If the The Van Sweringen Brothers hadn't gone against the original plan for a grand train station at the northern end of the malls we would have had a direct connection that crossed the railroad tracks below to the lake. Instead The Terminal Tower caused more wasted land along the lakefront when that site was excavated. The freeway probably could have been rethought and still could along the same concept of slowed down 45 highway similar to Chicago. Until the barrier of the highway is truly recognized as a problem and the closure of Burke many of these ideas are bandaids. So i pose the question. If you had a completely blank slate how would you redesign the lakefront of Cleveland?

I love those lamp posts. I never will understand why they were removed

I figure out what has been bothering me. The terraced picnic areas have a solid 3 foot rail that makes each terrace appear 3 foot higher. If those were adjusted to open glass rails or metal they would definitely appear less imposing. Along with that I do not know how people seated can see the game over this feature. I have included a photo showing the areas that should be open railings and a section showing the terraces if they were painted green. I have left off any graphics to he front of the areas just for clarity. Also how are any of those terraces ADA accessible ?

Cleveland: Downtown: Progressive Field
The design is better with the green. The off-white color looks like cheap cardboard boxes covering seats

Cleveland: Downtown: Progressive Field
Horrible execution. Even if the area was paint it's original color the final design is nothing close to what was rendered. It definitely looks as an add on rather than a cohesive integration.

Darn. Can you explain how the terminus is better? IMO the terminus no longer dumps you onto an arbitrary point along the street that makes no connection to either the RRHOF or GLSC. Now the circular path has a landing with an overlook of the North Coast Harbor as well as 2 staircases that you may take either in the direction of the RRHOF or GLSC. The ramp down leads in the direction of FirstEnergy Stadium.. That is what I meant by much improved

Cleveland: Public Square Redesign
I would be interested to see a study showing the ultimate impact Public Square has now that it is one complete square without any traffic flow. Is it possible to make a call 6 months into the project that the square can remain without any traffic cut through? I wonder if LAND Studio can set up an earthcam to document the project. I know I appreciate Turner for providing one of the convention hotel construction.

Cleveland: Downtown: Hilton Cleveland
While the room design appears to be going through revisions a couple of notes I have. 1. The blue is a much calmer aesthetic. 2. The curved shape counter fights all architectural choices for the hotel design. Everything has to to do with hard edges or triangular shapes. Even the use of a bridge underbelly as an artistic wallpaper 3. The contemporary feel is clean just not unique. Most has to do with The Hilton brand. As for the hotel architecture. 1. Architectural details that were detailed in the renderings have definitely been altered for budget concerns. It appears the cornice along The Lakeside facade was eliminated as well as the setback for an outdoor overlook. I am disappointed these changes occurred since the cornice/roof overhang defined the height of the existing Group Plan buildings.

The terminus is much improved. I wish there is a better choice than chain link as a protective barrier
-
Cleveland: Flats East Bank
It appears the boardwalk is making a nice progression as seen in those photos .

Does anyone know if the overhang has been eliminated as well? I would assume the public would have been informed of all the changes in the designs. Odd design changes.

Cleveland Browns Discussion
The updated Dawg Pound graphic feels juvenile. To me less is more. Take away the ears and the mouth and add the helmet stripe above the eyes and you get a different feel. Just my thought.

Cleveland Browns Discussion
I can't believe they bothered with any press release. This by no means should have ever been hyped for a color variation in orange. Btw it is the same pantone color as The Cincinnati Bengals! So original to the vibrancy of Cleveland. The owners should show the citizens the research that went into this design. The Dawg Pound needs to be retired. The latest rendering of a dog looks juvenile.

I played around with the renderings and added a condo lobby to the tall tower. I felt breaking up the detail gives another opportunity for programming. I would love to see a restaurant such as Top of The Town which would interact nicely with Progressive Field.

Honoring the legacy left by previous owners why not name the bar "The Jake". If it weren't for The Jacobs we wouldn't have this ballpark.
