Greater Cleveland RTA News & Discussion
This could be part of a systemwide strategy. Review and identify long-standing routes with the population density and other factors suitable for BRT Uprgrade identified bus routes to BRT (and acquire properties along the route from the land bank for TOD, work with city/county to incentivize density along BRT routes) Review and identify BRT routes suitable for upgrade to rail/tram service Upgrade identified BRT routes Rinse and repeat. With the completion of east side projects along Cedar (Ascent/Top of the Hill at Cedar-Fairmount; Lee-Meadowbrook-Cedar project, Taylor Tudors and UH Taylor road development just north of Cedar, University Square renovation (housing between Target and Macy's), and on to Legacy Village and Beachwood Mall) I'd like to see planning begin for a BRT line between Cedar-University station and Beachwood Mall. Planning could begin now, with construction to start after many of these projects near completion and funding is found.

Greater Cleveland RTA News & Discussion
It takes money and hard work to deal with the homeless, but it can be done. Provide housing. Provide services. Show up, follow up. It's not easy or cheap, but it's been done. Sadly, it's easier and cheaper to let them live on the street, arrest them when they get aggressive, otherwise -- out of sight, out of mind.

He's definitely collecting signatures to run again, and there is a vocal contingent that is now encouraging it and saying that he's been treated unfairly. I can personally attest that he has blocked (mostly by failing to act on requests) development in the city. I had high hopes at his election, but can no longer support him.

She has been a supporter of rail, but I don't know that the extension of CVSR has gotten much attention from anyone.

Yes, CH is losing population (more slowly now than previously) and there are a lot of struggles both with the new form of government and the personalities involved at the moment. Hoping it stabilizes soon (although I'm expecting the economy to crater later this year, unfortunately). As for Severance, its revitalization is more dependent on the actions of the do-nothing owner -- national retail slumlord, Namdar -- than it is on city government.

Cleveland Area TOD Discussion
Are hurricane-resistant buildings as expensive as earthquake-resistant buildings? Either way, the taller you go, the more expensive the engineering and materials.

That green space is actually two lots, both owned by the city. Volpe wants the city to sell them to him for development. I don't see this as being a high priority for the city, and with resident push-back and chaos in city hall it's not going to get their attention. Seems unlikely that this will happen, and Volpe will say that the city is anti-development.

Suburban Cleveland: Development and News
Despite the reference to walking paths, this picture says something about welcoming pedestrians. Front and center -- parking, and some plantings blocking the viewer from walking directly from this position to the building, hinting that "this is a place for cars, not pedestrians. You should drive to this place, not walk to it."
