Greater Cleveland RTA News & Discussion
On the Healthline today. It’s ridiculous enough that our transit cops’ racism has killed POP but the driver of the bus I’m on is accepting cash fares info the fare box, rather than making then use the machines, which apparently were working just fine where I boarded (East 2nd), which slows things down further.

Greater Cleveland RTA News & Discussion
Just saw a eastside Red Line shuttle bus unable to board some people at West 117th due to overcrowding. On a game day it's dumbfounding that RTA isn't running extra buses or at least using the articulated buses that don't normally get used on Sundays. I'm headed to the airport to rent a car and I would've driven if I had remembered the shutdown.

Did Public Square reopen to buses since Sunday morning?

Public Square is closed to buses, again...at least as of 12:30-1am this morning.

I noticed that the artics were missing from both the 22 and 26 today. Is RTA not going to use them on Sundays anymore? I took a 26 from Ohio City to Lakewood this afternoon and there was a standing load all the way into Lakewood.

I did get two two-ride fare cards for my trouble, but they expire 8/31, and I'm pretty broke 'til then, so I don't know if I'll have a chance to use them, as I don't use RTA to commute to my job in Elyria.

On a westbound Red Line train that derailed outside Tower City about 30 minutes ago...no injuries, we were going real slow. Waiting to be offloaded.

Greater Cleveland RTA News & Discussion
I hope RTA doesn't pull the artics off the 26 (or 22) early this evening like they normally do. I did see an artic on the 26 at 10:30pm last night so hopefully they'll be kept on both lines all night (if we win).

I got passed up at Adelbert/Euclid around 4:20ish by a westbound Red Line shuttle bus that was nowhere near crowded, despite Adelbert being a shuttle stop today for Parade the Circle (according to RTA).I'm now on a westbound Healthline bus packed to the rafters. Very infuriating.

http://www.cleveland.com/metro/index.ssf/2013/11/cleveland_students_will_walk_l.html#incart_m-rpt-2 This is a about plan to give RTA passes to students in the CMSD six grade and up if they live more than a 1/2 mile from school. The responses from cleveland.bomb posters was predictably drenched in racial/class hatred, of course.

Los Angeles: Transit News
Nice pictures. It's been a long while since I rode the Green Line...1997.

Will probably ride the Expo Line next month on my LA trip to go hang out with a friend who lives in Culver City.

Los Angeles: Transit News
Love the pictures. I used to ride the Blue Line every-so-often when I lived in LA. Haven't ridden the Expo Line yet, but I probably will next month when I visit LA for a few days.

Cleveland-Lakewood: Enhance Clifton Transit Project
Man I hope weekend service (or at the absolute minimum Saturday service) is restored on the 55 as a result of this project (if not sooner).

Governor John Kasich
He didn't single out public transit directly, but the GOP has no reason to save it. It was cut severely even during the Strickland years....it's going to get a LOT worse with Kasich, given the anti-transit feelings of many GOP legislators.
-
Governor John Kasich
I guess with the upcoming gutting of public transit in Ohio..thanks to Kasich.....we'll just have to walk. I'll be surprised if any major urban transit agency in Ohio has anything beyond skeletal service on Sundays when all is said and done.

Greater Cleveland RTA News & Discussion
With Kasich being elected and the GOP capturing the state House...we'll be lucky if there is still RTA service on Sundays after they hack this state's already pathetic funding for public transit.

Greater Cleveland RTA News & Discussion
Just an FYI (this is not posted on the RTA site), due to Warren Rd being closed from 90 north to Detroit for repaving work thru mid-October, the 83 is be rerouted from Warren and 90 along Marginal eastbound to Bunts (and along Lakewood Heights westbound from Bunts to Warren), then along Bunts to Detroit, then along Detroit over to Warren.

I'd hardly call spending $1M or so to connect the existing WFL into business downtown to make it more viable a "pie in the sky" idea, ... but direction to the WFL thread would be worthwhile... ... btw, if you ride a WFL bound Blue/Green Line train into downtown, by the time you get thru the turnstile, up the escalator and out the Terminal Tower door, the train you left is through the Flats and 1 min from E. 9th... The only way you beat it to City Hall/Fed Build/Erieview/North Pt on foot is if you're Usain Bolt. ... btw 2, the E. 9th incline up to Lakeside is no greater (and shorter) to the one down the Rock Hall (and across 2 Shoreway exit/entrances)... Last time I looked, a whole lot of elderly folks walk up/down the stretch easily every day... I think you're reaching. The problem with the WFL (when it's running) is the 30 minute headways...if you don't arrive into Tower City close to departure time..it's indeed faster to walk.

Did anyone ride/observe the 26 this weekend? I saw some buses from afar and none were articulated. I went downtown today but drove to the Triskett Station to take the Rapid (as the 26 is too far of a walk from my house considering last weekend's crush loads and 35-40 minute travel time to Public Square).

Cleveland-Lakewood: Enhance Clifton Transit Project
While it's going to be tough to argue for BRT on Clifton now due to the hacking the 55 is getting, midday weekday ridership is very good on the 55. I've been on more than one bus midday that had a standing load not too far east of West 117th. I've been on numerous buses on Saturday that had close to full seated loads by West Blvd. The 26 does not run artics on the weekends right now. I hope they're brought back on the weekends (at least by Memorial Day weekend). Otherwise, the 26 may end up resembling a sardine can....especially on Saturdays.

Hopefully the Clifton project will restore the soon-to-be-eliminated weekend service on Clifton.

What Mass Transit Systems Have You Ridden?
Railbuff indeed. I was either four or five when I rode a ConRail train (to Yonkers and back to Grand Central)...just once..either in 77 or 78 (moved to LA in Summer 1979). Funny I see Metro-North trains all the time these days when I visit NYC (I seem to be at Grand Central a lot) but I've never had a reason to ride them. The CalTrain in LA ran right behind the houses across the street from me (grew up in Northridge in the San Fernando Valley) Station was a sidewalk, basically..no parking/shelter..only about 1/2 mile away. I was 9/10 when it ran..in 1982 (maybe '83) I think. Metrolink's Ventura County Line (rode it now and then) runs there now on the same track (Amtrak runs there...Coast Starlight/Pacific Surfliner...as well)..Metrolink station is further west (and far more substantial).
