Cleveland: Flats East Bank
I had noticed the fabric was not holding up very well. it seemed to be sagging. They probably are trying to tighten the material.

Kudos to The Uptown development. Phase 2 already means success. Cleveland is on a roll

Cleveland: Downtown: Convention Center Atrium & Expansion
My concept of rotating Cleveland Browns Stadium redesigned with open ends incorporates the original plan which I believe would bridge the gap between the lakefront and the malls. Think of all the connected activity on The Malls during game days. None of my plan involves destroying the look of the malls The view from the convention ballroom would be one end of the stadium. The stadium field should be opened to the public in the off season since the citizens of the county helped to pay for the design.Again activating the malls. The malls continuation to the lakefront would be another flat area for Clevelanders to enjoy.

Cleveland: Lakefront Development and News
I have always envisioned the Browns Stadium moved to follow the Mall grid . An open ended stadium raised to have the freeway and the tracks under the field. the northern end would then connect directly to the North Coast Harbor. Hence freeing the old stadium location for redevelopment/residential. The stadium could follow the neoclassical architecture of the original burnham plan ( think soldiers stadium in chicago) I think of the malls filled on game days filled with activity. Also activating the City's center heart with sports and medicine as its heart and soul. the second image is my dream for future longterm. the lakefront should be for the citizens of Cleveland

Cleveland: Downtown: Convention Center Atrium & Expansion
What has always disturbed me about The Group Plan and the New Medical Mart and Convention Center is that it wasn't architecturally locked in to the classic architectural style. As much as the Medical Mart wants to maintain a height level it by no means has any other similarities to its surrounding historic presence. One other flaw is the placement of the Cleveland Browns Stadium. If only they had changed the access to North and South and had placed the feel of an open air stadium which could have continued the playing field as an addition to the mall, even working in the original train station design at the northern end. A magnificent opportunity to create a use of Cleveland's sports as facility which could have tied our love of sports into the front yard of Cleveland and bridged our connection to the Lakefront.

Thanks for sharing your photographs. I am amazed how fast the transformation is happening, I believe this is one of the best documented building projects in Cleveland's history.

It appears on the official website webcam that the trees are being planted along the promenades.

Love the lighting! I cannot wait for the entire project to be finished. I must say I am pleasantly surprised at the development.

Cleveland: Downtown: Convention Center Atrium & Expansion
The "bleachers" are purely a decorative/functional solution to the egress stairwells from the convention floors. The idea is for people to use them as they wish for people watching..lunching..conversing. I look forward to the trees being planted. The only disappointments for me are the placement of the mechanical/electrical boxes and the lampposts along the promenades. This should have been thought out for a less intrusive location. That ugly grey box will always be an ugly grey box. The photos by MRCLIFTON shows this. The lampposts chosen seem out of scale with the historic buildings of The Group Plan. I wish they would have kept the historically named Euclid Ave. Lamppost. These are still near City Hall and The Courthouse.

Asbestos has to be removed for demolition, too. If anyone tells you a building was demolished because of asbestos, they are lying or don't know what they're talking about. I didn't say that was the only factor. Just one of the many factors which have been mentioned above.

Cleveland: Cleveland State University: Development and News
I have heard a big cost factor was the asbestos removal. It was cheaper to build Euclid Commons to replace this facility .

Cleveland: Random Development and News
Not where I should post this article which appears in architectural record. It is a feature on New Life for the American City and Cleveland has been featured. It shows many photos of the developments which have been recognized as transformational. The only odd piece is the initial photograph of downtown in the introduction by Steven Litt. The photograph depicts Downtown prior to Key Tower and The Gateway complex. You think they could have found a more up to date photograph. It must date at least 20 years. Enjoy. http://archrecord.construction.com/features/2012/American-City/Cleveland/Cleveland-Ohio.asp

Cleveland: Downtown: Convention Center Atrium & Expansion
I wonder why the small banding strips were changed to black. In all the other renderings and notes (see group plan commission renderings on cleveland city planning website) they were metallic silver. It would have been a better choice as this also would have reflected the every changing sky.

How does the finished plaza look? Since the webcam has been taken away I no longer get to see daily updates. Being in Los Angeles is frustrating to see the progress. Any pics would be greatly appreciated.
