Cleveland: Streetscape Improvements
I am a bit surprised by the lack of maintaining Euclid Ave sidewalks and crosswalks downtown. The new trees that are planted have many broken branches hanging and many different varieties have been planted in no particular order . Storefront windows are filthy with people writing on the dust "wash me" The 2 main culprits are The May Company Building and The PNC Center I would be glad to wash the windows or help but do not know whom to contact. The 2 flame sculptures at both ends of East 4th Street desperately need repairs before the RNC, Cardboard covers broken panels as well as metal straps hanging carelessly The Stephen Manka "chorus line" sculpture along the center median in Playhouse Square has faulty lighting. Lastly, why did PNC remove the kinetic sculpture by George Rickey. I miss it's presence I want Cleveland to shine and hope these repairs can be addressed. I am all about maintaining what we have. No reason any of these items should be in their current state.

Re: Progressive Field I noticed that the KeyBank sign was removed from the light towers. Why was this? That was very short lived.

Cleveland: Public Square Redesign
I just spoke with the gentleman inside the SSM and he stated that the county is responsible for the lights fro the lamp posts. He said the bulbs are purchased but the county doesn't seem to have any timetable to replace the bulbs. I suggest we all call the county to point out this oversight. I have written numerous times to The Group Plan Commission and Land Studio and neither has ever responded to my inquiries regarding this issue. One other observation. The temporary performance tent/stage was poorly thought out. The overall design of the park is excellent but then we have this afterthought. Music is planned for almost all of July A permanently designed structure would have been a thoughtful element rather than what is there now.

Cleveland: Downtown: Mall Development and News
I took a walk to Mall C today and was able to see Stacy Levy's Sky Blossoms installation. I was pleased to see the large blue steel planters had been eliminated from the design. They are colorful but very little interaction around them and very little movement on a breezy day.

As nice as the splash fountain is there is a major drainage design flaw. The outer ring with the jets cannot drain fast enough to hold the fountains designated shape. I am surprised this wasn't tested further before the granite pavers were all put in place. I was surprised the take out window proposed on the cafe has been replaced by a window with no service. That was odd now that all food must be ordered inside to take outdoors. Overall Public Square is much improved and I look forward to how it is used and maintained from this point on. Everyone should see it in person

Public Square isn't going to be officially re-opened until June 30. Not sure what that has to do with what i was asking. i already knew the official re-opening date.

Does anyone know where the historic cannon that was to be placed near Soldiers and Sailors Monument was placed?Initial plans had it between the two vertical trees north of the monument. Also, has anyone else noticed that half of the lamp posts surrounding the monument are not working and haven't for some time. The night shots of Public Square from Tower City's webcam are quite nice. When there is a slight breeze the lighting sparkles. The staining of the concrete from the installed wooden benches looks like nothing has been done to correct the issue. I hope the staining can be removed. Maintenance of this new design should be important. Does anyone know if the proposed "Cracking Art" animals are still to be part of Public Square or was that removed as a location?

Couldn't the extra minute be adjusted if the lights were timed appropriately around the square as opposed to cutting through the park. I believe as much time to load passengers on and off cutting through the park equals the same amount of time to go around .

Even as the barriers come down, there’s still one more piece to the puzzle that remains to be put into place: the opening of Rebol, a café at the southern edge of the square.

3231,Was this the planned art you had knowledge of for the backside of the cafe? I am disappointed that it is nothing more than an advertisement billboard rather than a curated public art installation. Art was the concept given to the planning commission and the public for that space. Did Land Studio approve this since they supposedly are in charge of what goes on that wall? I do not think any advertisement should be allowed to placed onto that wall even if it is a slogan for Public Square. Regarding The Soldiers and Sailors Monument: Half of the vintage acorn style lamp posts are not working around the monument. It is odd that these haven't been fixed since it appears all the lighting is complete. I too wish the shaft of the monument was lit more like the proposed rendering. I just wish at this point somebody would give an actual date the park will reopen. Tptb have not been very open with information. It is hard to see what is left to be done except the build out inside the cafe space and removal of the fencing/barricades. Lastly I came across this great photo set taken by Behance of the updated Public Square https://www.behance.net/gallery/38390953/Cleveland-Public-Square-photographs

With the Cavs victorious and the parade scheduled for Wednesday it sure would be nice if TPTB decided that day would be the opening of Public Square for the celebration.

Pointing out a story posted by local news is not being negative or hysterics. It is a personal observation by someone (no me) with a camera whom noticed something that appeared to be causing a finish problem. That by no means is saying anything as a complaint the project is a failure. People are allowed to make their observations known positive as well as negative. I look forward to see how well Public Square will be maintained. I am excited to see the finished project.

A video shows staining already appearing on the concrete. I don't think it is rust but not a good up close first impression http://www.newsnet5.com/news/rust-already-in-public-square-renovations-executive-director-responds CLEVELAND - There are questions being raised about the new Public Square project in downtown Cleveland and the quality of work being done. We received an anonymous tip about possible rusting already happening, so we went digging for answers. The director of the project said it's not true but we wanted to show you the video we obtained that outlines the concern. The Public Square renovation is a $50 million project that's been months in the making. Everything is being redone to make it a brand new, inviting area for people to enjoy. The tip said that there's rusting happening around the benches on the east side of the project. The video we obtained shows line after line of stains on the base of the benches. There are so many lines right where the metal portion of the benches attach to the wood. We asked Jeremy Paris, who is the Executive Director of the Group Plan Commission that oversees the renovation, to go on camera and explain what the stains are. He sent us this statement: “As we undertake the final stages in the transformation of Public Square in partnership with the City of Cleveland, the Group Plan Commission is focused on ensuring that the quality of the work and materials on the project are protected not just now, but for years to come. The benches installed on pre-cast concrete in Public Square have been treated with a material to protect and seal the wood. This is an essential part of ensuring its long-term durability. As part of a managed process, after the wood is treated, some of the material will temporarily bleed onto the concrete. The concrete will be cleaned throughout the process. We are completing this procedure as one of the final stages of construction before Public Square opens to Clevelanders.”

They have also been very vague on whom the operator of the cafe is and what public art is being applied to the back side of the cafe.

I don't believe there was any police mini station planned for Public Square. The only structure is the cafe.

Those bus shelters are way out of scale! :( Other note. It appears they are sitting in the road.

i am also surprised no shelter from the elements if waiting for a bus along Superior

Yes they were, most likely for the letters in the sign to anchor to. Otherwise they'd have to drill into the facade of the actual Higbees building and THAT would be permanent damage. The SIGN was unnecessary for that location hence no reason ever to have removed those windows . I also believe the raised walkway was should never have been approved. Now that Dan Gilbert owns The Avenue direct access parking to Jack Casino is provided.

The fountain testing has been interesting. It appears the water doesn't stay within the designed oval shape and appears to overflow onto the rest of the pavement area. I also noticed the wooden bench seating has been installed

The cinderblocks may be temporary but were no reason necessary.
