  1. I've seen some stories recently about how polling/household surveys just aren't getting good data any more. Here's one (paywall) https://www.wsj.com/us-news/data-quality-is-getting-worse-when-we-might-need-the-numbers-most-749bd63d Fewer landline phones, the proliferation of spam telemarketers means that many people won't answer calls from numbers they don't know, and a lot of other factors are at play. I suspect that this is a problem with the economic data as well. If we can't get good data we'll make more bad decisions.
  2. Let's arm the kindergartners and train them in the shoot houses, too!
  3. 100%. The hotels, restaurants, and bars in downtown Cleveland are already built and if the Haslams build the stadium in Brook Park we're going to see hotels/restaurants/bars (and maybe another highway exit) built there to serve teams, out-of-town fans, and the airport. I have no doubt that that will hurt the downtown businesses. Maybe not enough to close them down, but it will hurt. People generally are not going to tailgate in Brook Park and then travel into the downtown if there are hotels/bars/restaurants nearby. I'd be fine with moving the stadium off the lake, and I think it's hard to tell whether the city actually makes or loses money on the stadium, but moving the stadium to Brook Park is definitely an invitation for more sprawl. We're not growing -- sprawl is just leading us to poverty as we keep increasing our infrastructure maintenance bill. If the Haslams want to move to Brook Park, I will fight against any public funding for the stadium.

We're currently pumping more oil than anyone else in the world, but well productivity declines over time those decline rates are closely guarded secrets. The oil companies may be seeing the writing on the walls and pumping like mad to get value while they still can.
  6. Overdue!
  7. No, let's put all the parking at a Red line station and reserve the space at the airport for other things (extend the Red Line to the I-X center and put the parking there!).
  8. https://www.elevenwarriors.com/ohio-state-basketball/2024/03/146351/former-south-carolina-ohio-state-guard-meechie-johnson-officially-hits-transfer-portal He would add to a crowded backcourt with Bruce Thornton and Roddy Gayle.
  9. Not so silly -- that would be a nice addition to the current car-centered design of the area. (I'd rather see a better Red Line experience, however, than more parking)
  10. Let's also remember that Browns stadium was designed and built in a rush.
  11. For some context, the Ohio education budget for fiscal year (FY) 2023 was $12.7 billion. Ohio has approximately 1.6m K-12 students.
  12. Include this in your complaint https://www.transportation.ohio.gov/working/engineering/roadway/manuals-standards/multimodal/04
  13. Exhibit A, property immediately adjacent Legacy Village shopping: https://www.freshwatercleveland.com/breaking-ground/TRW_Lyndhurst_110923.aspx Apparently, that building did not have such value.
  14. The problem that I foresee is padded seats retaining water.... you won't be able to just wipe them dry like the plastic seats.
  15. That site seems pretty isolated from any other businesses or housing -- it doesn't seem like a great location for development. Nice that the Metroparks purchased it to ensure a buffer to the bike path. I look forward to seeing what plans they might have for the site.
  16. Another article outside a paywall (doesn't answer your questions): https://www.wkyc.com/article/news/local/cuyahoga-county/university-square-university-heights-sale-agreement-reached/95-2705eeac-7257-4d97-9158-19d381f16bfd
  17. If there was a train line into SF this might be a really great project. "If." (I share your concerns about sprawl) On the other hand, SF is really hemmed in by the bay, housing prices are really unaffordable, and there isn't a lot of land to build on. So building density somewhere removed, but with good fast transit, would be the best solution.
  18. NOACA study may lead to more bike lanes downtown https://www.clevescene.com/news/noaca-study-details-dangers-of-downtown-cleveland-streets-paves-way-for-solutions-43905052
  19. Carnegie is a traffic sewer between I-90 and the Clinic. No entrance on Carnegie just reinforces that "thruway" feel. Not exactly pedestrian friendly. They should go ahead and build the sound walls to further isolate this development, eh?
  20. Yes -- Architectural Board of Review (ABR).
  21. Yes. There will be a park at the corner of Meadowbrook and Lee, but a small group of residents wanted the entire site on Lee to be a park. Thanks to @Quilliam -- you can see that the new park space from the building to Meadowbrook is currently used for construction materials. The space in the corner between the wings of the building will be closed off by a fence for residents only; but this will still leave a significant amount of public space. Looking forward to seeing how it turns out. (Should be a great new performance space for the Music Hop in another year!)
  22. I'm surprised that they didn't go for a larger performance space (at least it looks small to me).
  23. I've heard from some department heads at CSU that she's been a HUGE improvement over the last president and they are really happy that CSU was able to retain someone of her caliber. Seems to me that her "dream job" opened up and she had to apply because such opportunities are rare. That one attempt to level up shouldn't be a dealbreaker that prevents her from doing her job. If the senior leadership supports her and her mission, there's no loss of confidence or momentum that would justify the Board going to the (very big) effort to seek a replacement.

It's not the number of lanes, it's the signal timing that controls a road's throughput, according to American-Dutch designer. https://sf.streetsblog.org/2024/03/05/its-not-just-politics-american-dutch-engineer-calls-out-root-problem-with-american-dots
  25. What "recent events" are you referring to? Crime from immigrants, legal and illegal, is far lower than among natural US citizens. https://www.cato.org/blog/new-research-illegal-immigration-crime-0 If you're worried about crime, we still need more immigrants.
