Cleveland: Downtown: Convention Center Atrium & Expansion
I dont mind the panels. Here is a photo from the architects website with a full scale mockup they tested . The only difference is the panels seem to be more grey than the sample. I reserve judgement once the panels are grouped together to see how successful the plan will be. http://lmnts.lmnarchitects.com/fabrication/mm-fabrication/

Now, almost four years later, it looks like the last of our competition could be circling the drain.

Thank you ClevelandOhio. This is great news that city officials are listening and understand how wrong this development project has been thought out

Cleveland: Demolition Watch
True. But I do believe if The Maloofs had sold their share in The Stanley Block Building to Dan Gilbert the argument can be made that The Columbia could have been saved and the parking structure designed around The Columbia. The argument was made from the developers there was no way to save The Columbia with the footprint of The Stanley Block as a hurdle.

Cleveland: Downtown: May Company Building
Being out of state, is the current May Company parking structure still in use. If so I believe the developer owns this along with the department store building. Is there a reason that this much parking is necessary?

Cleveland: Demolition Watch
This really comes as no surprise. However it irks me that The Columbia Bldg was razed to save The Stanley Block Building and now we are told this has to go as well. The Columbia Bldg should have been saved and The Casino Welcome Center structure reworked within the footprint of The Stanley Block removed. The Columbia Bldg could have been a boutique hotel or housing. Shame on The City, the owners/and the developers.

Cleveland: Downtown: Convention Center Atrium & Expansion
I agree.I prefer a tunnel over a skywalk. Why are so many people afraid of some weather? Literally walk across the street and into The Public Auditorium doors. If this is allowed would The Marriott request a skywalk as well as The Cleveland Public Schools Headquarters if converted into a hotel? Again if these types of developments require this how does any of this promote tourism to our City?

Cleveland: Downtown: May Company Building
That article is not what is planned for The May Company Building. If it were I might be more open to the plan. Instead the developers are planning to make at least 4 stories of the structure into parking front to back. And again nobody is asking why they are building an additional parking structure next to 2 existing ones. The existing May Company structure is not planned to come down. The storefronts in that space are being renovated for The Tilted Kilt. How many historic buildings do we need to lose for the purpose of parking.

A slight off topic question. Are The Planning Commission members appointed or elected? Thanks and then back on topic

Cleveland: Downtown: May Company Building
I am interested to hear the reason for this conversion. Let me see why there are additional needs for parking options in this area! The Planning Commission's record of allowing developers to destroy our downtown must stop!.

Cleveland: Downtown: May Company Building
I do not understand why the existing May Company parking structure does not suffice for the students of Tri-C to attend the culinary school. I just find there is an over abundance of space being converted to parking structures as development.

This makes me sad. I saw this on the agenda for Feb 17th at the Cleveland Planning Commission website to convert The May Company building into a parking structure! How many parking structures are needed! http://planning.city.cleveland.oh.us/designreview/drcagenda/2012/02172012/index.php.

Kimpton Plans to Rock Cleveland CLEVELAND http://www.meetingsfocus.com/Magazines/ArticleDetails/tabid/136/RegionID/238/ArticleID/17516/Default.aspx#top Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants has announced its plans to enter the Cleveland, Ohio market with the management of a 161-room hotel. Housed in an historic, adaptive reuse downtown building, the hotel is slated to open in early 2013. The boutique-style hotel will sit in the city’s landmark Schofield Building, which was built in 1902 and served as a prominent office building for more than 100 years. The new Kimpton will feature more than 7,400 square feet of meeting and event space, including a ballroom and outdoor roof terrace. It also will offer a chef-driven destination restaurant and--as part of a mixed-use development--there will be retail offerings on the building’s ground floor. “For us, it’s especially exciting to see the demand for the boutique concept in general spreading to more mainstream cities in the Midwest and other areas of the country outside the urban centers of New York, Los Angeles and San Francisco,” said Kimpton CEO Michael Depatie.
