  1. I've been (it's very nice, but expensive), and when I walked by on Thursday it looked like every bay was in use -- around 3pm on a Thursday!
  2. I accidentally hit one of those plastic lane markers over by the Warrensville Circle by John Carroll a few years ago --- and it cracked my side mirror. They do have some give at the base but they seem to be pretty stiff (like one of those skinny whiffle ball bats, but fiberglass -- they're not soft flexible plastic)
  3. https://www.cleveland.com/news/2023/12/icebreaker-wind-project-halted-no-plans-to-resurrect-effort-to-put-wind-turbines-in-lake-erie.html Not surprising, but disappointing nonetheless. Way to be a leader, Cleveland.
  4. I'm glad that that is reducing the time required to update the study, but this is disappointing. :-)
  5. Didn't we already do this? I thought that a route study was done and the returned/refused federal funding in the last go-round was for operation startup. If so, can this new study timeline be sped up by referencing the previous 3C+D study?
  6. I'd suggest adding a concrete barrier periodically -- maybe every 50 feet -- just enough to make swerving into the bike lane just to take out plastic/fiberglass pylons a bit more difficult.
  7. Drone Ohio -- Aerial photos of Severance on Facebook https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=pfbid0iyLqt7hBUp2t3KU1ECDdDNuG5d1DpEFxEs2YBTEtDivRBvjjpsEck7kfMZt4ify6l&id=100044113059848&mibextid=7i0OJ8
  8. What it's like to shop at Grocery Outlet, the 'extreme value' supermarket that's been described as 'the TJMaxx of grocery stores' https://www.businessinsider.com/grocery-outlet-supermarket-2019-5#this-might-be-a-discount-grocer-but-it-still-offers-a-great-selection-of-ready-to-eat-meals-10
  9. Thanks for the great pictures -- looking forward to the full report! 😄
  10. I love fountains, but they are a maintenance nightmare. And Cleveland's weather doesn't help. So like the public restroom -- a very good idea if the funding is there for above-average maintenance.
  11. Anyone who is a friend of Eileen is a friend of mine! Something in between. We have a glut of smaller homes that need major renovation but aren't yet candidates for a teardown. Many are livable, but not very nice. It takes money to maintain a house, and too much money has fled the center city. It would be fiscally smart for society to find a way to better incentivize rehabs or to put more money into the CDCs to do rehabs -- the infrastructure is already there. The cost to renovate to really nice condition isn't justified by the cost, so many will continue to deteriorate and will be teardowns in another decade or two unless something changes.
  12. The process is important.
  13. I'd encourage that behavior if it lets us keep the route, even if it's not directly bringing travelers and their money to Cleveland.
  14. Sounds like a great tour and I would really like to go -- but The Day Job makes it difficult.... working on it.
  15. As disappointing as this loss is, and despite how poorly the Buckeyes played at times, we still kept it very close. One or two plays or calls that went our way could have changed the outcome. I may be in the minority but I'm not ready to give up on Ryan Day just yet. Yes, he's 1-3 against the rival, but two of those losses were away games, and Harbaugh is still only 3-5 vs. OSU. Here's to a very angry Buckeye team romping on New Year's Day to start 2024.
  16. But are they really that sharp -- what will the value of those developments be in 50 years when the infrastructure maintenance bill comes due? And will car-dependent, large lot SFH developments be rehabbed into "next gen" homes for the wealthy or will that style of living have fallen out of favor by then? If I were betting 50 years into the future, the safer bet would seem to be mixed-use developments over single-use developments. But few in 2017 would even have predicted the massive transition to work-from-home that we have today so it is hard to say. Maybe fusion will be feasible, everyone will drive electric cars, and we'll have roadways that remain smooth for 50 years, all of which would enable the SFH development to remain popular.
  17. Times Square is so much more loved now that they've added on-street parking, eh? Or look at the pedestrian areas in almost any old European city or in Asia. Do the cars really enhance the experience? Design for the elderly and the children on foot, then the cyclists, then the buses and mass transit, and last for the cars. Design Places for people. That doesn't mean "no cars, ever" or "no on-street parking" -- it means we make the place for cars in whatever space is left after we meet the other needs. I agree with others here that a bikeway in the median on Superior seems odd (maybe because we still do not have a bike network to connect it to). It might be better on one side of the street with a true tree lawn and trees protecting the cyclists from the car traffic. Wide sidewalk with trees then dual-direction bike lane stepped down from the sidewalk, another row of trees, then parking, then the car lanes and another line of trees on the far side of the street. That's how I'd do it.

The shrinking student-age population is huge, I don't think very many people outside of education understand the scope of this problem. Ohio will likely have to close some state universities. Akron or Cleveland State, Toledo, Wright State, and Youngstown seem to be at the highest risk of closure. Ohio State is the healthiest state school, but it has also opened and expanded quite a few branch campuses since I was a student. Those branch campuses are definitely vacuuming up some of the students who would otherwise have gone to another state school and thereby competing with the "lesser" state schools.
  19. The federal question is still out there -- with the demise of Roe, Republicans could revive enforcement of the Comstock Act. https://www.smithsonianmag.com/history/comstock-act-transform-abortion-debate-180982363/
  20. Here's a view of one of those stations, Union City. Note all the T.O.D.! And here's the other, at Berryessa:

Condolences to our beloved Cleveland Browns -- you tried SO hard to lose that game and here we are celebrating your failure. That's gotta hurt.... 😉
  22. Reclining is only an extra $99.85! (per minute)
  23. I watched/listened to the meeting on Youtube. Council seems willing to give Noble Station an extension to preserve the tax credits, but Noble Station still has to revisit its design. Word is that they are hosting neighborhood meetings and are trying to adopt some of Paul Volpe's ideas. All of that seems like a positive. In fact, apparently now they are "partnering" with Paul Volpe. (I've heard that working with Mr. Volpe can be very challenging -- let's hope that doesn't come back to bite them.) Nevertheless, it all seems like good news -- a developer approached the city with a plan, got shot down, and didn't walk away. That's a big win. Still a long way from actually building something and it's unclear how long it will be before we see revised plans. The Taylor Tudor sale is just finalizing the deal made earlier this year with WXZ for their redevelopment. The redevelopment plan has already been approved, now Council needs to approve the development agreement that the city's economic development team hammered out with WXZ. I don't anticipate any problems there but it may depend on what the city agreed to provide financially. And there was also mention of a TIF -- which of course the schools also will have to approve. I would think they would, since redevelopment here will (eventually) increase the tax base. Very excited for this project to get going. I've heard whispers of another big project coming to CH. I know it's not Severance, but that's all. Anyone hear any good rumors?

Then again, they voted for a 6-week abortion ban, and in the wake of calls for gun restrictions following the shooting in Dayton they loosened gun restrictions. Past behavior suggests that they don't really think the voters will punish them for whatever they do -- so I'm not so confident.
